No such thing as a spent conviction under US law..... and the uk's rehabilitation of offenders act does not apply.

Surely, the travel agent should have gone through all this with you in detail before you paid the holiday in full?

If it is genuinly going to be an issue getting into the US why don't you see if you can pick the cruise up elsewhere or go for one of the Carnival cruises that depart from other Caribbean locations.

Hope you get it sorted out m8.

Nope
To the letter of US law, even if arrested but subsequently no conviction you are ineligible to travel visa free so would need a visa.

Lie !!!!!!!!

You'll be home devolping pictures before they even pick it up..... IF AT ALL !!!!!

I'd rather wing and give it a go than sit at home draming about what might have been while 2.5k in the hole.

I've just come back from the States and filled in said form on the plane, at imigration they checked my Passport, Filed the green form and hoped I had a good trip.

If they did pick it up you're half way there mate.

I REALLY would just go if I was you!

I was the only one on my Flight to be investigated when i visited Miami Last week.. nearly missed my connecting flight because of it.

I had my fingerprints taken as all visitors do, then he pulled out a big red marker and wrote big red "P"'s all over my Visa forms, then called over the tannoy for an escort to take me downstairs (slightly embarrasing !)

Went into a small room with a few chairs in it, guy infront of me was getting a right interrogation about leaving the US last time without being "stamped" out.

I reckon they thought i was moving over there to get work or something (24 YO Male on my own).. they kept asking about my Job at home.

Convinced them that i was visiting the girlfriend whos' at Miami uni and that the women's clothes and shoes in my suitcase were hers

They were very intimidating.. i was panicking a little bit. they gave me no explanation as to why they picked me out, and when i asked, they just said it was random checks.

Came back to Britain, and there was an old guy just sat there , everyone waved their passports from a distance at him, and then there wasn't even any customs at the airport, just strolled on through

What an unbelievable thread.

Somebody admits to being charged with robbery, although we still don't know if he was convicted of said crime, and nearly everyone says what a shame you might have lost your money!!

Personally I'd say good, you deserve to lose it. Why the fúck should any country allow you in if you have a criminal record with robbery being one of those crimes?

More fool you for thinking you could or indeed should be allowed.

I wonder if all those on here would say the same if the ****** had robbed either yourselves or a close family member? Maybe he did and you don't know?

Crazy place indeed.

I guess the idea of justice is that if you are convicted of a crime you serve an appropriate sentence and are then released back into society

Anyway, FWIW, US Immigration have no way of checking if a UK citizen has a criminal record, not without jumping through hoops anyway.

Yes and often the victims continue to serve their sentence one way or another.

You would have needed a few hours to have attempted to drive into around and then out of Chicago! Traffic here makes the M1 on a friday night look like a walk in the park!

Agree though that the immigration at O'Hare is a pain, almost always a big queue

nice... cheers for the replys....

ok heres wot happened, about 6 rs ago i had an xr3i lol, came out one morning window smashed stereo gone, next day through the grapevine found out who done it... like ya do lol
anyway we didnt do anything about it for a few days even though it was a rather expensive alpine

we was up the local one night had just quite a few to many... like ya do lol

walked out of pub to trott home and who do we see drive round the corner! yup the matey who fookin nicked me radio, so we calmly walked round the corner opened his door gave him a few rather hard slaps and took the radio out of his dashboard (wasnt my one hed sold mine)

next day me and me m8 get arrested and charged with robbery, do not pass go do not collect 200 pounds straight to jail for 21 months

upon release though we did give him just a few more slaps, he didnt grass us up that time though

the replica offence was just somin completely stoopid when i was younger no violance etc it wasnt a robbery

i guess it was 21 months for pinching a stereo and kicking the living daylight (a few slaps) out of the bloke.
