As for different leagues, all cars have the ability to span many speed tables, look at the likes of Andy F's car. Still just a scoob though.

Aerodynamics and gearing probably had more effect than the so called "myth" of 4WD tranny losses - its all garbage.

When are the toy throwing brigade going to get real and accept the fact that tuning the guts out of a fwd car and adding nitrous is basically an utter waste of time... and they still arent that fast.

Exactly. What the hell is the point of a car that cant get traction until about 3rd gear? Is only fast on a runway of about 2 miles by the time u hit about 130mph. Its utterly useless! (and handles like a matchbox on square wheels).

I think you'll find its good for just about everything. Plus it doesnt need Nitrous, chips and god knows what else to do it. Plus it can put the power down and stop well. I wouldnt even waste my time blowing a little hatch away as tempting as that might be.

Id like to know how many of the hot hatch brigade have actually driven a 4wd car before they start banging on about trans losses this and that.
Sit in an Evo indicating 175mph as std and then tell me about it.

The Evo 8 MR onwards is a nice car to modify though, >400 BHP and 400 lbft with exhaust, induction, remap and fuel pump for £1500, a DIY FQ400 if you will, but with more torque, far less lag and a wider power band. Works out similar power to weight to an IHI Ibiza but with a chassis and gearbox that can take it and exploit it. If there was a car to move onto this might be it RR?

I think its the IX that can make 400/400 on £1500 worth of mods but i may have read it wrong. When you look at Wrc's site 380-400bhp is coming in around the 3k mark on the 8mr's.

The IX does, but the VIII MR also has pretty good cams and a good turbo which will also get to pretty much 400/400, the IX GTs are surpassing this but the Mg compressor wheels are exploding. WRC fit a new FMIC, BOV, GEMS, Unichip and 3.5" exhaust. I think Evo 400 and Sam leave the stock FMIC, BOV, remap the OEM ECU using Ecutek, and recommend a 3" exhaust for this power level, hence why it is half the cost. They also recommend a different induction setup that they think is better and doesn't need the water reservoir relocated.

I cant imagine many people aspiring to own... a 15K spanish hatch. What amazes me is that the motoring press have largely ignored this FWD wonder of technology what cant even crack 155 is std trim and cant handle the power it already has without wheelspin antics.
I would suggest you save your pennies and move onto a real car and put the hatches behind you. Btw theres nothing more chavvy than a hot hatch. Chavs cant afford the Evo, let alone run them.
Anyone can make a car go fast in a straight line, Evos have cracked 200mph. Which Leons or Ibizas have managed this? From your post you only managed about 160 which is hardly impressive for a car you are claiming is all conquering. Id fancy my evo to manage this in std trim, btw GPS is known not to be 100% accurate in these situations. I'd be interested to know the breakdowns of times though, to see how this compares to the MLR's 30-130 challenge which you may have heard about.

In standard trim 160mph on clocks can be achieved and with a £500 remap a little more. My top speed run was showing 161mph GPS, and that was the whole point of the initial thread along with the fact of settling a long argument! If the clocks read far enough i have no doubt it would have been reading between 170-175mph hence my 161 GPS.
Now yes i have heard of the 30-130 challenge and some of the times coming from evos are unbelievable and very well deserved. I think norris designs evo running it in something silly like 7secs! However this car has 700+bhp and is very highly modified! Im sure the 300-450hp evos were running between 14-17secs which is definitely not out of reach for the likes of my car and definitely not out of reach of (RR's) ibiza.

not 300-450, but 300. So what do you estimate your 30-130 to be?

Evos 1-5 are cheap enough for ''chavs'' if you like, but are rare cars and harder to get hold of! The 6 can now be sought for £9-10k with the 7 a little more at around £12k. 8 can be had for £15k
Kind of puts it into perspective that if us hot hatch brigade wanted these cars, we'd have them.

Serial 23...Evo FQ400 timed at 17.97secs
Serial 34....Evo Fq 330 timed at 21.4secs
Serial 44....Evo 8 with 350 @ fly timed at 26.6
I would say these times are certainly within grasp of our 2 little spanish ****boxes
After viewing some of my own personal vids of my speedo, im timing 30-130 in around 18-19secs. Looking at serial 23 which seems to be a standard FQ400 his time is 18secs
RR's car is quicker than mine too, i'd love to see what his little spanish ****box would do

i would say 145 on your speedo is around 130 true mph. Id like to see one of the vids, can you get them hosted. I would also point out no.29 "radar" who in a std evo viii fq300 managed under 20 secs. Obviously some people rag their cars harder than others and are more brutal with the changes.

GPS matched up with timing equipment at santapod so its fairly reliable. I have no idea how it compares with the timing equipment used for your 30-130 tests but it cant be that far off!
I'll see if i can get 1 of my vids up to show you a 30-130 in sub 20secs

Mitchy id love to see the videos. Ive never heard of car speedos being accurate above 150 so you must be in a very small percentage. GPS units like road angels etc are known to be not accurate which is whys magazines etc dont use them, but use all kinds of equipment costing much more. The faster you go the less accurate the speedo becomes. From an Evo point of view and every other car ive ever had youre looking at least 10 percent out above 130.
