I would have laughed to myself a bit, then offered to help. The disabled dislike being mollycoddled (sp) anyway and they are often the first to point out the humour in such a situation.
I think there are very few people in society who would not offer to help if they could see the blind person struggling, regardless of whether they found it funny or not.

I was in a meeting once with a colleague who had a false leg. At one point he said "Let's keep our feet on the floor" - I sad to him - Don't you mean foot ?
The other people looked horrified - he and I pissed ourselves laughing at which point they all joined in. He told me afterwards he didn't like people who treat him like some invalid and worry about how he feels if they find something funny. He much preferred people to be themselves.

I would have had a little chuckle and promptly, would go to see if he needed any help
And I bet he would have been having a little chuckle himself

Mneame,
I was taught never to mock the afflicted, and don't laugh at other peoples misfortunes.
Being young doesn't give people the right to be uncaring, selfish, selfcentred, inconsiderate and thoughtless.
Would the girl in your office, and for that matter anyone on here who believes it is funny, think it was funny if someone burst out laughing at their mother/father/grandparent/child etc hurting themselves.
I suspect, like me, they would be extremely angry and defensive of their family member, possibly up to the point of thumping the laughing spectator.
Cheers

I would have a little chuckle about it and then go over and see if the chap is ok.
For those voting no, do you happen to watch South Park, and if so, do you laugh at Timmy and Jimmy? If so then is this not somewhat similar, or does it not count as they are cartoon characters and not real?
Humor is subjective, what I laugh at, some might not, and the reverse would be true.

Like a few people have said I am pretty damn sure I'd chuckle to myself, or at least fight back laughing under my breath but then help the chap/chapess up if they needed assistance. I think it'd be a natural reaction more than owt else, as someone else said we can't help what we find funny!

My mate at college was blind - he came in one day with glasses on. We all took the p1ss, asking "what's the point!!"
As we left my flat and went downstairs, we got to the front door - I walked through it. He walked into the brick wall next to it!!!![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
He scratched his glasses (seemed rather upset about it) - this made us laugh even more!!!!
He took the p1ss out of himself as much as we did, so yes, I would laugh my a$$ off. I'd laugh regardless of who walked into it!!![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

If you want to go round thumping people for laughing then it show's us how wrong the yoof of today have got it

Come round and thump me - and I'll get my Dad to sort you out

Anyone who thinks that is funny really must have an uncaring and selfish streak in them. I find it pretty disappointing that so many these days seem to have that feeling of Schadenfreude and in a case like this it is sadly misplaced.
Sureley the first thought should be concern for his welfare and then to help him if he needs it.

If someone burst out laughing at one of my children hurting themselves, in front of me, I would have no hesitation in teaching them the need to respect others.
Would I talk them to death or would I knock them into the middle of next week. Who knows.
But either way they would remenber the incident for a long time.

You can laugh WITH someone, or laugh AT someone.
The two actions are quite distinct.

The simple fact is that old blind pugh was walking too fast for his sweeping action. It's no ******* different to a sighted person not looking where he's going and walking into the lamp post.
If he doesn't want to walk into lamp posts the blind **** should slow down or sweep faster - either way he should sweep where he's going.
Next time he could walk into someone's daughter and do some real harm !

I don't recollect any question being posed about wether it is the blind persons own fault if they have a mishap?
And why do you feel the need intersperse your response with profanities?
I can understand your point of view quite clearly without them.
I don't agree with it, and feel that your outlook on life and the people you share it with is vastly different to mine.
But it takes all sorts to make up a world.

This thread still going on?
The vast amount of people that have said they would laugh (myself included) have also said that they would offer the person assistance if indeed he/she needed it. I would hardly call that selfish and uncaring TBH, but maybe thats just me!
As for possibly thumping someone who laughed - a tad harsh I feel?

Equal rights except when the afflicted get hurt? Nope, for me, very funny when anyone does it IMO.
Blind dude presumably had a white stick / dog etc and believed himself to be able to get out and about on his own and made an error. A 'not' blind dude without sight aides able to be out and about on his own and makes the same error - both funny...![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Unless he was on his bum and in severe pain I wouldnt go over, he would feel a big enough plonker without finding out he'd been spotted... I know I would!
I probably wouldnt have come into work and laughed about it in front of people because humour is personal and there's always some folk who take political correctness so bl00dy far that there sense of humour may have been extracted to make way for over conscientiousness and namby pamby liberalism to the extreme...
Funny to me? Too right...W@nker...possibly... Ar$ed...nope.

I honestly don't think this is a PC issue. It's just about common decency towards a person who has a disbaility i'd like to think you hope and pray you never suffer from. An ironic smirk i can understand, a full-blown belly laugh does to me just come back to a degree of immaturity, sorry.
