Angry Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not again!!!!!

It was flashing again this evening as I overtook a car on the A48 in 4th gear. Nothing to aggressive, just a gental press of the pedal in 4th gear until it hit the boost and then put the pedal to the floor up to 5k+ rpms.

blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink.

I'm getting REALLY pi55ed with this, to the extent that as soon as I got home I booked my car into CVC for a 40k service and a CEL investigation.

If this happens again I'm going to take the CEL fuse out ( )

No warranty I'm afraid.

I'm unsure whether I should take it to Powerstation for the service and the CEL check, I might get a better job done there and they're aware that the CEL light has been on before and also the ecutek.

On the other hand, I'll get to keep my FSSH if I go to CVC

The last tank full was Texaco High Octane, which blows my "Esso SUL" theory out of the window.

p.s. What mods?

Rich by now must of us would rather see PS on the log than CVC for obvious reasons and your car will probably go to someone we know anyway.

TBH, my car is more likely to end up in a ditch...... (bugger, that's tempting fate!! )

I spoke with Paul at CVC this morning and have booked it in for Sat 4th Feb. I told him that I have fitted a panel filter and he immeditately advised me that oil based panel filters are a big NO NO and that it is more a case of "when" it'll **** the MAF, not "if".

This backs up some of the posts on SN so I am off to "Osaka Auto Design" tomorrow to buy a HKS Hybrid panel filter (thanks Ian ).

Yep, got the GREEN cotton panel filter in there. I paid £42 for it a couple of months back but it's worth buying an HKS if it saves £80 for a new MAF (+ fitting).

You could clean the one you have there Richie.... dip it in brake fluid splash it around, swill out then re do... take the filter to the garage not in the car by the way and use the air hose to blow it through and dry it that should clean the oil out from there.

I had not realised you had an oiled one in there... I have found out lately it's best to have a dry one in throughout all the range of cars and years.

My new one is a Green one... it's dry to as the oil stayed in the can

If you would prefer to buy a new one I understand completely

The bit i dont get with these air filters is that 1000s of people fit them and have no problems
I have a lightly oiled and K+N for the past two years and have had no problems "yet" lets hope i stays that way
Rich change back to the standard paper one for now and see if the problem persists.

I did leave that for you to say! I'm poping a K&N dry panel soon.
Anyone other than Mike and LEigh got one in? If so how is yours going?

If you dry the filter, that is meant to be oiled, out. Wont it reduce its ability to be effective in filtering

Sorted, fitted one of these this afternoon, £33.99 from Osako Auto Design in Cardiff. It's a dry one and when it gets clogged up you bin it and buy a new one, should last 1 year to 18 months. Slots straight in, perfect fit. Same one that Ian has and he hasn't had any problems. Cheers for the help Ian , let's hope it's the solved the CEL problem, otherwise it may be new MAF time........
