TAU? I havent heard any good things; sorry. I remember when they started (selling cars on t'internet) in Japan; theyve always been expensive, in my opinion, for what theyve been selling (Ive also heard from a number of sources who've all said that TAU buy shrapnel that isnt fit enough to auction, its certainly what it looks like). Anecdotally; when I collected the last vehicle that I imported from Southampton, I saw a Soarer with TAU stickers on it. It wasnt too bad to look at but I had to make an effort not to shout when the 'car dealer'/mug-punter (he had a ****ty 308 beaver tail with his name on the side...) told me what he'd paid for it, well over twice the auction value of a good grade 3.5 - grade 4 car. TAU had told him that it was a grade 3.5 car btw; but that was a 'TAU grade' not a real grade.....
RO-RO is always cheaper unless the cars are crashed because most shipping companies wont fork cars on now (although YUWA can ship immobile vehicles in a special cradle). Remember that the container handling fees are very steep too.

cheers for the reply Simon, I am a little nervous, this is the reason i picked a cheap car first as a kind of trial run, i know it is bumped but its driving and from the pictures it certainly looks a very clean and original 95 wrx, that needs a headlamp and bumper,my friend who does all my paintwork suggests it could need a pull on the front leg, but realistically it will break for the money im paying out, only a few weeks ago i paid the same money for this and this was heavy front corner

and that has broke for over £2.5K, so really i shouldnt be able to lose(fingers crossed)

When I imported my WRX in 2000, I merely had to get a fuel receipt from France and Chunnel ticket as proof it had been used abroad, and brought into the UK.

Dave; its always been the same as far as I know. The confusion probably stems from the fact that a personal import, as we see it, is regarded by HM C&E as a commercial import. A PI has always been a vehicle that you have owned as an ex-pat and used for at least six months abroard. There are Duty and VAT concessions on vehicles that fit these very strict criteria and now, the Single Vehicle Approval system treats them differently too.
