Oh, found something. I'm proud that we are like Saddam. We bombed the Kurds in 1930, so we got them first. Love being first.

Why all the anti British Empire stuff. Trying to suggest we should be ashamed of our past or something? You can't judge what happened then against todays standards of acceptability.

The British Empire actually advanced the world by arguably giving it a common language and spreading civilisation at the time. Might not be PC to talk about this sort of thing... but even the mighty Americans don't have anywhere near the global influence we had once upon a time!

This country is going to the dogs. In fact it is becoming very third rate.
Too many trendy Wendies, local and central government run from ivory towers, totally out of touch with the majority of the poulation but staying in power, furthering their own doctrine and getting away with it because of public apathy. The average people just accept there is nothing they can do as individuals and there is nobody apparent with great leadership qualities to mould us all into a cohesive group.

If I had my way there would be some drastic changes.
If it is not in the interests of UK Ltd. it would not be a priority.
Resources in terms of money and effort would be concentrated on things to benefit the majority and not to look after narrow or cloistered interests.
Beurocrats wasting funds would be sacked.
Anybody in central or local government not discharging their responsibilities or fudging issues and delegating so that decisions did not rest at their door would be removed.
At present, many public servants operate on the principal that if you delegate and the wheel comes off then you are not in the firing line.
A coherent transport system that would take twenty years to achieve.
Competant managers in the health service, education and the police service etc.
Policement to be policemen not pen pushers.
A prison building programme. If you want to be anti social or a burden on society you will, after fair warning, be removed from society.
Parents responsible for the actions of their children to age 16yrs.
An end to a new innitiative or new law every week and a stop to change for change sake.
That's just the start but you have the picture.
I wish.............................................. ..........

Why cant you ? Now we use economic exclusion. Its cheaper than giving you a job for life making bullets and more effective. Stunningly more efficient ecomically than a machine gun against spears.
I'm nineteen stone and built like Jona Lomu, so I'll just come and take your posessions because I am bigger and harder than you. Happy with that ? or are you going to try defend yourself. You dont think the Empire was the Big bad Jona do you ??????

I know what your saying and understand it. But at that time we needed to be strong militarily as things were different, the strongest prospered and life wasn't fair. The British Empire was built on trade anyway.

Whilst it's not in our nature to really crow about our achievements, we have shaped the modern world more than maybe any other country and quite out of proportion for our size. And before you say it, history is something we can be proud of and no political party or government can take away from us.

As a motoring related website we can be proud of the British automotive industry (even if it's not necessarily owned by the British anymore). Iconic brands such as Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lotus. We contribute the most to sport of motor racing, especialy the high tech side (F1: Williams, MacLaren, Jordan/Midland, BAR/Honda, Renault, Red Bull, Cosworth, Ilmor, Cart/A1: Lola, WRC - Ford/M-Sport, Mitsubishi/Raliart, Subaru/Prodrive, Suzuki/?, not to mention a whole load of top notch suppliers to those teams). And that's just in the automotive world.

Thumbs up

I'm really proud of the multicultural society that has been created for us all by our wonderful enlightened government.

I'm even more proud of our foreign policies and the decomocratic society we have created in Iraq. The whole world looks at us with admiration for that.

Finally, our ecomomy has to be the best run in the world. A place where property values just rise and rise forever and the less people do the more they are rewarded.

How much better can things get?

I’m proud of British history and the British Empire, how a comparatively tiny nation can command such great respect the world over is unbelievable.

These days, no, I’m not particularly proud of what this once great nation has become. We’re a nation of cling on’s who are to dependant on the help and approval of others. We can no longer look after our self’s and our government are too scared to speak out and look after the well being of our citizens. Our military are a shadow of the Great British super power that once was. Our government are to busy pinching penny’s to feed, clothe and house dole dossing chavs and immigrants rather than kitting out our lads who are getting killed in the name of the American **** kissing program we seem to have got locked into. Our manufacturing and public services are dieing (or died) the death. We would rather outsource work half way round the globe to try and save a few quid when really this is false economy as it is putting thousands back onto benefit and further weakening the country’s work force. Our national assets have been sold off and are now at the mercy of foreign asset strippers who are making billons off assets that the British public have paid for. I’m not blaming one particular government for this both Labour and the Tories have had an equal hand in bringing this nation to its knees, it seems that we have become victims of our own laziness and greed.

And at the risk of being called a racist or even being laughed at I still fly our flag in the hope that this nation can one day become Great again.

I'm proud to be English but annoyed that if I say that it's deemed to be racist.

I'm proud to be British, too.

What am I proud of?

