i dont see why youve said that i have taken into account what people have said but considering the nearest scooby dealership is a 30 mile drive away i thought id might as well buy a new battery to just eliminate that as the problem. and its now three days after fitting the new battery and its running fine thought id drive to subaru today anyway and they checked it over for me and said theres no problem with the alternator atall they reckod everything seemd fine and not to worry so im not cheers for all the help everyone looks like it was just a battery in the end SORTED

Fair enough but not everybody can spell or did well in that area at school but it does not mean they do not know there stuff because often they can give helpful advice.

Far away from BP now, moved to the Cotswolds

I used to live opposite Uplands Drive, still have a lot of friends round there.

Anyway, as the other guys say, check your alternator out, if its under warranty then it will get replaced.

Cheers

If the battery went flat whilst the engine was running you must have had a chargeing fault full stop. So maybe your alternator is playing up intermittently. My guess is that you will need a new alternator very soon or you have an intermittent wireing fault.

I have to say i agree,It really needs looking at properly,Checking the ind circuit,The charge voltage(if any) and the resistance between the alternator and battery will show up any wiring faults.

The only other possibility which is unlikley but possible is that you had very high ressitance between the battery terminal and the lead terminal and by changing the battery its been cured.

Thumbs up

thanks everyone for your help, alternator or not its working at the moment and i fitted the new battery about four days ago and thers no sign of any lack of power to the electrics so fingers crossed. to be honest i fully expect the alternator to go soon but why not get all the millage out of it that i can untill it goes completly (especially since the subaru dealership reckond it was fine, bunch of cksuckers they where but thats another story) once again thanks for all your help i do appreciate it nice one lads (big fat for the moment anyway)

Are you a member of the RAC ? Maybe you will have Ant out. I hope you are sorted mate but it is very unlikely unless you are extremely lucky.
