I think its the quality of the cars at that age that are coming into the country, then the new owners buy one, its a total heap (crash damaged etc) which then pushes the value of decent cars of that age down, puts insurance premiums up because you spend most of your cash fixing the bits that were wrong with the car to start with, have no money for proper maintenance, replace parts like tyres with cheaper options (not a good idea) which can lead to longer braking distances/less grip, crash bang wallop.... there you go, another hike in the premiums..... i think thats what Bubba is getting at

I would have thought that if there was a lot of carp around then you would be able to sell your car for more money, not less. The rarer the car, the more valuable it is. So if a good condition car is rare, well then it must be worth more.
Time will tell. I think the late model classics will be worth a lot in the future...

I think if everyone keeps complaining like the person who started this thread then Scoobynet will end up like MLR ,, where there is a massive divide between the early-late evo owners.
What i used to love about scoobynet is that everybody had time for each other it didnt matter if you drove a 93 wrx or a 22b every body got on fine.
But there is now getting a snobbery about the scoobynet forums , ill give you some examples what i mean
A, Alot of scooby owners think they drive Ferrari Enzos not a 4 door saloon made for gonna the shop in and picking the kids up, there are many people on here which i am sure think that a production impreza is actually a real rally car not an everyday car. (idiots)

I'm by no way, a newbie. I'm on my 3rd scoob now and it is certainly NOT a minter. I was without a scoob for a few months and decided i had to get another one, not caring about how rough it was.
The insurance is more than the rest, bu next year, a driving conviction comes off my license, so it's gonna come down quite a bit.
Without sounding like a stuck up d1ck, you can't say the subject of this discussion and you can't help but wind up the owners, who are included, in the subject.

I wish the readers of this thread would stop accusing me of snobbery! I have stated that I own (and prefer) a classic - and it's nowt special, either. My reason for posting the thread is more to do with why so many new owners are opting for really early imports with doubtful history when some nice UK turbos are flooding the market and won't sell. The next thing is we see horrible threads about UK late-model classics being trashed for facelift parts. I can't help but feel that the whole practice of importing these cars will be of detriment to the marque in the long run.

A lot of people are buying the wrx over the uk turbo for many reasons a/c being one nicer seats better set up but yes the **** fuel over here does suck and we lose power because of it still i love my 93 import still would have been nice if it had been the hole car that come over and not taken me over a year to find most of the dash and other little bits i was lucky with mine turned out to be a wrx-ra and theres not one bit of rust on my 12 old car unlike the 10 year old ford i once owned

The complete Impreza line up;
1. Early WRX's. Basically they are bouncing bettys. You get very little warning when they are going to go off, usually a few confusing seconds in slow motion before the bang. Damage is alway considerable and the financial implications will stimulate the production of waste materials in abundance. Driven mainly by chavs and people wanting to make a quick if smoke filled getaway. Usually advertised as being a "wicked" and having the concealed weapon storage locker as standard.
2. Classics. Unbeatable in unmolested form, muts nuts material, even if they are worth about 15 quid and a pint now. Molested models looks pants and are chav city Arizona. That's a fact along the same lines as the grass is green, let's try and make the best of it.
3. WRX Sti Type Six Sigma RA Limited *****-to-the-Wall no Stereo Edition; Oh FFS why? Usually driven by Colin McRae wannabees who will tell you how good they are at any given opportunity, and how it's a god above miracle that they aren't part of the WRC. Usually make a solid buy though, given that it's been run on a mixture of Optimax, Monkey **** and extract of Greenfly Nads. You'll find the oil has been changed every 10 miles or 30 minutes, which comes sooner.
4. New Age WRX's in WR Blue with gold wheels. So many of them several owners 'share' them, each thinking it's theirs. 90% of which are driven by new Scoob enthusiasts and glory supporters who two years ago didn't know WTF a Scooby was and still sported the opinion, "that jap foreign muck? Eck no, not beat my Vectra, not in my lifetime sonny"
5. WR1 - bought by the same people who buy £180 trainers and stick them on eBay 5 minutes later, dumbly giggling and muttering "it's only money..." If you didn't manage to order one of these rarities, Subaru UK recommend that as an alternative you withdraw 30k from the bank and make a giant papier-mache **** from it, to which you can attach your head.

Second post I looked into today and again absolute joke!! People got nothing better to do than b1tch about everyone else? It's really not nice guys!! I can see what you mean about the unappreciating scooby owners.... but WTF i am indeed a import wrx classic owner. Dedicated Ford Fan that has been slowly converted into the Subaru world.
My classic has done me proud and I think is a fairly clean example. I did not look in a Max Power mag and decide that it was a cheap fairly good BHP car to rag about. I just spent £6k on my engine alone having it the way I wanted it, the color and shape i wanted too. YES I can afford a new age one, but thought - Whats the point jumping straight to that.... may as well start off at the bottom and work my way up. Sensible option I thought. Otherwise where would I progress to from a WR1?
I work in motorsport so had some great advice of what to look at, what parts go wrong etc etc. So do you think it was fair to put 'ALL' Classic import owners in the same category? Even had some friends from Prodrive look at it, to check it was ok!! (Thanks boys)

In a few years (if not now) the value of these in mint condition will be higher than a mint UK99, not only that but insurance will be cheaper than yours amoungst specialist 'classic' insurance companies.
