I agree, people in the street are far more likely to point and laugh and think what a prat boy racer.

I think the stickers look a bit stupid but if people like doing it then where is the harm. Sort of reminds me of when I used to make airfix models of stuff like the Stratos and Integrale when I was a little kid. We could all probably benefit from a dose of that kind of youthfull enthusiasm so let 'em get on with it.

This rates as the second most ridiculous question, just behind "Why've you put a turbo bonnet on your sport?", usually asked my people with an STi spoiler on a UK Turbo...

No hang on here sonny!

Thats totally unfair, having a badge is a tad different to BIG stickers

This company will pay you for adds, now chances of them being to a Subarus liking are very low but you never know!

I've joined up on the off chance subaru wants to sponsor me

What evidence are you basing that on? Just curious, wondered if you had conducted a survey on the subject or summat!

Most people here think pslewis is a **** but I don't need a 'survey' to back that up

I've NEVER seen anyone on the street point at at stickered and spoilered up car go "oh, cool" apart from children. I have, however, seen many adults make comments such as "oh dear", "prat", "kids, eh!", "boy racer" etc. etc. etc.

I've got nothing against people doing this sort of thing, fair play to them, however let's not be under any illusion that it's something that most people would like. Most people will think it's tacky, naff, childish, boy racerish etc. I think you'll find that if you do any sort of representative "survey" you'll find out that that's what the survey will say as well.

I presume these would be the same sort of people that consider anything bigger than a standard exhaust to be 'chav'? I see your point and I agree its not the sort of thing that the majority of adults would look on in awe, but god help me if I ever end up being such a boring old fart that I poke fun at anyone that does something mildly different!

You're pathetic!!

You couldn't help but have a little dig then run away - posts 3 and 33 don't really share the sentiment quoted above.

what the f..k has it got to with anyone what i do to MY car ?
if i want stickers on MY car then i shall have stickers on MY car

if i want to freely advertise people or products on MY car then i will

bob rawle and pavlo helped me out big time so i WILL advertise them by having stickers made up with there web addresses on them because I want to have them on MY car

GET IT ???????????????

you don't like it,then don't look !!!!!

but here it is , , , ,

it was stickered up for ME because I want it to look this way !!!!!!!

and before anyone calls me a ''chav'' or similar, let me remind you i'm a 35 year old business man NOT from essex and what i do to MY car is f..k all to do with anyone.

why people have to slate others like me is beyond belief

I probably am, however I was hardly 'running away' as it'd be pointless to litter posts 4 to 32 with my points, I left them for others to put theirs in (or do you think I should post every other seocond just to illustrate that I'm not 'running away' ). And I think you'll find that the majority of the adult population agree with my sentiments, NOT those of this thread. Besides, I didn't see the post that asked for our thoughts but only if you are 'pro-stickers'. All that happened is that I gave the thread a bit of perspective. Anyway, I've not said people shouldn't have stickers. All I've said is what the manjority think. I hardly think the cars I have would be approved by the majority either, but at least I've the good grace to accept any pi$$taking and banter that goes with it.

Anyway, if you can't see that it's a bit of harmless banter then you need to chill out mate.

You're right Homey, I wouldn't, but given that I'm always keen to find out what makes people tick, I may ask the question on a clothes forum.

Its hardly banter, perhaps if a week went by without at least one 'stickers' thread of whatever description be it in here or in the members gallery etc then you may well be able to class it as banter. But you can't even mention stickers on scoobynet anymore without at least one tw@t coming out with something along the lines of "I hate stickers WTF do you want them for?"

FFS if we all did what the majority of the adult population thought best we all may aswell sell the scoobs and buy sodding people carriers or whatever.

Calm down dears, i just re-read the first post and i'm struggling to see where he is slagging people for having stickers, just asking a question.

I wouldnt sticker up my car as i see it as i prefer subtlety, but on the right car with the right graphics it looks alright. As always though, some people get it all wrong ...

