However there are only a limited number of refineries in the UK, Shell at Stanlow, Cheshire, BP at Grangemouth, Scotland etc. They transport fuel around the country by pipeline to distribution centres. So your local BP garage doesn't get petrol via fuel tanker from Scotland, it gets it from whichever refinery supplies the nearest distribution centre and then they add whatever additives and detergents to the tanks which differentiate BP from Shell, from Total from Tesco etc. The raw material is usually the same thing.
Total, Texaco, Tesco (and others) get a supplies from Bruncefield. I don't know about Shell/BP/Esso, depends on where their nearest distribution centres are. However it's not inconceivable that they would too.

I would say that they do something useful each and every day and that they deserve praise and to be well paid for it rather than snide remarks from the likes of yourself who has clearly never worked on a big job.
Even giving advice about smoke detectors is a more valuable contribution to society than most of us ever manage to make.

Whoa, is that true about Northgate, we do LOADS of work with them, mainly GIS software and my least favourite project !
It was looking a bit touch and go anyway, I am thinking them getting blown up will end it !

I used to IT contract at the Esso refinery in Fawley. Was chatting to the head safety guy one day, and he said to me "Pete, if the cat cracker ever goes up, kiss goodbye to most of Southampton, and they'll here the bang in Birmingham and see the flames from Oxford"

my sisters boyfriend lives on a house-boat on the canal in HH and the fire service are going to be draining the section where they are to put the fire out tonight. he has lost his buisiness which was near the depot and now his home will be sunk

Lots of schools are closed tomorrow and not just in hemel, most of herts by the looks of things. we are in garston and all round here are closed..

I think you're all missing the point.
Over 40 people were injured in the "incident"; many of whom are without doubt in hospital with painful burns.
The Fire Brigade, who are well trained but sit on their ***** being paid for it most of the time (somebody want to argue?), couldn't really do anything about an occurrence of this magnitude. Just let it burn to a controlable level and then deal with it.
Think of the poor buggers in hossie just now and get a perspective, **** the price of SUL.

Having said that, the DRP is in effect, and most vital systems will be back up and running in a day or so. Clearly the most important are the health-related customers, but payrolls etc are also critical.
The building looks as though it's totalled, however, and I'd be amazed if Northgate returned to Hemel in the short term, or indeed ever. Likelihood is that access to the building will be gained at some point on Tuesday, but this is dependent upon the success of tonight's attempt at quelling the fire. Fire brigade sources state that there's NOTHING worth salvaging from the inside, though certain areas will have been far more badly damaged than others.
Any Northgate employees ONLY can PM me and I'll give you further information.
