I would never have thought (even without any CPU limitations) that a 9800 pro could look at Fear at those sort of resolutions. I have a similar system, amd 3200 with a 9700 pro, I gig of fast ram in dual channel and it grinds to a halt in Fear even without any AA or AF

Hmm InvisibleMan, I'm not saying you are being overly optomistic, but I just read a couple of tests in Custom PC mag. Fear at 1600 X 1200 4x AA & 8x AF, tested with the latest all singing and dancing X1800XT, FX-55 overclocked to buggery and a A8N-SLI with 2 Gig of OCZ Platinum "only" gets 46 fps. If you can get that with your setup and a 9800 pro I want some tips pleez m8

Or does your post above mean it's not a 9800? Confused now

46!! thats high... someone with 2x 7800GTX's at 490/1300 ish + FX57@3Ghz was getting similar .. min frame rate is in fear is hugely limited by the CPU.

Yeah I know, FEAR is just about the ultimate PC crusher at those sort of settings. I'd think COD2 and Doom 3 (for open GL) are about the only other games that will test a top flight PC. Those FX chips are beasts as well, why I was hoping Invisibleman would give me a few tips

Personally I will *never* buy another FX chip, bought the FX53 last year and it wouldn't budge overclock wise, even via the multi - but that was a 130nm Clawhammer. Tis pot luck with overclocking - but these new 90nm chips seem to be doing very well!

Well I'm hoping for great things OC wise from the X2 3800 I've bought, especially on the A8N. I've also bought a new Antartica water block for the chip, so we'll just have to see. I hear they run well at 2480MHz core clock speed, 930MHz HT speed (HT reduced from x5 to x3), and 310MHz (DDR620) memory speed, all without water cooling.

Yep, the X2 3800's seem to overclock well in general, have fun with it