Our great and glorious history. The many brilliant inventions and discoveries originating here. Literature and culture. The most successful, fair and democratic non constitutional democracy in history. The most successful, efficient and able to recognise friend from foe armed forces in history. Freedom of speech (yes, in spite of the best offorts of the current administration). Multi-culturalism. Religious tolerance. Humour. Tea (OK, not our invention but our tradition). I could go on.

But looking to now rather than to history, I'm proud of our ability to get on with things even when it looks bleak. I'm proud of our health system, our education system and the general state of our society. I'm proud of the fact that people look at us as the best place to be, even in preference to their motherland.

I love being an Englishman.

People still are proud of their homes and towns/villages.
There ARE still children who have been brought up with correct values and respect for their elders.
Most folk I meet have manners.
A smile is still free of charge.
There's HOPE.

The proudest moments in my life of being BRITISH is fighting side by side my fellow paratroopers in far and distant ****holes.
Yes mate, totally agree. And in that respect, the following gets put on the top of my list:
The Falkland Islands. Taken over by the the Agentinians for political point scoring, but instead of rolling over and letting them have them or some "meet you half way" negotiations, Maggie (who I'm not a big fan of to say the least) sends a task force. The Task force is not big or even that well equiped, not to mention the minor inconvience of being one hell of a long way away from home/resupply/bases, but they go in and retake the island. Why? cos its was british soil that had been invaded and they crossed the line.

This is what makes me feel proud to be british. A mindset of "Do NOT **** with the british as you WILL regret it when we return for payback. And we will come back, dont worry about that." And there are many examples.

Staying with the Falklands conflict for a while, the sinking of the general Belgrano. I dont care whether it was returning to port or not, we were at war and they were the enemy. One of the captains of one of the other ships in the task force summed it up with "The essence of war is violence, moderation in war is stupidity".

As well as that, other examples include:

British forces in iraq feeling a little teed off about two of their companions being held captive in an iraqi prison, so not only do they go in there and free them, but they flatten the damn place while doing it

This picture:

The copper who thought he had a suicide bomber on his hands in stockwell tube station, so he put the guy on the ground and put a bullet in his head to protect the people on the tube. Okay he may have got it wrong, but his intentions, courage and determination make me feel proud beyond belief.

this speech:

Show respect for them.

There are some who are alive at this moment who will not be alive shortly.
Those who do not wish to go on that journey, we will not send.
As for the others, I expect you to rock their world.
Wipe them out if that is what they choose.
But if you are ferocious in battle remember to be magnanimous in victory.

Iraq is steeped in history.
It is the site of the Garden of Eden, of the Great Flood and the birthplace of Abraham.
Tread lightly there.

You will see things that no man could pay to see
-- and you will have to go a long way to find a more decent, generous and upright people than the Iraqis.
You will be embarrassed by their hospitality even though they have nothing.

Don't treat them as refugees for they are in their own country.
Their children will be poor, in years to come they will know that the light of liberation in their lives was brought by you.

If there are casualties of war then remember that when they woke up and got dressed in the morning they did not plan to die this day.
Allow them dignity in death.
Bury them properly and mark their graves.

It is my foremost intention to bring every single one of you out alive.
But there may be people among us who will not see the end of this campaign.
We will put them in their sleeping bags and send them back.
There will be no time for sorrow.

The enemy should be in no doubt that we are his nemesis and that we are bringing about his rightful destruction.
There are many regional commanders who have stains on their souls and they are stoking the fires of hell for Saddam.
He and his forces will be destroyed by this coalition for what they have done.
As they die they will know their deeds have brought them to this place. Show them no pity.

It is a big step to take another human life.
It is not to be done lightly.
I know of men who have taken life needlessly in other conflicts.
I can assure you they live with the mark of Cain upon them.

If someone surrenders to you then remember they have that right in international law and ensure that one day they go home to their family.
The ones who wish to fight, well, we aim to please.

If you harm the regiment or its history by over-enthusiasm in killing or in cowardice, know it is your family who will suffer.
You will be shunned unless your conduct is of the highest -- for your deeds will follow you down through history.
We will bring shame on neither our uniform or our nation.

(On Saddam's chemical and biological weapons.)

It is not a question of if, it's a question of when.
We know he has already devolved the decision to lower commanders, and that means he has already taken the decision himself.
If we survive the first strike we will survive the attack.

As for ourselves, let's bring everyone home and leave Iraq a better place for us having been there.

Our business now is north.
The Harrier.

The Bouncing Bomb.
Christ, I could go on all night in the same vein. But I think you get the message.

Yes but remember Tim Collins got serious **** for what he did too.
A few more leaders like Tim collins instead of mealy mouthed politicians we have now and perhaps we could go forward.

Isn't this "heated" debate, the very reason why Scoobynet got shot of the political forum?

I'll bet the mods are hovering over the vape button