BTW daft lad, i thought you said you weren't gonna get involved in another sticker thread

.

Why is the person with this opinion a tw@t though? It's only a difference of opinion.

Why so defensive?

Yeah apologies for that I got a bit carried away! Tw@t is a bit harsh I admit but there is a difference between saying "I don't like stickers but if you like it then do it" and "I don't like stickers, so WTF do you think its a good idea?"

Just fed up of the same old thing being dragged over scoobynet again and again

Edited to say I wasn't targetting the previous post at anyone in particular

Back to this original museing spawned by boredom.

Is your personal inclination towards the thinking that any form of advertising done for no reward is not to be condoned? If so why just single out cars?

Would the payment of a fee make this car any more or less worthy of it's livery?People pay stupid money for a football shirt every season/end of season/leap year etc as an accepted ritual but I don't see any fee passing the fans way.

Should WRC Blue be banned as a colour option on Subarus because of it's rally connotations? I prefer black myself as it is the faster colour. But then I am at odds with myself because I get no sponsorship from "Speedy Funerals PLC" who do seem to have the market sown up regards black livery.

When you shop at Te$co or $ain$bury or Fortnum & Ma$on do you religiously cover your "Bag for Life" with a black bin bag? As you would surely not wish to be seen openly advertising a retail outlet for no recompense?

Bored & mildly interested hence the reply.

You clearly understand the nature of my post and ask some interesting questions.

Big business has a massive influence on the lives of every one of us. Products are marketed with ferocity and "the brand" appears to be the life blood of entire social groups.

The notion of the consumer culture has been at the centre of myriad political ideologies and the rise to dominance of enterprise and marketing in the 80s made it a popular topic for conversation, not just amongst the thinkers and the intellectual elite, but also amongst ordinary men like me.

So, given that I've thought about it, have I drawn any conclusions? Well I recognise that capitalism works and understand the benefits of a free market. This doesn't mean that it's side-effect free. McDonalds, Nestle, Microsoft et al are incredibly powerful organisations that are entirely ruthless in the pursuit of profit. We are bombarded daily with instructions to buy, buy, buy and I find it shallow and without meaning.

Clearly I can't disassociate myself entirely from the central tenet of western culture. I don't knit my own jumpers from wool that I fleeced at the weekends. I don't have the cobbling skills to make my own shoes. I can't even feed my addiction to fast cars by engineering my own machinery. What I can do however is make a conscious decision not to ally myself with a faceless organisation who in no way cares for me, my family or my friends. I do this by trying not to display brand names on my person. Sometimes I can't avoid it (I haven't figured out a way to remove the HH emblem from my waterproof jacket), but I can do my best.

When I see children with Coca-Cola mobile phone covers I shudder. They've paid money to increase the awareness of the most widely recognised brand on the planet: surely this is madness? Does it extend to football shirts? Well
I guess so. It's entirely possible to pledge your allegiance to a football club without sporting the O2, Vodafone or, in the case of my club, the Ginsters logo. Football of course has spawned a whole new form of corporate dominance that for me has stripped the soul out of the beautiful game.

So, I'd imagine you can begin to understand why I find it puzzling that people proactively do what I consciously avoid. I also recognise that people have got much more important things to think about then the cultural implications of the stickers on their car.

Must agree in part. ALL the kids loved the look of my car but there were plenty of others who thought it looked stunning as well. Only a month or so ago a bloke in Grassington comes over and asks for permission to take picture of the car because his WIFE loved the look of it. I would however say there were no doubt plenty of sniggers and I had a few "Why would you do that to a £20k car" comments. In the end I got somewhat sick of the good/ bad attention and decided to remove them over the weekend.

Strangely felt more comfortable driving it. Still got plenty of attention (for the right reasons I hope or do people now think the sun strip looks tacky???) and I'm generally a lot happier using it for work rather than limiting it to weekends.

Will post the new pics up.....looks damn mean in balck with dark PFF7's and tinted windows. Just a bit harder to keep clean now though.

The old look incidentally.........
