Does anyone get Rally XS magazine?
With the copy I have just received through the post, they are offering a free forest pass if you renew your subscription with them for 6 months. The subscription is £18 and the pass is £25. Quite a good deal I think.
Anyway, I will be there. Friday 23rd I think, I would like to do the whole event but it aint gonna happen this year.
The introduction of the passes has definitely made life easier, managed to easily get 3 stages last year. The previous years 2 at a push.

BAD NEWS
![](http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif)
Earlier in this thread I said that I would post the location for the Rally shake-down.
In recent years this has taken place in the Forest of Dean, with unrestricted access to the public and more importantly it was FREE!
Today I`ve been speaking to the PR company who handle all the Press Releases etc for the RAC Motor Sports Association.
I was totally gobsmacked when they told me that "it is not officially open to the public" . . . . .
quote "because the cars will be driven very fast and it could be dangerous" Yeah right Like their not being driven fast on the stages!
They were also reluctant to give me the location.
![](http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif)
What a load of total bollox, I can only assume they haven`t found a way of extracting even more money out of WRC fans.
I should have the exact location soon, and rest assured I will make sure that as many people as possible know where it will be held.
Cheers

I,m going down thurs night,Staying in Port Talbot (3 of us) got £55 forest passes .Watching all 3-days.
I think going to the rally is better than the British Grand prix. There is something about it.
See Yer There.

I'll be going can't miss a year been going since they were going through Trentham Gardens.
Started to stay in B&B's now though instead of camping. Don't know if its because i'm nesh or the attraction of beer.

Can anyone recommend accomodation for 5 lads.
I have one place in mind (where we stayed the year before last, near Brecon), but it may be a bit far from the stages for the Friday.
I'm also having difficulty finding detailed stage maps and times. The NetworkQ site seems a bit general i.e only give an overall map and service in/out times, not detailed maps and stage start and stop times.

Slight correction to Mark Colemans post re timing of Rally
shake-down . . . .
Top teams ie Manufacturers will be running from 9.00am and will be finished by 1.00pm.
The venue is Rheola Forest near Neath, BUT . . . . The RACMSA stress that this is definately NOT A PUBLIC EVENT, so its up to you whether you gamble on gaining access.
Good Luck

Service Area.....did someone ask......?
I pass it twice a day..I live about 4 miles away.
It's immediately north of the M4, junction 46. That's just north of Swansea.
If you've got an old road atlas it will indicated limited on/off slip-roads at J46, that's all been changed over the last year.
Should be loads of parking as the area was the location of a long demolished steel works. Access road "swoops" half way around the service area, should make good viewing as you approach.
You can get to it from the north by heading south from the village of Felindre, via Clydach, through unchained roads.
The A48 runs on the south of the M4 at the service area, between junctions 46 and 47. There is a turn off to the village of Bryntywood. If you use this you'll find little parking, and the road is now blocked off before you can get to the service area.
There is a small lay-by at the J47 end, but.....be careful.
J47 has services - BP petrol, MacaDees and Burger King.
Just off J47 - Murco petrol.
Loads of chip shops in Gorseinon - just off J47. Chinese take-aways and a couple of indians.
Couple decent pubs just off J47 towards Gorseinon.
If anyone wants any more information, mail me on
phdavies@talk21.com
or
daviesp@bv.com
PS, news from yesterday - local law enforcement are settling up a mobile speed trap on the A465 at ABERDULAIS. Probably the usual white van with side door open exposing a dark cloth...most of you will have to pass this point to get to Resolven !!!!!!!
I don't have the room to put you all up, but if you've got trouble you're welcome to call me.
Enjoy!
Pete

O.K a question for you regular Network Q chaser's
What would you call too late to arrive at a Rally stage (except for the obviouse). Do you arrive 1/2hour, 1 Hour or 1-Day before.
i.e Rhonnda starts at 0929, so when would be the best time to arrive, likewise for Crychann and Halfway etc...etc...
I want to try a do at least 3 of the following stages on the Friday :
Rhonnda - 1st Car 0929
Crychann - 1st Car 1240
Halfway - 1st Car 1304
Brechfa - 1st Car 1603
Trawscoed - 1st car 1651
Cheers.....

phd - Thanks for the local info ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Scott.T - The earlier the better! I would say 1 hour before stage start is the minimum, if it's less than that go to the next stage or you could miss the first cars.
The later you turn up the further you will have to walk!
If you do park up overnight you are usually within 1/4 or 1/2 mile of the stage.
If you plan to see the top twenty cars that will be at least an hour after stage start (if it's on time) and then you have to walk back to your car and get out in a queue.
Allow for trafic to be BAD!
2 stages/day is reasonably easy, 3 takes some effort, any more is difficult!
for Friday
Rhonnda - 1st Car 0929 - be there about 08:00 if possible
Crychann - 1st Car 1240 - These two are fairly close so try for
Halfway - 1st Car 1304 - Crychann with Halfway as a fall-back
Brechfa - 1st Car 1603 - It's quite a way down here so miss this one
Trawscoed - 1st car 1651 - Go for this on, it will be dark anyway so it doesn't matter what it's like just get where you can.
Hope this helps!
Chris

3 stages in a day is really ambitious!! Could only just be done in the 'good old days' when the first stage was at 6am and the last at 7pm!![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
Remember that from the gates it may take 15 mins to find a parking space, and then take a good 45min to reach the stage!! Best to watch all the cars go through an early stage, and then head off to a later stage.
Give a good 2 hours from the gate b4 the stage start to account for any traffic queues along the way!

Nah, you turn up about 5 minutes before each stage starts. You then drive through the stage itself. You then head for the next stage and aim to get there about 5 minutes before the start. If you are low on fuel etc. then stop at a service area on the way to the next stage. Grab some lunch when you can. Do the whole thing for three and a bit days.
If you follow this plan you will see the whole of every stage. And don't start bl**dy wingeing if something falls off the car, or you keep getting overtaken by some Scot, Spaniard or some bloke from Finland.
Cheers
Robert Reid
