funniest thing is that we give Pete all the ammunition...unwisely he tries to force his way as being the right way. wrong! no offence Pete....but if the likes of Roger Clark Motorsport et al use the cranking procedure, will you not concede there might be something in it? whether your car has blown up or not is not evidence in itself that cranking to get the pressure up is wrong.

OK, here is an extract taken from a form provided to Impreza owners.

This information is provided by one of the premier Impreza engine builders
in this country, i'll mention no names

At the end of the day it's your car so up to you what you do, do be honest
i don't give a toss but here goes.

Please Note: An engine spinning on the starter motor is rotating at a speed of approximately 330 RPM, about 5 rotations a second!! If the vehicle is serviced at 5000 mile intervals for say 50'000 miles and the above procedures have not been observed (The above being, as Pete calls it **** oil change), it is entirely possible that the engine will have been run without sufficient oil pressure for 2 to 3 seconds every oil change.

The simple mathmatics show that your lovingly serviced engine, if not treated as our instuctions advise, MAY have been spinning WITHOUT sufficient oil pressure for up to 30 seconds, or 150 revolutions, if serviced 10 times in that period.Neither of which is to be reccomended and in our oppinion is a major contributory factor in big eng failure.

Make your own minds up.

I think it was JC on Top Gear who reported that the Freelander was susceptible to a problem that defaulted the transmission to 2WD. The point was that very few owners reported the fault as, the only time the majority went 'off road' was when they pulled onto their driveway.

Point is, if you limit your revs to 3K your turbo could be seized and you just wouldn't know it, so who gives a to$$ what oil goes in anyway. Eh Pete?

Subaru BUILT my car

Subaru DESIGNED my car

Subaru invested £millions in developing my engine

No way will anything you say change my mind, I'll continue pre-soaking the filter, disconnecting the crank sensor and using decent oil!

Must admit he does have a certain paradoxical appeal. Mildly amusing but definitely not to be taken seriously Just humour him really

WTF do main dealers care? It's not in their interest to do anything other than by the book. Anyone with any savvy (other than for warranty purposes) wouldn't use them anyway. If you want a job doing properly and with some proactive input, use a non-franchised specialist.

Sorry, but thats a real ******* statement!!

So? you agree that Subaru Dealers do the Oil Change to the book then? That will be the Impreza Turbo Service Manual, yes?

I rest my case!!

Pete

ps. Of course some 'specialist' will tell you that they carry out the **** Procedure ....... it pays them another pile od dosh!!

And the Dealer will carry out as prescribed because if they do, there's the possibility of warranty work (paid for by Subaru), whereas the specialist has to foot the warranty bill themselves.

Specialists generally charge a lower hourly rate than main dealers, have more knowledge of the model and most importantly, the flexibility to carry out the work in the interest of the customer and the individual car without being tied to manufacturer's procedures.

'Motor Way' is an Oil sold by such places as Wilkos!!

It is about £4:99 a gallon and it's reconstituted oil (old engine oil passed through a nylon stocking and resold!!)

Yes, its fine, by the way!!
