It'd be good to have a stated policy on the site regarding people's data, imo. Good luck with the project

Anyone else getting spam. Maybe this bloke is selling valid Email addresses. I would suggest not signing up until all those who have reply positvely or negatively

, maybe

I was just strange (and as a number of people have noted), that I never got any spam on my Email, then 10 minutes after signing it came through.

Just wanted to see if it was a problem, he could have been selling active email addreses.

Aren't there already things like this in place?

I have a diesel account card which I can use all across the UK I normally pay 3p to 4p less than the normal price. (currently paying about 89.5) I am sure there must already be something set up for petrol as well?

Signed up too - If Tesco can do 5p off I'm sure most of the others could... given a good reason!

I can assure you that is a coincidence, as PipelineCard is not and will not be spamming anyone.

It is similar to that, however it's for the consumer rather than the corporate!

It is also a discount card rather than an account card....

Ben, sorry, but I felt it was worth checking by asking everyone. As you are no doubt aware, their are a lot of scammers out their.

Good luck with your project, I'm sure scoobynet community will be behind you 100%. (well, maybe 99%, Mr Lewis is bound to frown on it )

I've registered, got to be worth a punt.

I'll pass the details on to my old forum, www.petrol&glueheads.gov.uk.

Like the saying goes, when something seems too good to be true, it normally always is. I aint leaving none of my details on a site that tells you nothing.
When its up and running i will look again.

there is one thing I don't get, but then I never studied economics.

Can someone explain where I am going wrong please?

The sticking point for me is, what's the point? why would the petrol companies bother offering a discount to a select few who sign up for a free card? If it is because it guarantees the custom of those who use the card, then surely, if they can afford to sell at those prices, why not just drop their prices to everyone.

If one company were consistently 5p cheaper than another, apart from starting a price war, surely that would be enough in its own right to guarantee the petrol seller a much greater share of the market.

I just don't see why they need to give a guaranteed negotiated discount that is only worthwhile to them when the numbers are over a certain level, when a global price drop would pretty much guarantee them that exclusivity.

so why do boots have the advantage card? same reason- they could just drop their prices by 1% but they choose to have a card instead which rewards those that shop there consistently.

quite why esso or shell would use this card rather than do one themselves, i don't know.
