So you're saying that 0-100 is irrelevant for everyday driving

The STi kicked won up to speeds that matter.

What this thread demonstrates that even a car that is not exactly slow in the first place with nitros still can't catch a std Sti Type R till 130+ and doesn't show a demonstrable advantage till 100+mph. All this from a car that can do that comes with a 3yr warranty (in Japan) and will deliver that degree of performance all the time. How long will the Leon last with nitros.....not anywhere near as long I'd suggest.

Merry xmas all.

NS04

Sigh, some people dont get it. Throughout the whole thread he never compared them like for like.

STI = £27k and Cupra = £18k
STI = 260BHP and cupra = 221
STI = 4wd and cupra = 2wd

it was a comparison nothing more, you pay your wedge for what you want.

i agree but power loss through transmission would be greater in the impreza

I found it a very balanced post.
8 year old, but specialist Impreza (type r) - unknown age of CTR with gas & both came away winners with no bitterness.

BTW my STi RA runs out of steam at about 110!!

Exhaust and filter alone won't give an STi 300bhp. Filter may even loose power, it will need a remap to make 300 imho. Thought the official line from you mitchy was a 280bhp Cupra R would beat a 280bhp STi/P1, transmission losses this, transmission losses that.......................

The dccd allows you to adjust the power spilt between the front/rear wheels but the car always remains 4wheel drive.
You are thinking of the system in the skyline, which is mainly rwd until there is a loss of traction and power is transferred to the front wheels.

The Sti type R has trickery gearing making it a very fast accelerating car plus it has a switchable diff. The STI type R is a good 150+kg lighter than the LCR.
As far as I'm aware it has slightly shorter gearing than a P1(does that count as trickery?), with a slightly quicker 0-60 and 0-100, all be it a relative 60-100. The P1 has a higher top speed.

Secondly, i do believe a 280bhp LCR will keep up with, if not out accelerate an sti/P1[
You state your car without NOS would have been beaten quite convincingly in your encounter over at SC.net

Its transmission loss obviously was evident as i hammered it mid range as was done in the 1st test
Wrong it wasn't transmission losses, it was the fact you have more horsepower and NOS.

Now perhaps you could enlighten me paul about the switchable diff in the STI type R? I was told it makes the car mainly RWD and only reverts to 4wd when it senses traction issues? Im not sure if thats true or not, maybe a lot of bollocks? But perhaps you could enlighten me?
It can only distribute power to the rear and front by certain percentages, won't make it completely RWD.

He has a full exhaust system, not just a backbox, it had sports cat and up/downpipe and an HKS filter? He put rough estimation of 300bhp. Not me!
I seem to remember flat_ire(sp?) in his STi struggeld to get to 300 bhp with more mods than your mate.

Merry XMAS!

Why put them against each other and compare the performance on a forum if you don't want people to discuss it??

Just seems to me that the Scoob ate the LCR (an LCR using nitrous?). I am very unimpressed with the LCR. Maybe the STI got off to a better start due to traction but thats going to be over once 2nd gear engaged. If the LCR was so much faster midrange it would have caught it easily, not taken until 130 or whatever it was. Sounds to me for the most part the scoob maintained the gap. And thats with nitrous being used?!!!

Aerodynamics and gearing probably had more effect than the so called "myth" of 4WD tranny losses - its all garbage.

Plus was that STI putting out the full fat? Theyre engines designed for Japan, theyre never as good with 100RON.

LCR is a nice cheap hot hatch. But its not in the big league...

1 coach length?? What we talking, trains or bus here, coz if it's a bus, wow thats a long bus for it to be 8-10 car lengths.

Also isn't this impreza sti type R the quickest/lightest model ever built by subaru?
The lightest and the shortest geared was the Type RA.

I say dothe test again, with him having a confirmed, true 330 bhp....see what happens!

The power to weight ratio of a 340bhp m3 is a lot lower than a classic sti with the same power and rolling the sti will catch the m3 and pass it.

Paul having read the type RA runs out of puff at 110mph
Think that is due to the limiter 112mph? Think they struggle to see 140mph though, but up to that they are brutal. Funily enought the two short blasts I've had with M3's E46 I haven't lost any ground either, not top end stuff though.

P/W/R
STi Type R with 330bhp - 260BHP/tonne
M3 - 219 bhp
P1 - 218bhp/tonne(for reference)
Yours, with NOS is about 240bhp/tonne.

By the way, I'm in no way saying your car aint quick, NOS or no NOS, just that transmission losses aren't the factor you make out they are.

The STI Type R/RA with the dccd, will have about the same transmission losses as a 2wd car.

http://www.williamsclio.co.uk/forum/...509&highlight=

"Anyway, nitrous was activated and it achieved 283.70bhp @ wheels and a massive 397.72lbft" MITCHY on SEATCUPRA.NET

283 @ the WHEELS and nearly 400 lbft (with NOS) and your just managing to terminal 102 mph lmfao.

It is a proven fact that a front mount intercooler on an impreza, improves the top end dramatically.
Was the WR1 standard? if you are comparing a modified car to a standard one then the WR1 did quite well.

Well for a standard Impreza with a tmic, that is a good vmax. With slight mods it would annihilate the Ibiza and some of the more exotic machinery on the list!

I'll mention anything i fancy, it was just a case of pointing out that using comments like different leagues is a load of bollocks. The wr1 was the only scoob there on the day to compare to.

The reason rr posted this is due to him having a ihi turbo'ed ibiza with about 340bhp, which is relatively quick in a straight line.
So he is defending Seat's.

Who said anything about the Ibiza being in a different league though, he might think it's right up there, or indeed might think it's a league above, who knows, you know why.......COZ HE NEVER FECKING MENTIONED IT!!!!!

I dont need your permission to view and post. As for scoobs there ****e, if your going to do the 4wd rally slag at least go buy a proper car like an Evo.

As for different leagues, all cars have the ability to span many speed tables, look at the likes of Andy F's car. Still just a scoob though.
