Ian,
You are correct, if you have the socket (you might not have) then you just plug it in, cut the J1 link and off you go... If you don't have the socket, then solder one in and then as above.
This is what your ECU will look like...
and here is one once the socket is in and the chip installed...

Was kind of pointless in my case tho as i'm getting better fuel economy since i installed the chip. (Scoobyecu chip)

[quote=willfal]Just cut it with a pair of snips, you can then solder on 2 wires and run them to a toggle/latched switch. You then have a map for power and your standard map.

I have one of these in my 93wrx and its got a lot more power, but i like the idear of the high and low boost switch, low for wife high for me ,so if i run to wires from j1 to a switch do i need any power to the switch, could i take power from *** lighter. Was going to get a Blitz Electronic Controller but this sounds a lot cheaper way.Dont no if its in right section or should i post in electrical

if you decide to fit the switch make the wires as short as poss and insulate them well because they can interfere with the ecu, ive got a vos fitted and its not worth fitting a switch because unless you nail it you dont even know its there, fuel consumption is the same and the gains are impressive!

A few questions about these chips then.
1) what car was the dyno report from and what mods/setup did he have?
2) if you havent got a de-cat down pipe will the chip do any harm to the engine?
3) who is actually selling them?
thanks,
GAZ

Gaz,
Hope this clears things up.
1) what car was the dyno report from and what mods/setup did he have? The car tested was a 1994 WRX with Panel filter and 3 inch cat back exhaust.
2) if you havent got a de-cat down pipe will the chip do any harm to the engine? NO, the car above that the chip was tested on has no decat downpipe and the chip works fine.
3) who is actually selling them? I am arranging the GB through a supplier I have found.
thanks,
Benno

Hope this answers all your questions
1)The order will be posted as soon as we have 7 people, hopefully by the end of the month.
2)The chip is known as an EPROM MBM27C1028 device used for Subaru ECU upgrades, it is essentially a ScoobyECU but from a different supplier, do a search on here for ScoobyECU and you will find all the info you need.
3)Chip is mapped for 98RON+ Optimax/Tesco99 etc but will run fine on 95 octane fuel as well.
4)Pretty good if you already have a socket in your ECU or are prepared to get it soldered in by a mate or something, chip is only £225.
5) PM Blue94WRX300, he is running one already

Update
OK,
The supplier has only 5 chips left now but is willing to do them at the original price for 10 units to finish up the GB. Who's interested?

*Gaz, if you read through the whole thread you will see instructions on how to check if you have the socket, it only takes 5 minutes.

cheers benno will do that ASAP. Do you mean the supplier is doing the 5 for £225 each?
also i just thought i'd tell ya i posted a link to this thread on SIDC to try and get some more people, but i have the feeling that all the crap in the middle of this thread may be putting people off you might want to start a new thread. and put your origional message in and maybe my questions to help people out.

erm.... bad news benno.
just checked my ECU and there isnt a empron socket and i can really spare an extra £40 or spare to lose my ECU for a week whilst one gets fitted.
is it possible to send one with the chip and how much extra will this cost.
not looking good

Gaz,
Just to let you know, the original post does say that the chips do come with the EPROM socket.
I soldered mine in myself, and I thought it was quite easy. You just suck out the solder from the holes (using a solder sucker £3 off ebay) and then solder the socket into the holes, piece of cake. Install the chip and cut the J1 link, and off you go... 2 hours max from start to finish and that's with a brew in between!!
