ok given the revised brief
the tree makes sound but as sound is interpreted by the ear/brain as noise it doesnt make any noise as there is noone available to convert the sound to noise

ahh in that case they'd feel the sound but not hear the noise
therefore once again no noise

Leave a perfectly decent question laying around on a quiet news day and the muppets jump all over it in seconds like a pack of hyenas.......

*cough*
par·sec (pär'sĕk')
n.
A unit of astronomical length based on the distance from Earth at which stellar parallax is one second of arc and equal to 3.258 light-years, 3.086 × 1013 kilometers, or 1.918 × 1013 miles.

Radio waves are a form of radiant energy - therefore they do not need a medium to travel through

Oh, and a Parsec is a unit of volume - one cubic light year - not time either. I know nobody mentioned it but...
Are you sure? I seem to remember, years ago doing "A" level maths, when a parsec was described as the distance from the point of an angle of 1 minute to the outer edges once they were 1 light year apart? Can't remember exactly how to describe it.

Isn't it horrible when you post JUST after someone puts the exact information up before you post asking for it?

Speed of sound is only 340m/sec in air of an ICAO standard atmosphere. Sounds travels a lot fast in water and really really fast in steel for example.

Generally the denser the material, faster sound travels and also the less energy required for a given distance. Vacuum of space isn't very dense material wise, so sound doesn't travel very fast and also requires huge energies because of the distances.

So I'm told....

Cool square or round?

The parsec, measured from an interstellar vehicle, is a spherical quantity.
Therefor the formula would be followed with the 4/3 pi x the radius cubed.

Why would you measure to the square corners of that area that contains your vehicle??

Just another minor question to consider.

Because light speed is...the speed of light!

Light year is...the distance something travelling at light speed covers in a year!

Got it?

Good

Parsec per sec is quick.
Speed of light is just another barrier to be passed through.
I remember all the mathamaticians that said "Speed of Sound"couldn't be broken, they also had figures to "prove" their hypothesis.
It was the hesitation as you reached Mach 1 that caused the problem. If you continued to accelerate and passed through the "barrier" or shockwave you were OK.
I think it will be the same when we achieve Light Speed and go beyond.

Radio waves travel at the speed of light regardless of the strength of the power source. They do get weaker though and that does depend on the transmit power.

Sound needs a medium such as air to travel through, as was said above.
