I do about 75 miles a week ....... thats 2 Gallons.

1/4 of a tank is, what? 2.5 Gallons? So thats a stop at a petrol station once a week .... which is about right!

So? whats your issue, '****-for-brains'?

I know im new but this thread is hilarious. This pslewis guy is something else. Not saying he is right or wrong but he allways argues.

As someone else once said......Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics.......Even if you win you are still retarded.

She looked OK at the time, mind you, it was a while ago and i was only 13 at the time. She wouldn't stop going on about her poor son though. She said that he was so ugly she used to stand him in a corner and feed him with a sling shot.

I drove about 25miles with the light on driving from manchester. The car went into limp mode, ie full throttle didnt do anything as the car was low on fuel. At no point was the car going to blow up and when i got to the next available petrol station i filled up

£30 doesnt get you to manchester and back i found out though!

No, honestly, I get 38mpg regularly .............. it seems to have improved hugely since the 45,000mile mark.

It's really not difficult to do, I turn the engine off and coast whenever I can, I don't go over 2500RPM unless I really need to, I dont carry a full tank of fuel around, I make the missus catch the bus and meet her at the destination .... all very simple stuff!!

Are you basing your responses to this on a known fact or is this just your assumptions.

Why don't you Investigate it properly before slagging everyone else off.

gazman ............ think about it logically!!

Subaru design a car that has a fuel tank which 'apparently' has a major fault .... they continue with that design, issue no recalls and do not warn owners.

Some '*****' state that if you run the Subarus with under 1/4 tank of fuel and drive around a corner, then the engine will fail ..... PLEEEEEEEEZE use what god gave you between your ears and work it out for yourself ......... JEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZ!!

It is one of those myths that run on every BBS .... it is TOTAL, UTTER, COMPLETE CRAP!

Maybe it's because I am an engineer that it seems so simple to me .... if you are not an engineer then I suppose any pile of crap advice you need to take seriously - but, come on, engine failure due to driving around a corner?????????

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA BRILLIANT!!

No I am not an engineer Pete

I use this forum for general advice on my car.

However there are far too many debates on what is right/wrong, that is why technical issues need to be fact based

And most of what is between my ears regarding the Impreza is what I've read on this site

Yes, but surely your common sense tells you that a car cannot blow its engine at 1/4 tank if driven around a corner????????????

Do you not think that Top Gear would have got hold of it and taken the **** out of Subaru????

THINK for yourself sometimes .........

You see Pete, it's not about a strandard car going around a corner is it?

When on 1/4 of a tank I suffered/suffer from fuel starvation coming out of Quarry at Castle Coombe. Castle Coombe is a racing circuit Pete and Quarry is a longish right hander.

My car has a highly modified chassis and engine and wears semi-slicks on dry tracks. As a result it would benefit from a foam filled tank in the same way as the sump on my car is baffled. This is not special, nor is it uncommon amongst higly modified road and race cars. Why would you begin to question this when it's common knowledge amongst real motoring enthusiasts and proper drivers? This is of course a rhetorical question because I already know the answer. It's because you're a big fanny!

I asked that but it seems that chap needed to get to some half decent fuel and didn't know if what he had left would get him there.

im an engineer My pslewis, i have been for 20 years,I make parts for the A380 amongst some of the areoplanes in my list, now as you make a habit of arguing all the time lets try and put some "argument" in to the argument,

The fact that Subaru had a major flaw in the build of the fuel tank is not so,but when you look at the facts you are clearly wrong in some areas.

The hand book says there will be eight litres of fuel left when the light on the dash come on,when you look at the size of the fuel tank and by that i mean the actual size in inches, the size is what, lets say for argument sake 30" long and 24" wide by 7" in height, when you spread the 8 litres over that area you will have a depth of fuel possibly in the region of 1" or even less.
So when you go hard in to the corner as said earlier, the fuel may surge to one side ,maybe even away from the pick up pipe...who knows it may just lean out or just splutter or judder..this doesn't mean it will "fail" but could do damage.....You cant argue with the laws of physics...although with everyone else ,yes you can and will i suppose.
