I am a father of two children and consider myself a well balanced individual. If you are the "Engineer" you assert to be you would realise that by careful modifying it is possible to improve the efficiency of the vehicle. This being achieved by unrestricting the flow of gasses both in and out and by adjusting the fuel maps to suit a specific set up for Super unleaded rather than a safe setup to cope with any 95 octane (possibly low grade) fuel.

If you continue to drive as you currently do with a modified setup you may be able to achieve a 15% improvement in efficiency, which as I elude to, if you do not use for extra acceleration can be realised as improved fuel consumption.

I would request that you do not refer to my wife as a Pro, which is offensive to me, your inference is somewhat smutty, this being quite strange for someone concerned with others grammar.

I accept my grammer is not 100% perfect, but I write as an Engineer, not a lawyer (or Accountant as my wife is!(ACA))

Dont rise to Pissy Lewis - whilst he does make some sense he relishes the wind-up like no other ....be warned..!..btw His shift pattern at Morrisons enables him to spend as much time as possible 'researching' his subject (on the net).

Oh dear ..... touched a nerve there didn't we??

YOU said that your wife was a pro. - why is it different when I say it - if she was a professional football player she would be known as a pro. whats your issue?

Chartered Engineer, well - thats a coincidence - spelling was important when I got mine!!

You work for Balfour Beatty - so, I assume your degree is in Bricks'n'Sticks? .... I meet loads of Balfour Beatty blokes, they are more educated than you seem to be (you sure you're not pulling my leg about being Chartered?) or you are a Contactor?

You have seen fit to modify your car beyond the limits that Subaru sets - that singles you out as a RoyBacer in everyones mind, you simply cannot escape that fact ....................... indeed, you have modified BOTH yours and your wifes cars - WHY??? Why not buy the car you really want rather than buying one you don't want and therefore changing it?

Merry Xmas

Surley its the same for every marque these days. "Chavs" buy the earlier models that they can afford and modify them. I'm sure most people on here have modified there car in some way, from wheels to lights. All cars are modified, from Metros up to TVR's. Can't see a problem!!

Pete,

You seem intent on being a sluggard and for some reason doubt that I am a professional engineer. I am a Chartered Electrical Engineer with a Power Engineering degree BEng (Hons). I am currently project manager on one of the UK's largest construction projects

You know full well your intent in your response to me regarding my wife and I. You obviously have some intelligence if you are a chartered engineer, what is it in? Hopefully something useful!

Why do you not use these forums for either constructive comment or for everybody’s pleasure rather than posting supercilious derisory comments about groups of people and now my family.

You should as a scholar be aware that Degrees are not awarded on one’s ability to accurately spell throughout a thesis or report, but to accurately convey the required information and to demonstrate that subject is thoroughly understood.

Of course in your world the fact that someone has Dyslexia would preclude them from achieving any academic award despite having a substantial ability and knowledge. No doubt you have similar feelings about people with Autism as they won’t fit your perfect criteria either.

I find it very amusing you don’t attend events or arrange to meet people for face to face debates appertaining to your views. To have this remote dialogue promotes the fact you are a lonely Milksop.

If all of your comments are indeed a wind up, congratulations and have a nice Christmas

Just a different aspect on the Chav debate. I have a classic scooby with slight modifying (so that makes me a Chav in some peoples eyes) but a man that my partner went to school with has just bought a brand new STI. No mods or tinkering with the engine. A very nice looking car. BUT, he is a convicted drug dealer who has only just got out of jail. And I wonder where he got the money to buy the car from?

I would rather be called a Chav for my slight modding of my car, knowing that it and the parts were paid for by honest hard work.

So, next time some of you see a classic and think Chav, the next person in the brand new scooby could be a convicted dealer and hense - the scum of society. I know who I would rather be and it aint the dealer.

Fair play!

I agree, i work bloody hard "most" of the day. If i want to spend my money on a few bits for my car i will, even if i am labeled as a chav by some people. At the end of the day i don't spend my evenings in car parks doing burn outs.... (which i label as "Chav")

Folks just ignore the likes of Pissy Lewis - its all a game for him.

There is ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING WRONG with modding your imprezas.!! and it does NOT make you a chav...

AS long as its done reasonably tastefully on the outside/inside AND it is appreciated that to achieve a higher spec. AND preserve the car a reasonably large sum of cash will need to be invested.
What isnt good for the this and any other marque is to do it on the cheap and rag the thing into the ground.

The problem here seems to be that most people can rationally assess someone and decide whether they are a Chav or not. Believe me, I hate them as much as the next person. However, pslewis seems to think that if you make any mod to your car you are a Chav. I know it's all to wind people up, but it seems a shame because whenever I look at a thread, he always seems to hijack it and turn it into the same boring arguments.

By the way I have a completely unmodded MY00.

There is always the possibility that pslewis hates Subarus, has never owned one, and just comes on here to annoy everyone. Has anyone ever met him or seen a pic of his car?

Who are they kidding they are trying to 'improve the image' and go up market to try and justify their inflated prices. Also seem to be echoing what mitsubishi are planning when they bring out the evo 10 in 2007.

Howy has IMHO hit the nail on the head - it's about taking the brand upmarket, which is where it has to go really to keep IM in the manner that they have become accustomed to.

The dealers will probably be thinking, "oh gosh, how much is this going to cost me this time?"

Rob, don't try to reason with Pete, he'll bring you down to his level and then beat you with experience .

Capita, you've hit the pslewis nail on the head : unfortunately as soon as you see a thread on here that has a comment from him then you can be pretty certain that what might have started out as being of some use of interest to you has probably lost all relevance to the original poster's intentions and you'll have to seek information from another thread without that idiot's 'contributions'.

BACK On Topic : IF Subaru feel that now or in the near future that their sales are going to suffer due to negative associations with the younger end of the Subaru buyers then it seems sensible to consider somehow changing their image but I feel that it will be difficult to do that whilst somehow remaining attractive enough to be able to compete with what would be their new mass market opponents. Currently their products have some USPs such as the boxer engine, 4wd, fairly powerful turbo engine, links to rallying but to compete with Ford, Vauxhall, VW etc directly they will need to produce cars that are BETTER than those brands otherwise people will not want to take the risk and move across from the brands that have been mainstream for a long period of time.

I 'think' you might just be far closer to me than you think you are whilst working on that project

There are only 2 large scale projects running in the country at the moment ....... which one are you on??

I may just buy you a drink if you are on the right one!!

I'm sure I've seen your car a few feet away

I am working on Birmingham New Hospital Project, multi storey acute building main site and premier Mental Health facilities on 3 sites adjacent.

I too like you Pete enjoy a wind up but perhaps a more general outburst is more appropriate than the persecution of the under 30's

I see less fortunate individuals everyday entering the current facilties and always count my lucky stars.

When you see old married couples where the partner brings their loved one in for treatment, in full knowledge he/she isnt coming out again, watching them leave 3 days later alone is sad.

When you see 3lb premature babies with both parents beside themself with anxiety as to will life prevail, pretty much stops ones heart for a second.

cancer/Leukemia patients- enough said

Then theres the people who need help from the Mental health Trust, again you count your blessings and be thankful you are not afflicted.

The above I see everyday, it makes me far more tolerant of everyone (other than voilent criminal types), I really feel Pete you too should look at the world and be thankful for being sane and healthy. Live a little more everyday!

On another thread you mention you coast down hills..I personally don't believe you..... with no servo assistance how could you live with yourself if someone stepped out and you were unable to stop the car quickly enough????

Why dont you buck your own trend and attempt to get along with your fellow me/ scooby people?

Regards

Rob
