A 290bhp sti is always going to leave an S2000. I'd be very surprised if a standard 300bhp S60R with considerably more weight to lug would leave your sti though - I expect this s60R was modified.
As John says torque is not as relevant as you think. Power (bhp) is derived from torque x rpm. So whilst your 295lbft equates to 300bhp at 5500rpm my 162lbft equates to my peak power of 240bhp at 8300rpm. You're car is at the end of a long hard day at 5500rpm.........mines isn't out of bed yet until 6000 and finishes up for the night at 9 on the dot
The best example of this is my 1:8th scale Hyper 7 buggy. It has a .21 engine that's about the size of a small pot of desert yet it produces 3-3.5bhp. Torque wise you could hold the wheels and resist it at full throttle but 3.5bhp is rather more impressive. Its produced at something silly like 40,000rpm though hence why the thing is rapid as f*ck! Tell you what - I'll race my Hyper 7 vs your volvo from 0-45mph

We should meet up for a big race Credit to the man that can drive both his vehicles at the same time My buggy is driving me nuts at the moment - I just can't get the fuelling right. Keeps bogging (occasionally) on full throttle.
That's a lot of tunable car for that money. I have a lot of time for good but unpopular cars a year or so after the first mug to buy it has taken a 40-50% depreciation hit! Mod it I say
High reving S2000 is good fun however its quite refined and well engineered. I find that 9000rpm doesn't seem any more crazy/dizzy than 7500rpm in your average sporty 2.0. Got my T1-R exhaust going on tomorrow which may alter my opinion of 9000rpm somewhat
mine was a demo one, i picked it up at 1y3months old, 10,000 miles on it(used by volvo manager), its brand new price was £34,000, i picked it up for 20k, a bargin!, and only 300bhp as standard

one truck for me, one for junior!, lol, sounds like your buggy is maybe running a little lean at the top end or maybe if only happening now and again, just abit of fuel starvartion, leading to being to lean for a moment, would be good to meet up for a battle!
i will mod it, as soon as the warrety runs out, im at 30k just now, should hit 60k, by this time next year, when it runs out, i do 35k+ per year!
there's guys in the US, that have got 400bhp from standard internals and standard turbo, done normal stuff, ie, zorst, downpipe, sports cat, chip, better intercooler, airfilter. all the s60r internals have been made stronger, forged this and that, etc as standard from volvo
is the new zorst going to make the car alot louder?

I've fitted my exhaust today! Oh.........my..........god!! I love the sound of decat scooby but this is a whole new ball game. The sound is incredible My mate filmed me driving by at 8k rpm in 3rd and after I passed I lifted. It sounds like a motorbike approaching, nearly and F1 car passing and the noise on the over-run is total rally slag. In the car is just screams Sad to have lost the dual pipes but it'll be worth it when I get the rear bumper capped to appear as a single exit. Seems to be pulling a little harder too

Nah, I've told my mate to send it too me but you can't see anything but headlights - you can hear it though Even when I do get it I'll need someone to host it. I'll look to get proper decent footage soon

S60R 0-30 (2.4)
this is the 0-30 from the autocar mag review of s60r, if you compare to the car & driver stats(in early post), its 0-30 in 1.9secs, and loads of peeps at the 1/4 mile getting 1.9 0-30, so thats wot the problem is, autocar, must had problems getting car off the line cleanly, which lead to poorer times.
great

Based on all the stats I've seen for them I'm just not seeing how they are going to beat an S2000 with a 0-100mph time of 14.3s as standard and RWD. Once rolling I expect the honda would hold its own or possibly edge it. Happy to meet up for a blat one evening

With only 180bhp/tonne the stats I've seen the UK mags and websites get seem to ring true. The american figures you quote just don't add up, 180bhp/tonne aint too special.

whilst on the subject
One time last year when i had my sti classic , i was passed ( at warp velocity )by someone in a S2000 clearly concerned that his manhood would somehow be diminished by merely following me......
I let him go - wasnt too sure of the speed limits ,safety of racing country lanes and the chance of det at 7.5k revs...

How do you know he just didn't fancy a spirited drive on his jack-jones. I suppose you drive you classic sti by the book all the time and enjoy 6k servicing and 22mpg just so you can say I have a scooby. Is it not more likely you open it up from time to time and pass a nissan primera who's owner thinks, 'look at that tw@t in a scooby yadda, yadda' I dont care if I pull up behind a lorry, tractor, evo of Ferrari if I want to go faster I'll pass it - simple as.

Blue's got a P1 so around 215bhp per ton! My car standard is around 191 - I've got breathing mods that might get me 5-8bhp more at the fly. I'd like to take on a high power luxo-machine but as I say I'll be surprised if you can pull on the Honda
