Just to add, I forgot to mention that the owner of Sidelines will be at the NON-SIDC meet, kitted out with various performance upgrades, including Brake disc's, filters, etc.
These will be available for your perusal this evening and can also be viewed on various members vehicles and a Fully race prepared Hill Sprint Scooby .

Hope to see you all there tonight for a beer & a chat

Cheers Jacko.

Hi Pete,
to be fair, an ESSEX SIDC met is a bit like a bus wouldn't you say (few & far between)
Hence the reason for the alternative that has been running regularly for a few months now.

Sidelines: Too much healthy competition Pete?

As far as know, Sidelines is a new business "that strives to give the masses good endorsed products at NON-premium prices", as Darren Lloyd puts it!
Darren fully endorses Sidelines and I have had several communications via e-mail with him and seems very friendly and informative.

Cheers, Jacko.

Hi Jacko

LOL

Competition is a healthy thing, but I don't see an unknown retailer of drilled discs and cheap pads as a threat to what we are doing.

But then again I could be wrong. Perhaps this mystery man will join the SIDC, come along to a track day and pass me so fast that he'll suck bits off my car

What is a shame is that I have been forwarded several mails which were sent to people by Darren Lloyd, about the non SIDC meeting. All of his mails go into raptures about "our" company and their race/sprint/hill climb (changes every time) car. One mail I read went on about how fabulous its drilled and grooved discs were with its EBC green pads. Apparently they are much better than the Brembo kits my company sell !!!

ROTFLMAO Many people on this bbs have found this set up to last until at late morning on a track day.

Shame that an oppurtunity for owners to meet up has turned out to be a marketting exercise for a new company. In fact Darren would have to split his meeting away from the SIDC as this behaviour would not be welcome at a an SIDC meet.

If people approach me at a meet about something related to my business, I will always try to help, but regard these occasions as my time off when I can meet owners and just chat about cars/sport/life etc. I hope my integrity in such matters has always been recognised.

Hi Pete,
I couldn't agree more with your statement/fact that a meeting should be about people getting together, having a beer and chatting about their beloved motors and amusing experiences. It was just pointed out to me that I could see performance upgrade products in the flesh rather than on a pull down menu, if I had interest in them. Nothing was forced down me throat apart from a couple of beers and some scampi .

This is all well and good, but the point is, if such an event was to exist! As mentioned previously, Essex SIDC meets where never WELL supported/organised.

With the high population of Scoobs in the Essex area, it would make sense for this void to be filled and for a Scoob meeting to actually be held on a Regular basis!

There was an obvious/apparent lake of a Scoob meet in the Essex area, so it is only a matter of time until someone takes the initiative, something that the SIDC up until yesterday never undertook. It also seems a shame that it takes a situation like this to arise, to also substantiate the need for the club chairman to take the reigns at the risk of possible mutiny .

An emotive, enthusiastic, RELIABLE person was all that was needed to fulfil this role.

As far as the hill climbing car, I haven’t really got a clue what your on about to be honest Pete. I was just informed that a car such as this might of interest at this meet.
Brake disc etc, what are you on about. I fail to see the significance towards this topic in question (IS IT TRUE, Halfway House 2nd Thurs each month).

Cheers, Jacko

p.s. How did your meet go by the way?

Well said Jacko.

Another top meet was arranged by Darren and it was good to see all the new faces.

Some of the plans discussed for future events sound fantastic and I'll have to put my name down for then all!

There is no doubt that everyone who attended enjoyed themselves and I hope to see you all again soon.

Cheers

I agree with Jacko, it was nice to meet like minded people for a drink and a chat without the "LOOK AT ME and ALL MY TOY's" gang around. This is what a club meet is all about, bring the family and enjoy. Its nice to see Darren has some good ideas and he has my support.
SIDC has become a Track Day club and does not Mr Croney (The Chairman)promote his company at these sort of events and now someone dips thier toes in his pond he is a bit pi55ed.

Red face

wow!

I have been to several meets where Pete has been there as well. And to be honest, he is only ever run around like a blue **** fly making sure people are ok for maps for the treasure hunts and that we are happy and all ok.

For me (and the key to this) as I am sure people will agree was Trax 2000 when the SIDC did a fantastic job-including stef and the others, in running around in the sweltering heat making sure the members were all OK. Not once did I hear Mr Croney mention his company/products and I would say that given how much reputation that is built up for his company now, meets and track days do nothing for his companies exposure or help him sell any products. Most of us have a scoobysport product on our cars, and although I have spent no money directly with Pete, I would like to add that at no time has he ever talked to me like "Ronnie, we have this and we have that". Scoobysports reputation speaks for itself, the exhausts rock (I love mine) and I have never ever seen Pete "giving it large about his products". He is very dignified in the way that he approaches meets and I think people including the "Look at me, look at my toys" brigade will agree that this is purely nothing more than speculation.

Kind Regards
Ronaldo

Blimey Nate you seemed to have opened a can of worms by asking such a simple question!
Come on guys, to the general public we are just a bunch of sad gits driving too fast in noisey motors? Lets all be friends???
(Nate- Have you had adequate "compensation" from the occupants of the Fiesta yet? )

Ok, I think it's about time this thread was put to bed.

