Theyre both the same and yes you can:

GC8 2000cc Impreza saloon
C The model year identifier; Subaru made 2 C-Series car just to confuse us 1995 and 1996*
4 The number of doors
8D WRX
7D WRX Type-RA
ED STI
DD STI Type-RA

The 1995 STI Type-RA was altered from a production WRX -Type-RA and it shares its AMN: GC8C47D
The 1996 STI2 Type-RA was a series production car and as such, it has its own unique AMN: GC8C4DD

Simon

* refers to the model year which is built between September and August usually, so a MY96 car may have been built in September/October 1995

Series-A MY93
Series-B MY94
Series-C MY95
Series-C MY96 AKA Series-C2
Series-D MY97
Series-E MY98 etc

I don't understand!

Why has the MY95 and MY96 got different AMN when they're the same car? And why is the MY95 more powerful? You said it was 280PS?

ok my number is

GC8C47D

So if I'm reading this right I have a:

GC8 2000cc Impreza saloon
C The model year identifier; Subaru made 2 C-Series car just to confuse us 1995 and 1996*
4 The number of doors
7D WRX Type-RA

Which now confuses me (sorry!)

I thought I had a wrx sti ra

It says STi all over the place, even on the carbon strut brace lol.

Why do you say that the 1995 car is more powerful? They were both officially quoted by Subaru as having 275PS

It's not an STI then as the AMN indicates a WRX.

And Simon, you said

Alex; you need to read everything that Ive written ffs! The 1995 cars were retro-converted from WRX Type-RAs and thats why they still retain the standard Type-RA's Applied Model Number; if it has a roof vent then it is a 1995 STI Type-RA.

If you look youll see that I clearly said that just above:

They are not the same car the 95 sti ra is a modified wrx ra so shares the amn (GC8C47D), where as the 96 sti ra is a full production model and has its own amn (GC8C4DD).
Power wise the 96 sti ra has 275ps ans the 95 sti ra also has 275ps

Probably been asked before but howcomes a newage STI only has 265bhp and yet the classics had more?
Surely this is a bit odd, having a heavier car with less grunt?????????

Can anyone tell me why etc,

STI Type-UK. A JDM STI still has 280PS iirc.

Dave; the reason that I referred to the power of a standard Type-RA was because you referred to the car as a 'Type-RA'. Had you referred to the car correctly as an STI Type-RA then that wouldnt have come about.

Like i said, those that have got them say STI RA, everyone else says RA. RAs are cack anyway - keepfit windows and i could lighten an STI more by having a dump.
