Astraboy has a point with his car analogy....though to make a comparison, the car driver would have to attack a country lane in a high powered car, without lifting the throttle off the floor till he crashed it, which would inevitably happen.
The climber wasn't a dick, he just had a complete lack of respect for his own life, this is why nobody should feel sorry for him.

right then, Dan Osman didn't die free climbing. He died jumping off ATTACHED to a rope. The rope was too long and he hit a tree.
If you look at the size of the holds he's using in that clip they're massive. He's probably climbed it a million times (roped 1st).
Just think about your local "Twisties" that you know like the back of your hand. Same thing.
(yes, I'm a climber)

How do you know he didn't have a complete lack of respect for his own life? Were you a close personal friend?
Life is full of risks. Some take more than others. That climb looks as hard (it is), but the holds are big and strong enough to do easily. He was just extremely skillful and confident enough to do them rope free. As floatindolphion says he eventually died from human-error (his own mistake) when doing some static line jumps.
In the end, he ran out of luck. We all die, it's just a matter of when and how.
