Andy,

I can't see physically, how an enclosure would stop surge...... unless that enclosure reduced airflow by such a significant amount. But as you quite rightly pointed out.... I shouldn't assume anything, and this is forming one of the tests (and avenue's to explore) for Engine Stage 2.

I think it would be better off in the 'projects' section and non-sticky. Would create plenty of interest in there.

Its annoying we can't have stickies for FAQ and get asked the same things day in and day out, but seemed to have this project shoved down our throats.

Not taking anything away from you Shaun as I understand the work involved in such a project - I'm just telling it how I see it.

Agreed about the FAQ and Dyno side of things.... unfortunately I only have one pair of hands but the Dyno side (as promised earlier in the year) is something I intend in looking at and relaunching either towards the end of this year or the start of next year. As regards to the FAQ, this takes a considerable amount of time and effort and up to now I have no one volunteer assistance with this (unfortunately I am unable to do this on my own)..... are you offering?

Please also realise that the Official ScoobyNet Articles forum is not just about this modification suite of threads..... over time this will be the home of many other interesting Official ScoobyNet articles.

Personally (as I see it) I am not "shoving" anything down peoples throats..... as with anything in life you have a choice, you can either read it or skip it. Those that find it of no interest will skip it, while those that are interested will read it...... the same goes for any "Stickys" or "Announcements".

Just taken the time to read this lot.

Fab article, must have taken absolutly ages to pull it all together so concisely, and such a great starting car too.
Can personally vouch for Powerstation for suspension, so will eagerly await that article!
I would value a good explanation for the torque figure differences between PS and WRC RR's.
Although i have an Sti V3 hill climb/road car this kind of article is always interesting for the tech minded even from another series of the Impreza (they arn't so different?)

I have driven Litchfield's Type C (the black one) and that car is just so good, maybe Ian will let me borrow it for a hill climb or 3?

How did you not get similar figures, particularly torque, to Shaun I believe his made 408nm when totally standard and 441 with decat and panel filter ?

whoops looking at it now think i got the torque wrong.... was around 335 lb.... so whatever that converts too. will update with the actual result when im home later and post the dyno sheet..

my mods etc are not the same as shaun... i have H & S de-cat, induction kit and three port boost fitted above standard....

Nice one!

404nm is 297.4lbft

Just goes to prove though.... not all conversions with different parts used (however similar some people seem to think an exhaust is an exhaust, or a filter is a filter) deliver the same results.

may as well add..... it actually run 359 bhp yesterday but the air pressure correction took it back to 348....

Obviously you have problems reading what my article says?!

PS Remap
ScoobySport Exhaust
K&N Panel Filter
3 port Boost solenoid
Uprated Actuator

Gave at it's best overall (from the tests completed and for comparison here - TEST9)...
359bhp 353lbft (all corrected)

This is against what Spec'C' had which was....
PS Remap
H&S Exhaust
Induction Kit
3 Port Boost Solenoid

Gave a figure of.....
348bhp 335lbft

Not sure what calculator your using, but perhaps you should ask Father Christmas for a new one!

Get your glasses on Shaun and go back and read what you got before fitting the uprated actuator
By having a stronger actuator and increasing the duty cycle of the boost solenoid, it is possible to induce over boost
Which of course increases the torque peak. (but can overload the turbo so I don't use them)

So maybe test 4 is a better comparison ?

TEST 4 - As Per TEST2 plus Cone Induction Kit (standard sized MAF pipe) - Summary of Spec
Standard JDM Spec C MY03 Engine & Turbo
RCM Induction Kit (standard MAF pipe)
ScoobySport Twin Scroll De-Catted Exhaust System - 3" from turbo to backbox, no resonator, straight back box design
ECUTEK remapped ECU with basic UK Fuel map
Peak Boost - 1.50bar
Fuel - Optimax

TEST 4 figure achieved was 347.2bhp @ Flywheel with 453.2Nm (334.2 lb ft) torque

Almost identical

Ok... I know now since you edited your post.

TEST4 was done without any changes to the UK Fuel remap what so ever, so is not a fair comparison (even though based on that, it is still in my favour ). At that stage the car was still running a standard base UK fuel remap which was configured for nothing other than 2 1/2 Catted exhaust system and was part of the UK pack placed on the car some 2 yrs previous. The map was also very conservative (as commented on by both PS and also a couple of other tuners I discussed all this with).

Fair enough, when you said remapped, I assumed it was actually fully remapped to get the most from the mods at each stage, 'UK fuel' I presumed referred to the type of fuel you were actually running

Don't really see the point if you don't remap to suit the changes at each stage

As you may appreciate all these things take time and is was discussed that we wouldnt actually start to purposefully remap until we really had to (even though in normal circumstances, it would always be recommended to remap to get the best out of mod's).

While this may not of been ideal, it did illustrate the realistic gains acheivable by just installing the ScoobySport exhaust and K&N panel filter or Induction Kit (Standard MAF pipe) without any further mapping (up to and including TEST4).
