Hello

Well, to be precise, you probably don't care, it's the lady that may prefer it.

In general, colonic irrigation helps remove the "rubbish" that has been attaching itself to your colon over the years. Effectively food is going off in your intestines and this helps it remove it.

For the enjoyment aspect, depending on how it is done it can stimulate the prostate gland which causes all kinds of interesting sensations.

Yes I didn't enjoy that examination either!

Can't believe you reckon its worth £50 a time to get that end hosed out. Mind you, I would not want the job I suppose!

Eat more broccoli, they say that does the job naturally and safely.

I've always thought that the people that have had it done are bound to say they feel loads better to justify spending £50 a time on it...

A treatment will begin with a detailed case study, and an explanation of the procedure. The client is then asked to remove all clothing and wear a gown provided by the therapist. The client then lies down on a treatment table and warm, purified water is introduced into the colon via the rectum, the therapist will use special massage techniques during the procedure to stimulate the release of stored faecal matter. The colonic will take between 30-45 minutes. Herbal and probiotic implants may be used and advice will also be given on dietary changes to enhance the treatment. Advice will also be given on how many sessions will be necessary, and a colon cleansing programme may be recommended to support the treatment.

To be registered, a therapist must have satisfactory training in anatomy and physiology, and considerable training and experience in a body based therapy. Subsequently they will have been trained at one of the approved and inspected Colonic Hydrotherapy training colleges. The premises of therapists are inspected prior to their admission to the Register, and these are periodically re-inspected. Most therapists have experience in treating such conditions as chronic fatigue, digestive disorders, headaches, skin problems and back pain.

Saxo Boy,

if you are serious then look here for basic information.

http://www.colonic-association.org/hydrotherapy.html

If you are based in London there are a number of clinics - the most private and least invasive is using the "Libby Bed" system. It is clean, private and not painful. Unlike the post above - the therapist will leave you alone to go through the procedure and will only check up on you as necessary. This is the fastest growing form of hydrotherapy because of this.

You may experience some cramping which women say is just like period pains and so they enjoy it when men suffer!

If you have never had it done before then you will probably want up to six session over a couple of weeks and then maybe once a month. This should be associated with eating very high fibre food and drinking at least 3 litres of water a day assuming you are average weight for a man.

There is no evidence that enjoying a colonic is related to homosexuality at all - I think it is merely the closet gays which abound Scoobynet get nervous when things like this are mentioned.

I am serious - I've been giving it fleeting thought for years and more intensive reading on the subject convinces me that I should give it a go. I'm currently attempting to lose weight but once I hit my target weight and adjust to a weight maintenance diet I'll book an appointment. In true saxo boy fashion I'll not be afraid to post my comments on the experience here. Can't see this being done to early 2006 so don't hold your breath and I may bottle it yet

I'm a great believer in nothing ventured nothing gained and thus far I have seen very little/no evidence that the procedure is harmful. If I do it and don't like it or don't feel any benefit I'll not do it again. If however it does create the sense of lightness and wellbeing that users describe then I imagine it would be well worth the £50 notes a session.

Only problem is I seriously hate anything going near my ring so she (note, there is no way a bloke is doing this!!!) will have a job getting me to relax.

Read "The Road to Wellville". Weird book, but part of the stay in the health spa is that everyone gets irrigated more or less daily.

I've also wondered what it's like, but there's an interesting point above about gut flora, so maybe it's "yesterday's cure".

I'm amazed that the mods left this one in NSR - 40-odd replies before a sensible one must be some kind of record...

I think they recommend supplimentation after the proceedure to replace any lost flora and 'friendly bacteria' I'm pretty sure it would be naturally replaced soon anyway.

Enemas and colonics have a different impact.

Colonics can be a powerful method for a detox - which will also assist with weight loss.

Are colonics themselves fun and enjoyable - not really - see it as a procedure. The increased health afterwards due to the detox effect is fun and enjoyable.

I will post the details of someone I know who runs a clinic of Marylebone High Street.

I'm particularly interested in the fact they take on average 5-6lbs of the hard black stuff out of you over the course of a few sessions. That isn't the sh*t you would have passed within a few days anyway - its the really nasty stuff thats stuck firmly in their. Having 5lbs of muck cleaned out of you has to be good for your feeling of well-being and possibly your gutline too.

Saxo,

this depends on a number of factors regarding your diet and health, as well as the colonic methodology.

The build up of significant 'colonic plaque' is typically related to a low fibre, high meat content diet. If you are a highly hydrated vegetarian with a lot of fibre then this is much less likely to be the case (it wasn't for me for example).

To get the kind of result you are talking about will be a series of intensive treatments combined with specific additives to the colonic itself, as well as requiring you to be on a specific detox diet. You will also need to be highly hydrated.

A typical health farm who specialises in this type of cleanse will have you having treatments everyday for a week - most commonly with a diet that is based purely on fruit and vegetable juice. No solid food.

You will get very significant benefits from this type of holisitic detox, especially if you have been overweight or have had a imbalanced diet.

Once I can dig out the details I will send you contacts in London who can talk to you about this in more detail.

Interesting claim. Wonder if the isotope swallowing studies would back this up...

Nice to have the time to worry about things not worth worrying about IMHO.

I remember a GP when I was a student - he was categoric in that nematodes were passed into the body by eating sugar.

Of course, being a doctor he was clearly correct

Or maybe post mortem analysis might have more to say on this subject - particularly the amount of colonic plaque removed from the very famous meat eating overweight Elvis
