If you believe the Sky or News 24. The whole world is ending! Its a large explosion of course. But thankfully its an accident and no ones been killed. Panic buyers are basically idiots. Its a Total site, so BP and Shell and Texaco and Esso will not be affected in ANY way. But I did see that a bakery had its windows blown out, so I better get down to Asda and stock up on Pies as there might be a shortage
Other facts I acertained this morning
* 11Million Troops are in the area to stop looting
* 34K Fire personnel are in the area
* The flood waters are rising
* Cars and Vans have been destroyed
* Witnesses are all Heros who rescued some Kittens from the Fireball that's engulfed most of the UK
* The "Black Rain" we will get over the next couple fodays isn't harmful, but we think it might be, so you'll need to wear lead lined clothes
* The Media WISH this was a TERRORIST attack

However there are only a limited number of refineries in the UK, Shell at Stanlow, Cheshire, BP at Grangemouth, Scotland etc. They transport fuel around the country by pipeline to distribution centres. So your local BP garage doesn't get petrol via fuel tanker from Scotland, it gets it from whichever refinery supplies the nearest distribution centre and then they add whatever additives and detergents to the tanks which differentiate BP from Shell, from Total from Tesco etc. The raw material is usually the same thing.
Total, Texaco, Tesco (and others) get a supplies from Bruncefield. I don't know about Shell/BP/Esso, depends on where their nearest distribution centres are. However it's not inconceivable that they would too.

I would say that they do something useful each and every day and that they deserve praise and to be well paid for it rather than snide remarks from the likes of yourself who has clearly never worked on a big job.
Even giving advice about smoke detectors is a more valuable contribution to society than most of us ever manage to make.

Whoa, is that true about Northgate, we do LOADS of work with them, mainly GIS software and my least favourite project !
It was looking a bit touch and go anyway, I am thinking them getting blown up will end it !

SOme interesting things have been found so far...
and the main culprits are...
the press and the police...!!!
********
The police are urging people not to panic buy, as there is no risk to supplys...
funny it was the press who were blatently stating supplies would be disrupted, at 7.30 am this morning..
************
************
For stating the bleedin obvious..
"The police anticipate more explosions today"
hmm an oil depot has blown up... lots of explosive materials there, dont really think theres much chance of them not exploding do you"
***********************
and for being the new fire brigade...
"Police say there is no risk of the fire spreading..."
ah well were all safe then!!
sfunny i thought the fire brigade were the supposed experts in this field, it would appear that the police force have diversified and now control everything..
does anyone else get the distinct impression that the news coverage was so dumbed down it was purile..
I see the compo brigade are circling, with people demanding statements from the police or other senior officials as to "is it safe to go to work tommorow, and what risks are there?" you can see the claims coming cant you...
Hypo....
Did you have to work following the Buncefield oil blast?
Did your employer provide councelling for the trauma
we can help.. ring suem & weep on 0800 xxxx
once again people have become so spoonfed, they cant think for themselves...
thank god it happened on a sunday though

At 0600 ish this morning I was awoken in High Wycombe by a huge BOOM.
My dog started growling and I sat upright with eyes wide open trying to figure it all out.
I woke my wife up and asked her, but she hadn`t heard it. She then tried to reassure me that it was probably the central heating coming on
At 0700 I got a text from my work collegue informing me that we wouldnt be going to the oil depot, and telling me to check BBC1!!!!!!!
**** me, I know I was safely in bed when it exploded, but 3 hours later I coulda been seriously hurt!!!

I used to IT contract at the Esso refinery in Fawley. Was chatting to the head safety guy one day, and he said to me "Pete, if the cat cracker ever goes up, kiss goodbye to most of Southampton, and they'll here the bang in Birmingham and see the flames from Oxford"
I used to think he was having a laugh, but after today I'm not so sure.

I think you're all missing the point.
Over 40 people were injured in the "incident"; many of whom are without doubt in hospital with painful burns.
The Fire Brigade, who are well trained but sit on their ***** being paid for it most of the time (somebody want to argue?), couldn't really do anything about an occurrence of this magnitude. Just let it burn to a controlable level and then deal with it.
Think of the poor buggers in hossie just now and get a perspective, **** the price of SUL.

Having said that, the DRP is in effect, and most vital systems will be back up and running in a day or so. Clearly the most important are the health-related customers, but payrolls etc are also critical.
The building looks as though it's totalled, however, and I'd be amazed if Northgate returned to Hemel in the short term, or indeed ever. Likelihood is that access to the building will be gained at some point on Tuesday, but this is dependent upon the success of tonight's attempt at quelling the fire. Fire brigade sources state that there's NOTHING worth salvaging from the inside, though certain areas will have been far more badly damaged than others.
Any Northgate employees ONLY can PM me and I'll give you further information.

It's still big as ever, the Fire brigade apparantly didn't last night, it'll be this morning.
