The thing with defence software is the amount of rigorous testing it has to undergo. Doesn't make the original code "better" or more complex, just that it's "tested to destruction" to ensure no critical defects.
While testing is absolutely necessary, it can be make s/w dev quite tedious, and the actual amount of code written by engineers is very low for the industry as a whole. Therefore, most find it banal, and that's not great for motivation/development.

We rely heavily on software written for our fire control computers, without them we would not achieve a 97.5 percent hit rate at 2000m.
and with the developement of new projectiles comes new firmware/software
that said, the boys did their home work as we were knocking kit out at plus 4000m
Good ol Vickers BAE land systems or whatever they are these days
Add to that we have the best thermal imagery, NBC, Armour, Anti Armour, Radar in the world i think our companys and boys behind the lines do a fekin good job
