nope - I was sh1ttin meself when I was letting it down - just waiting for a massive bang and my legs to disappear. Seems that tyres are made of sturdier stuff though - standard setting on the motorhome are 80 at the front and 85 at the back.

hmmm - I wonder how much pressure you could get in a tyre before it blows

My local Optimax garage (which also has a Subaru main dealers on site) also does this. It saved me once when I went out on the bike with just a £20 note and my keys in the pocket of my leathers, it just had to roll on to £20.01 - i felt like a right crim walking into the station without enough money to pay!

I stuck 2p in the dish next time i was in there though.

Now had it been your lady that had done that she would never hear the end is my guess! Still chances are she wouldn't have a clue what to do in the first place

I just put the nozzle in the tank, hold it open until it clicks off, then pay for it by card. At Tesco now I don't even have to go to the kiosk, just swipe the card through the pump and fill up.

If you prefer for some reason to always pay by cash, why not just make a point of putting in, say, £19.95 worth? So what if you get a few coppers in change?

Pre-pay would be a dreadful idea; suppose you pay for £45 worth but only get in £40 before the tank is full. At best you have to queue up again for your change. Worse still would be if you queued up to pay £40, then again for another £5, then again because you only got another £4.37 into the tank and have 63p to collect. What a waste of time.

The only time to ever buy petrol £20 at a time is if it's not your own car.
I always put £20 in, for a couple of reasons. I only do about 5k miles a year at most, so £20 will last me a fortnight, secondly if you fill it to the brim and someone nicks your car they have a full tank to play with.
