@DieselDog -- flogged my copy of Dreams Less Sweet (with the free 12") for £25 on ebay a couple of years back -- so it's worth something after all

Speaking of Pulp, "This is Hardcore" is criminally underrated. Easy listening it ain't, though.

No free 12" here, but that's good news: Mother can have her operation after all!

I'll give it a go - cheers. Always wonder how the great man could turn out The Frog Chorus a few years later...

Lifehouse - No Name Face.

It's one of the best post grunge rock albums I've ever heard. Jason Wade was so young when he wrote the songs on it (16/17), and to be honest, there are some of the best lyrics I've ever heard (especially for someone so young)

example.

Quasimodo

'you can be right
and I'll be real
honesty won't be a pain that you'll have to feel
cause I don't need your approval
to find my worth
I'm trapped inside of my own mind
afraid to open my eyes cause of what I'd find and I
don't want to live like this anymore

there goes my pain
there goes my chains
did you see them falling
because this feeling
that has no meaning

there goes the world
off of my shoulders
there goes the world
off of my back
there it goes

does it scare you that I can
be something different than you
would it make you feel more comfortable if I wasn't
you can't control me
and you can't take away from me who I am

there goes my pain
there goes my chains
did you see them falling
because this feeling
that has no meaning

there goes the world
off of my shoulders
there goes the world
off of my back
you can't change me
you can't break me

there goes the world
off of my shoulders
there goes the world
off of my back

have you ever felt
like your only comfort was your cage
you're not alone
I've felt the same as you
have you ever felt
like your secrets give you away
you're not alone
I've been there too
cause everyone is looking
and everyone is laughing but I think
everyone feels the same
everybody wants to feel ok
everybody wants to
everybody wants to feel

there goes my pain
there goes my chains
did you see them falling
because this feeling
that has no meaning

there goes the world
off of my shoulders
there goes the world
off of my back
cause I don't want it
I don't want it
you can't change me
you can't break me

there goes the world
off of my shoulders
there goes the world
off of my back
there it goes'

IMHO the one album which never got anywhere near the attention it deserved was by Marillion: Brave. The definitive concept album!

Girl found wandering on the Severn Suspension Bridge, won't speak to the police or anyone.... The album that unfolds is her story. Exapnsaive, raw, beautiful and very moving.

The Girl's Swansong: The Great Escape was -and remains- the finest peice of music I've ever heard and the most moving.

Ok, if we're going for forgotten Prog I'd have to include this:

Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick. Their best album by far.

I though Marillion "Brave" was pretty weak. Not as good as the other Rothery albums nor the Fish years.

John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Paco De Lucia - Friday Night in San Francisco

Ned's Atomic Dustbin - God Fodder

Tangerine Dream - Logos (Live at The Dominion)

Bob Marley - Everyone remembers Live at the Lyceum, but Babylon By Bus is by far the better album.

Captain Beefheart - Ice Cream For Crow

Morrissey - Your Arsenal

Woohoo another mansun fan, not many of us around (and now they are no more!)

Me I would add:

INXS: Kick - played that one to death
Adam and the Ants: Kings of the wild frontier (before prince charming $hit!)
Human League: Dare
New Order: Technique
Prodigy: Fat of the Land

Rock on!

This one is more subjective, it disappeared almost without trace despite good critical reviews.

Teenage Fanclub 'Howdy!'

As a compliation, I'm not sure that this counts, but it's certainly forgotten and ignored. I'd like to remind you of the genius that is Julian Cope...
