Default Ford Focus ST (225bhp)

Guys I've actually driven a Focus ST (Ford track day as my company has a fleet of Ford I got an invite).

Handling is miles better than a LCR, but when pushed into a corner is does understeer (heavy engine I guess). The FST gets the power down very well, bit nowhere near the front wheel traction of a Focus Rs or the Honda Accord Type R as these have helical LSD. In truth if you hammer the trottle in 2/3nd gear it just wheel spins. I think for £17.5k for the base model it's amazing value, the leon Cupra R was great value at one time (18k for 225bhp), but the the car did not inspire confidence that it could handle 225bhp where as with the Ford ST you feel confident to let the turbo spool.

I think it's unfair to compare the FST with a Subaru as 4WD traction will win wet and dry, off the mark and through the gears (Fact), you should compare the FST against other FWD cars, then compare the WRXs (and Sti) against like 4WD cars.

4WD cars are easy to drive fast, but I would finish by stating I think the Ford ST inspires confidence, most FWD with over 200bhp are scarey.

Yes I like the new Focus ST (but I love my WRX MY05 even more it's personal taste).

Have to say [numskull]Uhhhhhhhhhhhh[/numskull], think we already covered that, of course Impreza's understeer. The 'bulldust' as you put is it is the very real problems front drivers have putting down the power at whatever throttle opening in marginal conditions. I'd love to buy a Focus ST, Octavia VRS, MKV GTi or even a 147GTA at a push. Unfortunately for 10% of the yr they'll be useless to me and have to be parked at the bottom of the road while my neighbours in their Xtrails and X5's smugly drive past. Not going to happen any more I've had enough! WRX 5 door is the only real answer in my price range as PPP Foresters seem impossible to find.

Presumably when the next RS comes out it will have 4wd and probs about 300bhp. Now that will be something to give the STI problems. Although my WRX will still blow it away.

I must admit that's the one that'll interest me... I still just don't like FWD. Ford made big noises that the new Focus would allow 4wd - well, they made a big thing that the old chassis wouldn't support it - so it must be a question of time. Either way, I guess that an RS will be considerably more than 17 grand.

I had a Focus RS for a year before my 02 STi with PPP and Prodrive Suspension and the cars do not compare im afraid...STi everytime...... I think the FST will be too refined and not 'raw' like scoobys are which is what i like.....definatley going to try one and see though......I have always had fast fords- Escort Cossie, Racing Puma, RS2000 4x4,ST24, ST220 and it will take something special to go back to a Ford.....

You can get it in Black, Red, Silver and white
And ok its not a 4x4 but its still very fast as 2 wheel drives go
I was woundering if this car may even be faster and handle better than the Scoob and I too have wonted a Scoob for a long time and see the ST ok its a Asbo mobile from Dagenham but if you had the choice of a brand new car with zero miles on the engine or a used Scoob that has say about 50k on the clock but for the same money which way would you go
Its a tuff one is all I can say

I never claimed it was. Please read posts properly b4 you respond. I said it was the better proposition for me, taking several factors into consideration. I only made reference to the BMW to show that i did have 1st hand experience in driving one. BMW diesel may be betters drivers car than Audi but that means eff all, as it is still is pishy diesel and a BMtroubleyou to boot and a crap drivers car compared to scoob. Read thread, think, then respond.

I Dont know what all the fuss is about.I work for ford and we have just had delivery of a blue focus st, yes it looks nice and drives well but i dont think its anything to shout about, i would much prefer a scoob any day.I also thing the new astra vxr has better looks to, also have you noticed that the focus rs wheels look similar to the vxr wheels.

Yeah FWD is dangerous.........and RWD is a death trap.

We're all going to crash and die unless we subscribe to AWD.

How ridiculous that I would think you were trying to imply the Audi is a better drivers car from this:
