true true..
AndyF has proved the validity of TMIC.. albeit you need a decent one

I spent a fortune on my HKS FMIC when in hindsight I would have been better off with an Sti8 TMIC and I was around 345/330..
not that it matters now.

That performance comes at a cost and unless you are skillful, lucky or Bob then you should save your pennies if you want to go quick!

I disagree Floyd. My engine has had 14000 reasonably hard miles and no probs so far. Although the engine has been in two different cars.

You seem determined to disagree with what I'm trying to say here. I would not advise anyone who wanted to know how to get 350bhp that they stick with the MY99 TMIC even if they could not afford a better one. I'd say wait until you have everything for a safe package before building.

I have no reference point for what you consider are reasonably hard miles either.

some cars are just freaks when it comes to power of speed but im sure when it comes to mapping if the car has a standard 99/00 uk intercooler on the mappers wont make it boost too high, which will then limit the power ??? but dont quote me on it

I was disagreeing with the "it will only last five minutes" statement. I agree with a front mount is the better option and if cost was not an option to get one straight away. But as I said before I dont think a 350bhp car and a top mount is an all out risk. Sorry for the confusion it must be the way I word things.

As for hard miles, atleast 7500 revs in every gear at every sensible opportunity for approx 14000 miles

Daz, would you drive it has hard, with a standard UK top mount if the internals were NOT uprated, and would you believe 350 is achievable if you DIDNT have ported heads?

It would be interesting to monitor your intake temps before you switch to a FMIC.

A good point. I probably do rely on the fact the internals are uprated.
Also the heads aren't just ported they are STI vers 6 heads too. There supposed to be a few standard UK lumps running standard internals with 350-400 bhp. Just with bigger turbos.
It would be interesting to see perpsectives from those with turbo upgrades, fueling upgrades but still running top mounts.
I seem to remember an artical in JP of a Version 4 sti running standard engine standard top mount and a Garret IHI hybrid. This was done by RCMS but power was capped to 360 bhp at 1.35 bar IIRC.

Dont get me wrong I am not advocating a TMIC over a FMIC its just sometimes we cant afford to get it all done at once and yes I will be getting a large FMIC soon.

I run a TMIC here in Switzerland because the police will impound my car if I fit an FMIC! I run a td05/06 and 4 bar atmo fuel pressure plus normal supporting mods. The standard TMIC is much better at controlling heatsoak issues than the APS aftermarket item I tried. Intake (TB) temps over summer never went over 60 degrees, think I saw 78 degrees with the APS after fitting the 6MT and giving it 20 minutes of abuse. Power is somewhere between 350 and 380....not measured on a dyno, but using AP-22. Timing is adjusted for worst case temps, so an FMIC would allow me to run more power due to more consistent, and lower, TB temps.