THE POINT in this thread is not about who's selling what, where and at what meet etc.
THE POINT is that an Essex meet is what the people want and an Essex meet is what they were getting but not with support anywhere from the SIDC.

I am an SIDC member and find it very frustrating that I joined a club expecting club meets at local pubs with family and friends. Not a meetings for Essex Bonnet boys racing round on tarmac waving 6-pot, lets see how quick I can sh@g my car up, flags

The SIDC looks a very organised club from the outside, nice glossy fanzine with some good text. Hell, even the new window stickers are ACE! But as far as an Essex member is concerned, it has lacked family meets, members wanting nothing to do with 'Tarmac Anoraks'

I agree with most. SIDC needs to pull its fingers out ASAP or some Essex members will not be renewing their memberships, which is a real shame.

Not arguing, just a disappointed SIDC member.

Jacko.

Jacko

Your point is very valid, but you have been miss informed by people with a vested interest.

Darren Lloyd has been organising the regular Essex meet for a long time now. Some meetings have been well attended, some quiet.

These meetings were always under the SIDC's wing and Darren wrote to me in the early days, asking for the details to be put in True Grip and forwarded to all SIDC members within reasonable distance.

The difference is that now he sees he has a captive audience for some companies products, he has disowned the SIDC.

Fact... the meetings were always SIDC meetings and were publicised as such, until the two weeks ago.

Fact... the SIDC is not a track club, nor is it a concourse club. It is a DRIVERS club.

Ok Pete, but I wasn't miss-informed because I was actually there on most occasions, with about 2 other SIDC members (if that!). Most were non-SIDC members but hey lets not start it all off again, eh

'NUF said', but one more ickle thing,
What plans as chairman do you have for future Essex SIDC meets then Pete?
Look forward in hope and interest.

JohnD,

Same as any insurance claim I think .............dragging their heels , I may suggest that it has to go in for repair this week , because of a forthcoming car show that my car is in (could be true).

Thanks for asking.

Jacko.
If you were so disappointed with the lack of Essez SIDC meets, why didn't you become the regional organiser?
The SIDC can only ask for people to help out organising local meets, we can't force anyone to do it. We are currently re-structuring the regions and their organisers so that members will know EXACTLY who to contact regarding meets/events local to them.
Such a role requires a lot of time and effort, and the club will do everything it can to help out.
I don't know this Darren fella, but if the meets have always been under the SIDC in the past and suddenly the organiser starts selling Scooby bits and disowns the SIDC it's a bit of a pity IMHO. From the posts on here it sounds more like a retail opportunity than a meet, but that's life I guess.

Liteboy.
The only marketing Pete does at SIDC events is drive his car very quickly. If this sells more Scoobysport products that's fine. Scoobysport seemed to do quite well before Pete became SIDC Chairman though .

Stef,
No disrespect dude, just to clarify, my previous notes detail me frustrations with the SIDC not anyone in particular. Pete sells some top gear and I only hear good things about track day organization (if that's what soaks your sponge!)
As mentioned previously, from the outside the SIDC looks like a nice glossy club, but in evidence would suggest the organization in the Essex area has been let down somewhat.
To quote, "I don't know this Darren fella, but if the meets have always been under the SIDC in the past and suddenly the organizer starts selling Scooby bits and disowns the SIDC it's a bit of a pity IMHO. From the posts on here it sounds more like a retail opportunity than a meet, but that's life I guess".
These meets were not under the SIDC, hell, the fella was NOT even an SIDC member, so how could he have been running an SIDC meet????
It seems that the SIDC made a slight oversight when selecting an Essex regional organizer. I don't know what administration errors the SIDC are undergoing, but perhaps it may be this apparent lack of support/organization that puts members off from taking said mantle? Who knows

I look forward to details on the re-org. Lets just hope this sorts my wingebagging out once and for all, eh? With such comments as, "Is it worth rejoining the SIDC if you live in the Essex area? (Excluding pain in the **** members like me ) "

WEBMASTER, please close this thread. This thread and I are becoming somewhat tedious and people are missing the point altogether

SIDC and Social meets, in the same sentance, nah, never

I'm not going to start another thread war on here, I've got my own going thank you very much!

Let's just say that in my opinion SIDC is trackday biased, and we'll have to wait, probaly another year until it's proved otherwise.

If it does change real soon I'll apologise for my remarks, and embrace the SIDC wholeheartedly

Marcus

19 scoobies at the last Halfway House meet and probably more at the next one. There is also the meet near the Black Prince on the A2.

Both of these are regular monthly SIDC SOCIAL meets.

I also suggest you check out James Harvey's Essex Meet thread, where you will find that he is sorting out a karting event. Details will be mailed out to all SIDC members in the Essex, Kent, Herts and London areas, although members from other areas are more than welcome to field a team. Perhaps you will be putting a team together too?

I note that you are organising SIDC attendance at the Bentley Wildfowl Museum Porsche owners club event. When you consider that everything the club do is done by members on a voluntary basis, perhaps the line is "not what my club can do for me, but what I can do for my club".

Personally, I salute all of the hard work done by the SIDC Regional Organisers.

So don't bring your cheque book, your presense and tales to share with fellow enthusiasts, over a pint, is all that is required.

Out of interest Jacko, I've never heard of Sidelines so who is this mysterious owner?

All meets now need a cheque book, card or cash now
