No model of car can be 'CHAV'
#31
So instead of 'chav' meaning working class uneducated people with little taste, it's now a derogatory term to describe anyone who doesn't conform to the opinion of 'good taste' adopted by the masses fed to them by popular press ?
Linguistics and thought control by the media...aren't they wonderful !
I'm sticking with Robert Pirsig's opinion that if you think it's good, it's good.
I'll be sticking with my 6 yr old classic, because there's nothing wrong with it.
Anyone who disagrees can go buy an Ipod, Imac, Inotebook, Itunes....as if I care.

I assume you are a car enthusiast so you buy the best car you can afford like me.
BTW, I have a 4 year old WRX and it's mine, ALL MINE I tell ya!!!

To be honest i'd love to have a newer car, but at 25 i have other things to spend my money on/save up for, like a deposit on a house.
I work bloody hard to afford to run my car, and it really pi55es me off when people on here slag cars like mine off!!!!!
Sorry i can't afford anything newer, just hope that when i do get a deposit for a house that people won't slag that off aswell, just because they have newer/bigger houses.

You might laugh at us early WRX owners, but we'll laugh at you when you realise how much money you have lost after owning the car for a year!!!
I might only have an old car, but at least it is MINE, and it doesn't belong to a finance company!!!!

like in any walk of like, there are bums and layabouts in every social gatherings.
Remember jim off the royal family, he had sweet FA to offer anyone else, he was poor, on benifits, (fictional i know) but would you class him as a chav, cos he fits your description of a chav.
People on here use is far to often for all the wrong meanings.

From your illustration of what you wear and have done to your car, I would say you have poor taste, however that does not make you a 'chav', it merely makes you someone with poor taste

no, nor could i give a flying fu** if i seen a "chav" driving one.
if he bought it, insured it, then its up to him or her what they do to it IMO.
I had a classic 3 years ago, 98 plate white classic, PPP fitted, personly i think it looked nicr than the one i have now, but as i like to use my car for the purpose intended, things break, so a warrany was a must.
so who are any of you lot to sit there and call newage owners, if anything, people like myself reading some of the posts, would read jealousy, nothing else.
Not that im saying any of you are. If i want to spend 20+k on a car, then i will and to hell what anyone else thinks

People just see a certain type of car and automaticaly get all excited and shout chav, as they think it is cool!!!
I think the word chav got boring over 6 months ago, shame people still love to used it automaticly when they her 'WRX' and '£3k'
And by the way....i bought my car a long time ago for a hell of a lot more than £3k!!!!!!

ie.....if you have a new car you won't get called a chav, but you will lose lots of money. Vice versa is you have an older car SOME PEOPLE will call you a chav, but at least you won't lose a lot of money.
It is all down to personal choice. I'd rather have an older car and not loose money, others have other ideas. Just a pity when people want to slag me off and call me a chav for my choice.

i see what your saying.
but its all trade offs.
i know that my car hadnt had many miles of abuse before i had it. 37 miles is all its possible to have had unless it had been clocked.
My clutch is under warranty for 3 years, useful, as im sure that mine aint going to last much longer, im certain thats at least £400 fitted by a dealer.
my diff has a problem, a bit of hassle, unforseen may i add, but mine will be fixed at the cost of subaru.
I drive my car hard, so the way i see it, buying an older car to drive hard is by no means always the cheaper option, if parts on yours break, you have to pay for them to be fixed, the only difference is that i have payed up front so to speak,

Hand on heart, I've yet to see one person who I would describe as a Chav behind the wheel of a Scooby around my way. The ones that might fit the "accepted definition" -although I'm not sure that exists anymore- of chav all drive........you guessed it, Nova, Corsas and Saxos! :-)

The fact that the vehicle has one foot in its metaphorical mechanical grave will not stop them from modifying it to try and look like a high performance car. I use the term modifying loosely here, what they actually do is 'gyp-up' or 'barry-up' their motors. The first 'mod' a chav will make to their rust bucket is to acquire a set of alloy wheels.

Girls seem to like my Scooby, but I've yet to experience as Jeremy Clarkson memorably put it "the snapping of knicker elastic at 50 paces" If it does happen, I'll be a Scooby man for life!!

Surprised he can fit in an Evo's bucket seats!
With all that weight, even the FQ400 would be outdragged by a Milkfloat!

Somehow I wish I hadn't started this now, lets change the subject!
So do you think an atmospheric dump valve on an Evo works better than one on a bugeyed scooby (which is the best looking scooby ever, BTW)?
I'm retiring to a safe distance now!

I think chav's really are poor people who want to look rich, but quite clearly arent. Old BMW's are often a popular chav choice. The chav at the wheel thinks everyone else is thinking "wow hes got a BM he must be rich!", when most people are thinking "look at that tw@t in his 500quid scrapyard dodger!"
