Im confused Bob. What I have said is that what youve been told about an ECU re-set is broadly correct; however, the person who told you was wrong to state that the ECU would learn on its own, it wont. Old ECUs like your only adjust downwards, they cant advance the ignition when better fuel is added. So an ECU re-set is the only way to benefit from better fuel; as opposed to a quicker way to benefit; with me?

Id disconnect it overnight; its located in the passenger side footwell. The ECU will start with a greater advance and slowly retard as it detects knock; it can only retard, it has no way to advance so itll be able to benefit from higher octance fuel that will run with more ignition advance.....

Top one simon, thanks for all your info its fantastic!

So it will start with a greater advance, how should the car be driven once the ecu has been reset...start slowly and build her up then give her a quick thrash?

Hi, ive been reading some posts on ecu resetting, ive come across 3 options, i need to know if they all work or which is best.

1) disconnect battery and leave it for a few hours then reconnect.

2) disconnect ecu and leave for a few hours then reconnect.

3) plug green and black connectors together press acelerator etc....then disconnect
green and black connectors.

now the easy option would be the battery option, so why would people use the other harder ways????

thanks

bob

Have always used the "connector" way meself, just preference i spose.
The 2 black conns together give any fault codes.
The green ones together will reset ecu.

Trying to find the site with full routine.

Hi chaps, well i done my ecu reset this morning...put the connectors together switched the ignition on then i could hear clicking and other noises coming from around the dash area, done the accelerator then started her up and took her for a drive..after about one minute the cel light came on and was pulsing steady with no time lapses. i presume there is no faults. whatever its done it seems to be running very smooth with no cel light coming on as yet.

1) Can anyone tell me if this is the correct way ?

2) Can anyone tell me if the flashing after 1 min driving is the correct way to identify fault codes, mine had none!...it pulsed with no gaps ????

Bob
