All the anti bugeye stuff really gets on my t***!
(obviously i own one, lol)
At the end of the day any car that will do 0-60 in under 6secs as standard can never be called slow, granted there are faster cars but that can be said of almost any car, Classics are quicker as standard yes but that doesn't mean a WRX MY01 is slow.
Joney - I totally agree, fast cars are great but its not everything, i had a Pug 106 quiksilver (1.4) and altho it wasn't very fast at all i loved it!
C'mon the bugeyes!!

I guess my comment would be this.
I have owned my jap crap for 2 1/2 years now.
Things I love
1. Performance
2. Look and looks you get driving it
Things I hate with a vengance
1. Fuel consumption
2. Speed it goes through tyres / brakes
3. Cost of said items
4. The subaru jacket wearing image
5. depreciation
6. Insurance cost
The only question is how long the pros can outweigh the cons........
Scoobynet would be a very boring place without differences of opinion. Just so long as people dont get personal whats wrong with banter?

3. Look and looks you get driving it -the ladies seem to like it! Wasn't expecting that!
4. Price ( I got mine 2nd hand)

5. Fuel consumption
6. Corsas, Saxos, Novas, Mondeos, milkfloats tractors trying it on
...it does get very tiresome and some people drive very dangerously trying to induce you to race.
7. Sometimes it attracts the wrong sort of attention and you do get a bit paranoid at times.
8. Performance is addictive and you'll always want more!
9.The fact that no-one wats to give me free mods (see above)!! It gets rather expensive

im new here and was laughing my head off at this post, i presume your all talking about "bum fluff prems" who cant afford the insurance so only get to drive corsas, saxos etc...with neons and go faster stripes and tell there m8`s subarus are **** and they beat one on a country road because they have a k and n filter and a big daft zorst. the true fact is when your a wee spunk and new to the road...any car will feel fast. the fact is they would love to drive one, they cant coz of running costs and insurance premiums are sky high... so to ease the pain they call it but deep down they love them, its a kind of quick fix to help them along in life.

i had a bloke with a mk 3 escort, dampers so fecked that the car sat about 2" higher than normal and patches of grey primer all over the body work, tell me that his B-registered shed out-handled scooby's.
after i picked myself up off the floor with soiled pants from laughing so much, i suggested a swap with my evo 5, so i could find out what true handling was.
the world is full of dick heads - i have had both scoob and evo - both amazing, fortunately these chav ***** are unlikely to ever be able to get their sticky mits on such cars (unless they steal them first) and the procede to ruin them with a collection of Halfrauds additions.

The base Impreza turbo is a very quick car relative to quite a majority of cars available today, especially if you narrow that down to 4 door saloons.
However, when the base impreza turbo first came to the UK circa 1994/5 firstly it was quicker than the present day model, secondly it was devastatingly quick compared to pretty much anything available at the time.
Back to present day, not only has the base turbo become slower than before, but hot hatches are now back in favour and have become quicker and quicker. So much so that the Power To Weight (PTW) of the WRX and the Clio182 / CTRs etc are pretty much the same.
Back in the day the base Impreza turbo was the performance bargain, PTW of 175 BHP/ton where hot hatches struggled to get a PTW over 140, in fact hardly any car could match 175 - Fiat Coupe perhaps.
Present day and the base turbo is around 160 PTW, not only do the CTRs etc match this, but so do the top Vectras and mondeos. The WRX does not stand out as a car with perfomance punching above its weight anymore.
It still handles just as well if not better than the old turbo, its a more refined car, much better spec, safer etc. A much better owning prospect than the old turbo. Its a great car, but not as iconic as its predecessor, not as iconic as the new batch of Clios but a fantastic car nonethelss.
This is all PTW, throw in handling as well - any impreza inspires confidence and progress can be made swiftly - more swift than most cars given the same driver.
Its just in the case of the latest base turbos, they will be matched / humbled by an increasing number of cars from 60-100 on the motorway. But that scenario isn't what the impreza is about, but of course is exploited by cars with similar PTW and less drivetrain losses.
Which creates the Clio v Impreza threads, and more recently the French clutter threads![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
What makes me laugh is the Subaru have surely produced the slowest car of all time. Is there any current production car out there slow enough to lose to a WRX? thread is indeed a pisstake, but not at the WRX - its aimed at increasing number of " **** car beat WRX in a straight line once rolling" threads on the site.
FFS we know the WRX isn't as quick as the classics, and now there are cars that can match it in the same price range!
But sarcasm and satire can sometimes be missed by quite a few from both sides of the fence.
Newage WRX's are great cars, I wouldn't have one though

I think it mostly comes down to jealousy to be honest mate. Not many family saloons will outpace an Impreza, whether classic or Newage. The newage isnt a slow car anyway, what other cars can you buy brand that are faster, for the same money? not many i wouldnt have though!
Forget all the haters!!

