im sure they will, or they will be named and shamed. That will also be the least of there worries.

But, im hoping for a simple fix to get my prized possetion back on the roads.

Afterall, i know that things can go wrong, its an inconvience, but sh** happens, its how you deal with it that counts, so fingers crossed for a speedy return of the car.

Im going to miss my local meet now, not happy

Most oil level sensors only work when first starting the engine. They will not show a loss of oil while the engine is running. It could be these engines have suffered from something like turbo oil seal failure. The leaking oil gets burnt, or partially burnt, as many of us have seen on cold starts occasionally. When the cat is hot the usual blue smoke will be oxidised to some extent. Providing the oil loss rate is not too high you see no blue smoke and no leaks but the oil is dissappearing fast. The cat and HEGO sensor are also being poisoned. When the warning light comes on the oil has all gone and the engine is history. I've seen cars almost empty the sump in 100 miles without any blue smoke at all. Every MOT they needed a new HEGO sensor. Every other MOT they needed a new cat.
There should be no problem with a warranty claim in these cases, even if you checked the oil level every time you filled the tank you still may not have saved the engine from a sudden seal failure on a long journey.

well, i have to say that would probably explain the ECU light being on sometimes, and not others. i did complain about smoke, but then it seemed to stop, they told me it was a faulty sensor in the exhaust and it needed changing. but they never called me to say the part was in. I called them today as well and it still wasnt it.

Would this cause an unusual amount of soot build up in the tail pipe, because they did notice that...

Thanks for the replies guys

no bother mate, i always used to think this kind of crap happens to somebody else... Not any more.

i wouldnt worry to much about the oil, mine did the same and most new WRX's and STI's are similar, brand new, they do use a bit of oil whilst its bedding in.

I certainly hope this doesnt happen to yours....

Just a quick note, eneterprise, cant fault them, top class service. They called me this morning to tell me to have my driving license ready, there delivering my hire car.

A very clean 05 reg Ford Focus TDCI. Very happy, its no WRX but its no slouch either. and the best bit, over the next week or 2, i dont think i will be stopping at a petrol station. 64 mpg on the way home from work lol.

if i do stop, i hope i remember to fill it with derv rather than the usual optimax lol

I'm gald I check mine every weekend now. I once left it 2 weeks. I have a MY05 STI PPP. Really sorry to hear about your motor mate, I am sure you will be fine. Since you were thinking about mods (glad you didnt go down that route) it's just as well you didn't, When I called Subaru UK to ask about fitting an STI (high flow) air filter, they said it would invalidate the warranty, how unbelievable was that ! Anyway keep us posted as to how you get on, I'm sure you will be telling us soon about how bored you areere running it in again when they fit your new engine FOC.

im well glad i never modded it noe...

anyway, UPDATE....

i was at the garage this morning, see the service receptionist and she told me that it was a major engine strip down... Worried that that could mean an engine rebuild, i went accros to the workshop to speak with someone there...

"nice car you have there mate, didnt last to long did it. We have had a couple of these in like this now"

anyway, he took me to my car and pointed at something, not sure what it was, i could see the cams and that was about it. Pot 1 had given up, no idea as to the cause, he didnt really care, they ordered the new engine this morning, then it will be fitted an im back in the routine of filling up every week again lol

seems to be going alright with out a hint of a quibble of it being replaced under warranty.

whilst it was in i asked about fitting the SAMCO hosing, he said they would fit it and cant see a problem with this attecting the warranty,.Any one had experience with this?

Thanks

John

John

Just a tip for when you get it back on the road.
Make sure that exhaust sensor is in and working ok. The engine management refers to this sensor when determining how much fuel to add during cruise conditions. It also uses info from it to alert you (cel) if the engine is running too lean on open loop fueling.
Without it, it's possible to run lean and melt pistons (even if you have your sump full of oil !)
