Thumbs down

At the end of the day, when your time is up, it up. Nothing you or anyone else can do about it.
OK .....

but would you bother looking before crossing a busy road

What I mean is..... obviously your statement is true, but most people take sensible precautions to avoid premature death, you look before crossing a road, you buy grippy tyres, you make sure your car is safe, you possibly exercise and eat a healthy diet......

....and then you play russian roulette with smoking

When I was a smoker, I knew the dangers to me and my family.

There are warnings on the packets, warnings on billboards, warnings on television advertisment, I'd seen how it has affected my dad's heath (poor circulation and high blood pressure), I had read about the damage it will do to an unborn child as my wife was carying our daughter, I read about the long term damage I would do to my daughter if I smoked around her, I read that nicotine could be detect in a childs urine if the parent smoked (even if it wasn't in the presence of the child), I knew it made my clothes, breath, hair and hands smell, I could see it would stain my teeth and skin, I knew it burnt holes in my clothes, carpets, cars, etc, I could work out how much money it was costing and has costed me, I could see I was spending money on accessories like lighters, matches, chewing gum, mints, etc, I knew I was lying to my parents who were dealing with my father's health issues, I knew I was lying to my wife as I told her I hadn't smoked that day, I knew I was potentially destroying my daughter's health even though she hadn't been born, I could see it beginning to affect my health with constant sinus infections and wheezing at minor excercise, but most of all I was lying to myself with thought that I would and could give up smoking after this packet.

I knew of this, but I still smoked.

I guess there will come a time when you want to give up, and when that time comes you will realise it's not difficult, it doesn't take a great amount of will power, that nicotine will clear from your system quickly, and the reason you will want a cigarette a majority of time is because of an association you have made with that in the past (stress, drink, relaxing, etc) but not because you are addicted!

I don't consider myself an ex-smoker, I see myself as a non-smoker. I knew I had to quit smoking, but it was only recently that I decided that I *WANTED* to quit smoking.

My mother had been smoking for 60 years @ 40+ **** a day, when after a short stay in hospital she just stopped. She used patches for a few weeks and that was it.

I thought she would never give up, but to my families shock, she did. My mother has damaged lungs and heart problems due to the smoking.

If a person who has smoked for that long and so many **** can give up, then anybody, who wants to, can do the same.

"Russian roulette" that is my choice to do so. You and I may both look before crossing that busy road but just because you look, does'nt mean you wont get hit. Regardless of how safe and cosy you try and make your world, Ultimately you have no control of the innevitable. If you did, people who eat the right food, excersise and do not drink or smoke would'nt die young.
Each to their own at the end of the day.
