But this is the point......it's been going on through the ages and no-one even battered an eyelid before.....I mean if you had said this 30 odd years ago you would have been laughed out the city......

I'm just saying it's been banned in certain pubs anyway, so thats already the compromise........

as for you alloy....I think you'll find it's your own de-cat

But medical proof of smoking's effects is now irrefutable, as well there being a shift in society's opinions to smoking in public places. Just because it has been, doesn't mean it always has to be.

Absolutely!!

It is a terrible habit, and I would like to quit but what most non smokers dont realise is that we are addicted to a drug, which is happily sold thanks to the gov't.

Although most smokers would like to give up, it is difficult, and when in a situation where you cant have a ciggie it does affect your mood, and can lead to agression and behaviour outside of your normal character.

I would imagine a few scraps here and there, especially in my home town where probably 90% of folk smoke

And if you are allowed to smoke it's the establishments problem...not the smoker....

Bull****. Don't blame the Government. Take responsibility for your own actions. There are millions of ex-smokers in the world so whilst it aint easy, it can be done.

Who's perfect? If I can stop smoking, anyone can but don't blame others for smoking when you can do something about it.

I wasn't blaming anyone, I was answering the question of will there be any trouble - IMO there will be.

I never said its not possible to give up, just that the gov't are quite happy to supply legal drugs, get everyone hooked, then ban it

I bet you still dream about smoking as well, you never fully get away from it, might have known you're an ex-smoker, they're the worse for it

I see this ol' girl is still going strong I'd just like to point out that I for one will be continuing to smoke like a trooper I will be out in the "nicey nicey" presumptuous (sp?) clean aired pub/club watching people get ratty and others bask in the smugness, listening to tree huggers and the like comment on how nice it is to "finally" be able to enjoy a night out without going home smelling of ****.
How the beer tastes better without the stench of **** everywhere and how their eyes don't fcukin sting.
Tell you what. This time I will adapt and change MY lifestyle to accomodate you wingeing *******. I'll skulk around like a criminal while you indulge in your righteous whim.
I'll interupt the conversations or fun that I'M having with MY mates just so you can taste your fcukin Gin.
I'll not smoke in case you fancy populating the planet with more selfish spawn and you don't want you or your righteous sandal wearing missus to suddenly become infertile.
I'll not smoke in public, that way you can walk down the street without having to step over *** ends "everywhere", but at least your chewing gum will find a clean spot to land!
I'll even NOT SMOKE just because it means I can stand in the middle of the pub and tell YOU ******* how fcukin antisocial it is to remove someones right to smoke in public places. I'll expect you all out of an evening, every weekend, seeing as it's clean to do so now and I don't want ANY complaining when the NHS doesn't get better and tax DOESN'T Drop
I bet you lot think it's ok to drive at 40 mph on a dual carriage way because "it says so" Fcukin sheep!

*Steps of box*

Thank you please

Off to the pub to smoke 20.............................all at once

By the same token, you can argue that the Government did everything in it's power to dissuade people from smoking with ad campaigns, excessive taxation etc etc. But people were too stupid to take any notice and continued smoking - so now they are taking it a stage further by banning it in public places.

Ex-smoker may or may not be more anti-smoking but you do realise that:

a) it's bloody stupid
b) it's expensive
c) it's unhealthy
d) it looks stupid
e) it's disgusting

Either way, Western governments are legislating against smoking so either get used to it and stop whingeing (not directed at you) or understand that you need to smoke where other people are not directly affected.

There's a big difference between smoking and alcohol consumption - someone standing next to you can consume as much alcohol as he likes without affecting your health (unless he beats you up - and that's already illegal - or spontaneously combusts!).

I've no objection to people sticking needles in themselves if they choose to, but if they start sticking them into me they might get a kick in the nuts.

I've no objections to other people smoking themselves to death either, but I choose not to smoke, so why should I have to breathe in yours?

So answer me this. I'm sitting somewhere, minding my own buisiness, when along comes fred bloggs with his *** and proceeds to smoke me out. I take out my little battery operated fan and blow the smoke back at him because a) I don't like smoke in my face and b) I was there first. WHY does he then become annoyed ? I'm only returning to him what is rightfully his.

When I was a lad........ most pubs had separate public and lounge bars. Now they're usually amalgamated, often with food area incorporated.

But if they hadn't been, then the public bars could have stayed as smoking zones with bar staff who themselves smoked. If punters didn't like the smoke off they went to the lounge bar. If someone wanted a pie and chips or a sarnie then this would be prepared in lounge area and plated to public bar.

In any event I think a pub should be able to largely eliminate a heavy smoke atmosphere with some decent extractors or recirculation systems. Airlines used to do this very effectively in a confined area.

Me? I really enjoy sitting in the corner of a bar with a pint and a ciggie

I do indulge in the odd cuban ceegar myself. But I am all for the ban.

I remember once being out in a bar smoking a huge cigar. Some pissed up tart told me to Pizz off else where with it as it stunk. I looked down and couldn't believe that both her and her mates all had cigarettes lit!
WTF?

As a Morris dancer (or Morris Performance Artiste as i prefer to be called) i object in the strongest possible terms to the arrogant disregard not shown towards people who really don't know if they believe in anything or not.

Such persons aught not to be stuffed with nails!

a) The fan was made in Hong Kong I think ! b) and I'd guess that ripe vagrants aren't usually allowed into public bars.
