As for the 'gravity' issue, they were told they weren't going far enough away from the Earth to experience weightlessness. Looking forward to seeing what happens when they are 'launched'

some people on here are being as dumb as the contestants.....they got rid of all the people with a background that means they may know stuff like....what an F14 is. In other words......geeks have gone already!

how is a PE teacher.....who thinks he's going to space, suppose to worry if the Mig picture is a real Mig - considering his only point of reference is seeing one in Topgun 10 years before i think they are safe*

idea 2.......afte blowing up the earth have the contestants "voted out" but remove them secretly from the shuttle in a "are the aliens coming to gets styleee" by the time the last one is left he will think he's the only human alive and about to be alien dinner any time- if he doesnt top himself give him £1m and a pat on the back.

T

ps* anyone saying "they didnt use real migs in Topgun" will prove my geek point.

Tiggs, if they've seen Top Gun, they've seen F14s being flown by Americans!

As you rightly say, anyone with any intelligence was booted out which proves why we're still here posting about it, most of us are too clever, the rest too dumb to fill the forms out!

I am surprised they left the electrician on the show though.
If he shows an interest on the electrical systems and back ups on the shuttle surely he would spot somethings up even with basic knowledge?

I think the joke is going to end up being on the viewer myself, it's all a big wind up on our part IMO.

Check the contestants, several of them are already actor's (i'm talking about the so called contestants here and not the 'actors' placed).

For example...

Ryan
Channel 4 pic
Scene from give blood advert

Kerri Hassett
Channel 4 pic
Extra's (for acting?)

(note in Kerri's profile, it doesn't mention anything about her being an actor)

I've also heard it wasn't filmed in Norwich, but at another disused air base. Can't back that up tho as its word of mouth

If nothing else it'll give all the conspiracy theorists something to witter on about for a while...

problem now is it cant win - if the jokes on us.....whats the joke? it would be like any TV show saying "ha ha...we arent really a show at all" - theres no point. Whats JV gonna say "we fooled ya, we didnt really do this - we just wasted your time" the "gag" would only work if they said the show was REAL and then told us they werent really in space. as it is the only "gag" would be that they said they'd trick some people....but didnt.

problem if the show is not a double bluff.......whats the joke? they may as well call someone up and say "you won a million....hah ha, no you didnt".

as they have shown they have gone to great lengths to make it look real- so why shouldnt the people belive it? in fact.....can anyone give a reason why they should think its fake (geek reasons aside)
they need it to be MORE unbelivable if its going to be a joke - they have even told them they arent going high enough to loose gravity thus making it sound like an airplane trip at higher altitude...thus more belivable and thus less gag - they need to take these people to a point where when they tell them the truth they say "how the hell did we not know" at the moment they havent done that. (see scare tatics in the US for the way it should be done)

No conspiracy, no hoax: just a bunch of people being made to look silly for commercial telly . Frankly, the level of gullibility is award winning. The coffee cup with a picture of Vladimir Putin on it, the moustachiod RAF Commander, the outside temperature being no different in Russia then East Anglia . Good job they weeded out anyone with an IQ in excess of 67 and ensured a smattering of teachers were present to help quell the urge to ask searching questions.

"The coffee cup with a picture of Vladimir Putin on it, the moustachiod RAF Commander, the outside temperature being no different in Russia then East Anglia "

you see....this is why its no joke - these all look real enough to me. The cup is russian so why wouldnt it be there? dont the RAF allow facial hair.....i would have no idea what the most southern part of russias temp is in late november - why should they?

its too real right now, they are not been "fooled" they are being "lied" to - big difference and only the latter is funny.

if i dress up as a doctor and tell you you have cancer thats not funny if you fall for it - if i tell you you have ratyitus which involves a rat eating your brain (having been born in your ear canal some years before) and the only way to cure it is to push cheese in your nose and lure it out...now that is funny if you fall for it.

Maybe they're chucking in a few bits of bait for us clever folk to find and talk about just so that the show generates some interest and viewing figures go up...

Do you know what? (and this isn't easy for me to say) I think I agree with you. I watched it last night and thought "shame, they'll be gutted when they find out". I'm even going to go so far as to do a U-turn on my post - given the type of person on the show (in a psychometric sense) it'd be entirely convincing. Why would they question it? It's easy for me to sit here and pick flaws, but....... So your point then Tiggs is that it's so believable as to not be a trick, but a cruel hoax?

spot on.....and theres no "gag" part to the hoax. whats funny about it?

in fact i dont "get" the show at all, lying to people that are easily fooled?......they may as well have gone to a speacial needs school and said "hey kids, santas here to give you a ride on his sleigh.......just kiddin retards" (in fact, that sounds funnier )

We see little things as faults as we're lookin for a problem with it, why should these people even think about doubting the show, they have a famous presenter doing the program with C4 which has a good reputation for breakthrough reality shows (if you like that sort of thing) These people will be so hyped up for at least the first week to notice anything small and insignificant....

Totally believable for these people IMO but its funny to sit back and watch them lapping it up

So you'd have to be a bit of a **** to enjoy it then? Really it's about watching people believe they're making history and securing celeb status, whilst we, the viewers, sit back safe in the knowledge that the dream will be shattered and the contestants will be branded as gullible z-listers.

Excellent .

Excellent .

but thats just not that good an idea is it?

i think they have underestimated what they could get away with.....they have made the "hoax" to belivable for us to laugh at their stupidity and so what do we laugh at.....the lie? or is it just about us being smug that we know something they dont?

look at scare tactics......they had a man wetting his pants because he saw a rat/human hybrid jump out of a cupboard - space cadets gives us people being told that someone with a tash works for the RAF. Untill they give us something that makes the players look REALLY stupid (or scares them silly) its a weak show.

It's on a commercial TV station where ratings are king and I'm looking forward to watching it pan out - so I imagine it's going to achieve its aim. It's marketed as a hoax and that's what it is. It may not have the Beadleness of Scare tactics, but I don't think that's the producers intention. Perhaps there's some social comment in terms of highlighting the eagerness of people to achieve fame via reality TV. On this occasion they'll acheive their 15 minutes for reasons not yet apparent.

Hoax: fraud: something intended to deceive; deliberate trickery intended to gain an advantage.

Do you feel sorry for the contestants?

I dunno - that rat boy looked freaky and realistic to me!

These things really exist man - they do - they're all hiding out on Dartmoor!!

Mind you the Japs locked some guy up in a flat for over a year and he to survive on what he won in competitions. Mad as can be. Think we are starting to go the same way, humiliation for the sake of seeing how bad you can be?
