Have you tried using Subaru's official website and using thier approved used car locator? You might be able to bargain further if a dealer elsewhere is offering a similar spec. ca at a lower price. Howver, £17k for an 03 car looks good, based on the quick glance I did.

Gazza,
Tried that. Of course the prices are high but that relates to asking price. The reality is that people offer less and get them. Funny you say about comparing dealers but I am doing just that between two at the moment. Not even seen the cars yet!!
One of them does not have PPP. The dealer claims that this costs them near enough £2k which I find hard to believe.

Just sold my 03 sti (Not ppp)at the weekend, with immaculate prodrive 18's and prodrive suspension, dealer history (although the next service was due (£400))uprated pads etc etc 6months warranty remaining and in A1 condition. Managed to get £15500 for it from the first person that looked at it properly..
So if you can get a PPP car for 17k from a dealer with warranty , tracker etc thrown in for 12months, then you are doing okay IMHO..
BTW it had done 24k miles

Just traded in an MY03 Sti...30K got £13.5 for it....against new MY05....55 plate STi.
Lost about 5k . hadthe car only 6 months. Had lots of probs with the 03 but warranty fixed them, just lost confidence in the car. £800+ TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ...LOL
Dealer has now sold the 03 for 15.5k

If your patient there are some bargains to be had. I personally wouldn't pay dealer prices while a car still has some Subaru warranty left on it. I bought a 53 plate STI PPP for £16,200 two months ago and it had only 15,000mls on it.

Apart from that they are very reliable.
After 25k miles and just over 2 years of very enjoyable ownership, my suspension has been fixed as above and that's it. The best car I've ever had.
These are a very very good buy.

So in conclusion, if I want to buy from a garage and have 15 - 17k, then it may be a bit high but probably reasonable for a good one then?

Stephen, last week I bought a MY03 STi with PPP, and 18` Prodrive alloys on, for 17k from a dealer.
I, personally, think 17k is a reasonable price for a good one (same year obviously), as there is a lot of crap out there being advertised by dealers as mint, and when you get down there, it`s disappointing to say the least.
By all means go private and get a possible bargain, and if it`s still in warranty, why not, as long as you get it HPI`d, and fully checked over etc.
I had a part-ex, so I wasn`t able to do this, as I didn`t want the hassle of selling privately.
But anyway, as you can see, I think 17k is about right for a decent one.
Oh, and BTW, enjoy........................as they`re absolutely tremendous to drive.

back in august i had a clio 182 and was lookin for an 03 STI PPP.
the dealer offered me 8k for my 182 against a 18k 03 STI PPP, so 10k to change.
i stuck my 182 in autotrader for 4 weeks and it sold for 9.5k, i spent a couple of week looking at STI's and eventually found one on scoobynet which i knew had been looked after by a true enthusiast for 16k.
so i ended up payin £6.5k to change and thus savin myself £3.5k, and i ended up getting a car that i knew more about its history than i would ever know about buying from a dealer!
put the time and effort in and get a better deal imo.
my 2 penneth any way

The Subaru dealer in Falkirk has just called me - they just got one in this afternoon - mine for £17,495 apparently......... He tells me it was a gamekeepers car from up north somewhere. So if anyone in that area has just traded in this car (for a crap price no doubt) - please let me know. I am away for a look after work tomorrow (site vists me thinks...........) and I will see what nick its in. If it is minted (which the stealer has told me it is) then I will offer him something and we will see what happens.......... Oh yeah, 53 plate with 22,000 miles...........wr blue, ppp, 1 owner, FSSH etc

Just be sure to drive it before you buy, I went from a classic to an 03 STi and am most disappointed in the handling in comparison. It might be OK on a nice smooth track but on any of the real, fun, roads I drive the STi is far from fun.
Oh, and I've never known a gamekeeper to get paid enough to buy an STi :-)

Guys, the plot thickens, that car I mentioned with the 'dodgy past.' The salesman reckons he can get a copy of the invoice for the 10k service and will drop the price to £16,400.00 (hopefuly get him down even further!!)
Still reckon it is a bit dodgy, however it raises the question again about value. Any more thoughts? And anyone got one I can buy - I feel like a real p00f driving my wifes Ford Puma!!!!!
