Important : Question for all ScoobyNetters
#31
As long as the ads don't dominate the page then I don't see a problem, especially as it's a free site and members can turn em off :-) If you don't like the ads, join :-) All I ask is that you fix the editor so that it works with FireFox properly :-/ Steve

I'd prefer adverts at the bottom of the page, but here is something else to consider.....
Why not allow SN+ members to have avatars? I know there has been resistance in the past to these, especially big signatures and I somewhat agree. However what about a small 80x80pixel avatar under the name? allows us to personalise our posts.
The amount of SN avatars "webmaster" is running is far bigger than I am suggesting, so whats the difference?
Those that dont want to see these can still turn off the view

2nd a previous poster's sentiment on size. They need to be kept reasonable.
Oh and PLEASE DON'T go for ANY of those ads that open themselves up all over your screen when you go to the page and you have to play 'hunt the close button' before you can do anything!!
Keep up the good work!
Cheers

Any more linespace taken up at the top will mean the opening post will be off screen (on my layout anyway!) - just above the quick reply works quite well IMO

The site had slowed quite considerably of late, which, I guess, is the cost of success.
As the extra revenue will no doubt benefit the site and our community then I cannot see how anyone could disagree?
Thanks for the investment, both in terms of time and cash, we really do appreciate it.

A hidden line stating things to come???
dont wish to sound negative, but i think the large membership you enjoy, would be severly depleted it you were to make the site pay to access..
the webs a big place, and many would vie for your crown...
keep adds as is, just iron out the wrinkles....
nb
(if you post, it dosent jump to the updated post, it just goes back to your edit or original typing)
also refreshes to posts arnt automatic anymore, I have to do a reload to refresh the threads manually

Whatever is financially best for Scoobynet and its long term future is best for us Scoobynetters in my opinion. I couldn't give two hoots about the adverts or where they are, this site is great, has helped me out a great deal on several occasions and I have never been on any other site anywhere near as much in comparison to here. Scoobynet is whether you own a Scooby or not and adverts wont change that.

2+2 = 10 I'm afraid
The main body of your post has been posted almost word for word around once every six month since scoobynet was born, and it hasn't happened yet.
There were no hidden lines, just straight talking sir

I'd also prefer ads at the bottom - the forum sponsor's banners etc already take up a reasonable amount of space at the top (c.f. Scoobymag one etc) so I don't really want to trail through half a page of "stuff" before I get to the posts...

Am being forced to read SN via dialup at the moment and the ads are not at all intrusive, or slowing things down, so top or bottom (above or below the quick reply box) is fine with me.

My personal view is that there is plenty of ads already on SN. It sometimes makes it a bit of a ball-ache having to scroll down just to read the first line of a thread and then have to look past another 2 sets of ads to make a reply.
From the customers point of view - the less ads the better
From a profit perspective - the more ads the better
Just find the balance somewhere. 4 sets of adverts per page is too many IMO.