No, I'm like most on this thread happy with the Scoob I've got, besides why on earth would I change a car which gets masses of admiring glances kids and dads alike to replace it with a car so common it's the modern day equivalent of the Ford Cortina (with apologies to anyone from the Ford Owners Club)!

I like Scoobs, but dont own one and nolonger would own one.
Love;
- the noise (very distinctive)
- performance (considering the price of the car)
- traction
- price - (dirt cheap for what you get really)
Hate;
- the image (not what it was, now seen as chav mobile/council estate special/meat-head mobile)
- the looks (ok blob-eye has grown on me, but classic now looks very dated and the less said about the bug-eye the better....)
Some people on here have mentioned 'admiring looks', but in reality the only admiring looks you get in a scooby these days are from groups of chavs hanging out on a street corner or the max-power posse in novas.
Nolonger seem to get the respect from enthusiasts like they used to, which is a real pity.

I used to have a classic which I loved and which was a fantastic and fun to drive car. I then bought an 03 STi and it is a disappointment as it is absolutely no fun to drive at all, on small bumpy twisty roads that used to be fun the STi is just alarming even when travelling slower than in the classic. When you factor in running costs such as insurance, tyres every 6,000- 8,000 miles and petrol at 10mpg or not much more except on cruising trips it is expensive (Though the classic was no different) for something that I know isn't as fun a car as my old classic was.
Now, in saying that, I don't hate my STi and on certain roads it can offer entertainment so I can understand why for perhaps the majority it might be OK. Day to day it is also a capable and sensible car let down only by a slightly harsh ride quality. However, these certain roads are not the roads I drive on for most of the time and so I would say that I was over the moon with my classic and I am somewhat disappointed with my STi. I believe that the 03 STi has fundamental handling flaws which Subaru have struggled to tame with repeated suspension "tweaks" on more recent models. I can't comment on how successful they have been in doing this but the STi is going soon ( It was actually my intention to be rid of it before now but life conspired against me) and I don't think I will be looking to Subaru for a replacement.
So, I certainly don't hate Subaru but for me the "new" STi was a significant step backwards compared to my classic. When I bought my classic people in some areas were waiting months to get a car and second hand ones were selling for almost new prices. My STi is worth next to nothing, no one is going to be throwing themselves at me trying to buy it and the shine has gone off the image of what was once viewed as a car for the keen driver. That seems to be the truth of the matter for some current owners and is based purely on their experiences with the cars.

I cant believe what a complete load of utter crap, ive just read on this thread .....
Whilst everyone is entitled to their own opinion, i too can see why people come onto scoobynet just to slag everything off.
Bug-eyes get slated
dump valves get slated
graphics get slated
optimax get slated
oils get slated
classics are now getting slated
05's get slated
mpg chat, gets gets slated
anything else ive missed off..??
I love my scoob (my93wrx) i dont want a newer one, because im happy with what ive got.
As organiser of the Blackpool Big One, we raised £650 for charity, thats shows the true spirit of the people on here. Im proud of my association to this forum, and the genuine community. People who come on here just slagging scoobs off and what people do to them, really pi$$ me off..... If you want to post nonsense, go posting into the muppet forum, at least you'll stand a chance of getting a laugh there. And leave the rest of the forum to, 'the enthusiasts'

well this will get flamed,
scoobys - very good cars for the money but
you have to realise their image has been beaten hard recently, They are becomming very common to see around, and they are not a compareble with the evo that costs a lot more mind.
if it was not for the stupid depreciation i would have a 04 ppp sti. (note im an ex scooby owner not some fuc*ing chav....

Which creates the Clio v Impreza threads, and more recently the French clutter threads
