5th Gear and VBH - She has to go
#61
5th Gear is desperately trying to be Top Gear
The presenters aren't a patch on Top Gear's
The improved articles are nothing without a good presenter.
VBH is a minger with very poor diction for a presenter - "This EVO is mega!!"

Her lines in the Mitsi the other night were all over the shop, and every time I see her yanking on the handbrake to get a car sideways I cringe. They always end up looking like some chav joyrider razzing around a council estate. P!ss poor control on or beyond the limit, as she tries her best to copy the master of car ballet, Tiff. He may have failed as a successful racing driver, but boy can he make a car dance.
I prefered Kate Humble and Julia Bradbury on the old TG. Neither of them could drive even as good as VBH, but much nicer to look at and listen to than that over-excitable plummy stumpy munter.
Flame suit on - I don't mind the Honey Monster. I've always found him quite amusing, although James May is funnier. They both have t!ts though
I was going to write something about Plato, but I fear I may fall asleep

Completely Agree.
And as for Plato. When he first turned up on Driven he was really good. Now hes just weird. And I dont think 6 minutes in a Zonda qualifies as a road test! What did was his final result?
The problem that somebody identified is that they have 3 people who "think" they can drive well. So they have the Egos of race drivers. Which means they dont interact well. The TG team work because they are all different. And they have "The Stig" to do the driving aspect and set a time only. If the Stig ever spoke it would be rubbish.

Tiff's Aston review last week was about 4 minutes, if that It always starts bang on 8, credits must be 30-40s, then the intro maybe another 30-40s. First ads are usually between 5 and 7 mins past 8 I know they may want to open with a top story, but I'd rather they reviewed a new Daewoo in that slot and then gave us 8-10 minutes on the good stuff. I had more time for Penny Mallory then VBH. A bit like your mates fit mum when you're 14, but at least you don't want to punch her every 3 minutes.

If you don't like the programme, don't watch it! Simple, but I suspect that you be watching it again next week. I for one like the programme along with Top Gear and in my opinion there aren't enough motoring programmes like these on the box anyway. What we need is a programme like the one in Japan, called best motoring I think!!
And to all those who think VBH is cr@p driver. C'mon, do you really think you're that much better? because if your not that makes you cr@p too. Do you really think you could do much better in the M5 against an F1 car? Ok she went on to the grass, well wouldn't if you're brakes were fading and have a F1 car screaming up your ****! Some of you guys are dreaming!! I for one can't hold 4 wheel drifts and oversteer etc, or drive nearly as fast as her on a track. I'm cr@p, she isn't, otherwise she'd be pootling around in cars slowly on the road like James May and Richard Hammond.
ps. didn't VBH started in rallying hence the use of hand brakes or is that just for show?

When I did my rallying tuition the handbrake was disconnected to encourage you to move the balance of the car using the accelerator and footbrake. Certainly taught me a much more delicate and adaptable way of positioning a car before a corner. I can hold a 4 wheel drift in a 4WD car, and a powerslide in a RWD (much to my brother's annoyance, now he won't let me back in his MR2 ). The amount of professional track time she must have clocked up over the years should make for a much more competent and convincing ability than I have seen her extoll. But then, if daddy pays for it all, it doesn't matter how good you are. Look at some of the numpties who buy their way into F1 seats these days, and spend every race being an obstruction before spinning off

Well either way, I'm pretty sure she could easily out drive me. I've seen her in other car reviews and drove those cars pretty well. Could anyone have done better in the M5? I guess we'll never really know for sure. What I would like to see is VBH on TopGear doing the "celebrity in a reasonably price car", that should at least give a good idea of how she compares.

The M5 thing where she when onto the grass, i think that you lot should give here a break. How many of you had an F1 car right behind you, like she did. The noise of those F1 cars is really loud and distracting etc... I would of thought that any non F1 driver in her situtaion would have done the same thing. But maybe she shen on the grass as she did not know how/when Tiff in the F1 car would over take her? Maybe if it has been Kimi, or Alonso driving the F1 car and VBH driving the M5, im am sure it would of been a different story and She would not of gone off.

Kimi/Alonso would have passed her before she finished her first lap Then again they would have probably been allowed all the power of the car.

I wonder what her reaction would have been if she'd hit the F1 car. How many people would she need to pleasure to keep her job...

If you are aiming for the fastest possible lap then the driving style has to be as smooth as possible, sliding kept to a minimum, and carrying as much speed as possible through the corner. She knows that perfectly well since she mentioned it when she was driving one of the Evo's.
She was probably expected to put on a show for the cameras so that is was more entertaining than watching an exhibition of smooth driving which is not so exciting to watch.
M5 brakes are particularly effective and I doubt that they faded at all, just an excuse to say why she went on the grass and that was doubtless deliberate also for entertainment value.

Still, privilaged circumstances/unfair advantage- notwithstanding, she'd still drive away from most of us on here I'd bet.
But -and here's the critical point- at least none of us have even contributed to Max Power!!!!!!
