Got to say that it's one album I still can't get into. Compared to their first two which were superb from start to finish, X&Y was a very poor show I thought. Speed of Sound as a single was great, I thought if they're all like this on the new album then we're in for a treat. But then came the next single 'Fix You' which didn't even seem to be a complete song (to me at least) and the only other track I liked off the album was the one that reminded me what groundbreakers Kraftwerk were and I turned the Coldplay CD off half way through and stuck on 'Computer Love' instead LOL

But then it happens all the time I suppose. I remember listening to one of the Groove Armada albums. I can't recall the name, might have been the first one. Anyway, I was gobsmacked to suddenly hear a straight rip-off of Alexander Robotnick's 'Problemes D'Amour' from '84 or '85, sometime around then... I only pick on that particular example because it's is one hell of an obscure track that not many would know.

And it's only cos I recognised it, I thought, Groove Armada, you cheeky buggers, I bet all these 'youngsters' listening to this will be thinking what great musicians you are when in fact all you've done is remove the crazy French voiceover and the rest of it is pretty much the original. I'll just go and have a look actually...got it... It's 'In My Bones' off of the 'Vertigo' LP

The same 'logic' also applies to books, plays and films. We need a whole new type of entertainment.

If you really have to know, I was thinking about the guitar solo in the Muse song thread and how some of the notes and progressions sounded like the Radio Ga Ga solo and then I remembered posting something along the same lines, went looking for it and came across this. There.

Prepare that hat!

Has no one noticed the similarity between 'Fix You' & 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'?

Same sentiment ,same structure, same piano. The way the song builds.

Please can someone listen to both songs. It can't be just me.It just appears so obvious to me.

Not true of the pop industry but certainly true in Jazz

I would hazard a guess that every single progression has already been done, it's the stuff on top that makes the songs / tunes different

Music just goes full circle , there are many covers of covers
And new lyrics to old tunes
Some artists that are quite original often don't get credited with it because of their pop type tunes or appeal to a younger generation
Prince is a classic example , a bit of an oddball maybe
But a talented musician
As for literally running out of music ie combinations of notes / chords ect , it may already have happened but you will never know

happened years ago, almost every modern song is a cover or rips something off from an older song

Has every genre of music now been invented though, that's the question.

Emeli Sande is also a breath of fresh air ,She has written for Cher Lloyd,Alesha Dixon, Cheryl Cole, Tinie Tempah, Mutya Keisha Siobhan, Susan Boyle, Gabrielle, Preeya Kalidas, Rihanna and Leona Lewis, to name a few as well as her own award winning Album.

I was lucky enough to see her on the 6th of this month. She had a crack 7 piece band 3 quality backing singers 1 dress and over a hour and a half of quality entertainment. She has restored my faith in music.

Anyone any idea as to when the world will run out of original songs?
