Come on Michael; he was crap and he knows he was crap; leave him alone now!

After reading your description Im convinced that traction was finally broken when the car came on-boost: but rather than this being the cause of the accident I think that it was the final contributing factor and that you wouldnt have thrown it at the scenery, had you not made other mistakes too.

It does indeed.........cause i'd doubt you'd say it to my face?

Unless it makes you feel clever so you can't put anything constructive down?

Ive tried to be constructive in all of my posts. When everything else is marginal the extra torque at the driven wheels is more than enough to break traction.

I'm not the one who decided to be the muppet fella.......
and the fact you wouldn't say it to my face would mean not to say it at all wouldn't it?

Now you're trying to make me look like the fool when you had to log on, get touchy cause you found a post about me having a pop at your beloved subarus handling and to defend your cars honour by coming out with something so funny as to calling me a gimp. (Original and hilarious by the way) When all I was trying to find out why my car did what it did, see if anyone else had a simliar accident and maybe find a solution.

But as you're so clever as to call me a gimp how about I try it your way?
ahem.......

Ha ha ha ha......Mr big fella....your mrs been talking again?

Did it slide in the direction of the opposite lock (in which case you didn't wind it off quickly enough) or was it just continuing in the direction of the spin no matter how much opposite lock you applied? In the latter case, too much power for the available grip was the prob -as someone else as said, often happens when the car comes on boost- a little lift off the power and getting ready to unwind the lock would have most likely worked.

Easy to be wise in retrospect though! I think the vast majority would have suffered the same outcome. To be honest, if you hit diesel or ice, playing with the pedals and steering often only serves to give you something to do before the inevitable spin!

It just continued to spin no matter how much op lock I applied.....
My problem was I was told if the car does start to go, to have more faith and keep the power on.
So now a little lift will be my new approach.....

cheers for the advice (not that I plan to do it again)

It's not quite that simple: its true that AWD only gives you a traction advantage when applying power, so coming off the throttle completely won't help, esp if you've got opposite lock applied. However, there are limits, and if you go to crazy with the throttle, then you'll overwhelm the available traction and spin. You have to modulate the throttle such that the car regains purchase and relase the oppposite lock so that the front wheels are pointing the right way when they regain grip.

Easier said than done though! Even people with mighty car control e.g. (rally drivers) make a pigs ear of it at times and thats under controlled conditions not the road.

Aiming not to do it again -at least not when anyones about and there are curbs around that will hurt the car if you get it wrong- is definately the way to go!

Hope it doesn't cost too much to fix.

Just out of interest, how long have you had the car and what was your previous car?

Do you mean Z3 M?

Just wondered, because the Scoobs are a fairly heavy car, and on any greasy road coming into a corner or roundabout too fast will mean the car will lose traction partly due to the weight & momentum (& laws of physics). Putting loads of power on will just make things worse as you've found out.

As a basic rule of thumb, until you know where the "breaking" point is IE: where tractions is about to be lost, when cornering... slow in, fast(er) out.. not half way round.

Just to echo some other points mentioned by other people already, these cars do (as opposed to popular belief) need some respect, they arent fool proof

Hope you get it fixed and back on the road soon.

Tipple O G, hello mate

Think I was chatting to you the other night at the small RX7 meet before those ******* pikeys turned up and we all shot off.

Only just seen this thread, sorry to hear about the accident fella, if the weather was anything like it was the other night then the roads were very slippery, I was lighting up all 4 wheels on the way home in 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a straight line Saying that, sometimes it does that in the dry as well

At least the damage isn't too bad, could have been a lot worse.

Got your downpipe and ecu sorted yet?

Hello fella!

Yeah I would have got to Macky d's sooner apart from taking the wrong exit, going all the way down the M11, turning round and coming back

Yeah it could have been a lot worse but hey, only a couple of weeks off the road if i'm lucky....

Well I would have done the down pipe and got it mapped but as the funds are now going on "repairs" I think i'll be waiting till next year.......
Are you going on this tunnel run?

PMSL, wondered where you got to, think you arrived at McD's after I'd scoffed to big macs and was just leaving LOL

What's the tunnel run

My car is out of action at the moment, having vast amounts of defi products and a few other bits and pieces fitted. Probably won't have it back for another couple of weeks.

The MRC are supposed to be going on a tunnel run........where they get to make as much noise as possible....

So getting it slightly tricked then?
Out of curio.........i've got the defi pod but i've heard you can get a matching stand alone, black face defi rev counter with shift light??

Who's the MRC ?

Yep, pimping the inside a bit, got 4 Defi BF guages and a Defi HUD which is Also fitting a new boost controller

Don't know if Defi do a rev counter, get a HUD instead, projects speed and revs or boost, oil pressure, etc direct onto the screen.

Sorry to hear about smash, glad you ok and not too much damage done, after rolling mine last year doing 50mph bet it could have been much worse.

have to say my current one (not the one i rolled, but now a standard uk turbo suspension wise) is very twitchy, mainly under braking, had back end go out on me twice, once was dry day and it snaped back again when i noticed it going and put opp lock on, the second time three days ago doing 10mph (yes 10) when i pulled out of a t junction when lights went green (didn't floor it cos was still warming car up) but that was obviously black ice.

if its gonna go, its gonna go, no matter what speed your doing

nothing mechanical went to cause it did it? mention that cos read you got rear ended not that long ago.

mine goes in for new suspension, whiteline antiroll bars front and back, alloy drop links front and back, anti lift kit and uprated steering rack bush's tomorrow so should be much much better, deffinate must for em has to be said.
