i'd have the S3.

with a nice set of 19" rims, tidy exhaust, then an ihi vf34 turbo conversion.

its not the v8 tvr's that normally go wrong, the rover v8 is a very good engine, its the trim, electrics, and ancillarys that fail on the v8's

very early ones like seac450 and the like often have worn rings nothing that most engines of that age have.

True, but the OP asked about the 4.2 Cerbera which doesn't have a Rover V8. It has an Al Melling-designed flat plane crank AJP V8.

If i could be certain about a Cerbera's reliability then it would be no contest, but unfortunately i cant!

And about 13mpg - a work collegue used to have one and he had the engine out at least 3 times, if it didn't have the wankel engine in it then yeah that would be a contender

You're right, you can't. You might get lucky and get a good'un, or you might get a duff'un. Buying from a reputable indie will help (e.g. James Agger), or alternatively buy one under your budget and drop it and a wodge of cash into somewhere like Austec and get them to sort it.

pfff Im getting 17mpg at least lol Seriously depends on the type of driving you do in them, sitting in town traffic is no good but if your moving along then theyre fine and should see anything up to 20mpg

Get one with an engine rebuild and you'll be fine
