its exactly 282miles from lower early in Reading to the optimax garage just down the a1 from Scotch Corner acording to my trip counter, if you go via the m25
97 import classic managed it about once per month over the past year, gauge looked empty, but TBH i dont know how low it can go before it actually runs out
probably get about 220/230 to a tank around the doors and going to work and back, but i do tend ti drive it a bit "brisk" to work, also running quite a few engine mods and 1.45bar boost

also should add that the 282miles was on the stock 16"alloys (non gold )
intresting was the readings on the same journey when i fit my new shape legacy 17" wheels and tyres (wrong tyres for car) which gave the mileage at 272miles

we did run Anti lag for a couple of stages, but its only mapped for a very mild setup. Our car runs with a 34mm restrictor, mapped for optimax and CVL also.
Arrons lead foot is to blame...lol

as in no revs?
so theres no oil being pumped round the engine or turbo, the oil that cools and through pressure lubricates the crankshaft bearings, no coolant being pumped round the engine, no power steering, no servo asistance on the brakes and no chance of reacting to a sudden situation on the road with either power or decent brakes.
how do you re-start the engine, do you disengage the clutch (while doing that become a 1200kg rolling shell, start the engine, engage a gear that you think should be appropriate then bring the revs up and engage the clutch. does the car lurch due to engine braking or do you slip the clutch to match?
do you have a tracker fitted? does it call in and report the car stolen as its moving with the engine off?
does the ECU read engine and road speed? do you knwo if it is confusing your ECU and putting it into some sort of safe mode?
does the car handle any different when there is no loading through the gearbox when coasting?

Just start it on the key.
Gear is generally fifth
No Trakker.
ECU isn't as confused as it gets during a remap!!
There is nothing going on on a motorway ... no risk, sterring works well with no PAS when at speed, brakes are not used (or there is no chance to coast).
Coasting was very common in the 60's and especially the 70's when petrol prices quadrupled!
It's not illegal either - I am in FULL control of the vehicle!

What about the oil boiling around turbo bearings, as it is unable to convey the retained heat away.
The oil will deteriorate and seals get extremely hot.
Though if your scooby is non turbo it obviously is not an issue

£20 of UL does well over 250 miles in the 599cc Smart car PURE.. full tank over 300 easily.
in the 699cc Smart roadster a little less but not much! lol

I get approx 220 miles on a full tank of BP ultimate in my road going terzo, standard except for 18" Compomotive Mo's and a full decat'd Scorpion Exhaust.
On the Other hand, my GpN Rally car, much the same as mark@wrx does approx 5mpg (or a mile a litre) on the stage. Running on optimax with silkolene pro-boost.
Both Rubbish !

classic wrx of mine gets an all-time best of 220m and that was a 45 litre fill up of optimax (only brew I use) and lack of light is a worry - 45 litres to top of filler neck. Dial was below the top line of the E on guage!

I get between 180-200 miles per tank of optimax.
pslewis you should buy a diesel, whats the point of having a scooby and and driving it like a complete *** to save a couple of quid on petrol. What next, push it when you only go on short journeys!!!

I couldn't be arsed digging any further and 'Wilkinson's Motoring Offences' costs a fortune so here's a link to a Guardian report quoting an RAC bod who says it IS illegal

Anyway apart from it being illegal it is also stupid and irresponsible. Your brakes are servo assisted and so if an emergency were to present itself you may not be in a possition to stop or low the vehicle effectively. Please don't quote that you only do it on motorways with good visibility etc as the nature of unexpected emergencies tend to be... well.... unexpected and impossible to predict.
As far as I'm concerned you are putting other peoples lives at risk and shouldn't be allowed to drive on public roads!
