Not 100% sure, but Id expect service and cambelt around £250-£300 at a local independant, or double it at the dealers.. I know the cambelt kit is about £70 though, and a standard service about £100..

Prob best to ring round...

Good choice on the black 3 dr

the GT TDI 150 will either have a GTI badge with a red i or an all red TDI badge, it'll also have this on the engine cover, to be honest though theres not much difference in the 130 and 150 models, i had mine mapped recently which is a 130 and its actually quicker than my mates mapped 150!!

I've got a 150 as the sensible family car and it's great, no real difference to the 130 TBH, just the stronger internals as mentioned earlier.
Careful when mapping, it will give you a huge amount of torque all going through the front wheels. Just wait until it rains....

All red TDI badges were for the Bora, should never have been fitted to the Golfs by VW.. As said should be GTi (with a red I) but badges were often fitted by UK dealers so you never can be sure.. Some people do fit all red TDI badges though (I did)..

As for a mapped PD130 being quicker than a PD150, the remap does make them nearer.. But either your mate has problems (i.e. faulty Maf sensor) or your a better driver.. The power delivery between the 2 is very different, the PD130 has more grunt low down, while the PD150 revs much more freely at the top.

The differences between the 2 are on page 1, and IMO the Climate Control, 16" Montreal's, uprated suspension, and FMIC make it wee worth it, particularly the suspension as the PD130 handles like a barge

Both good cars though..

Just got an insurance quote for the new car....

When I put the reg number in it comes up as a TDi 130 (incorrectly), however the premium was £450 F.C.

When I manually adjust the make/model to TDi 150, the quote goes up to £557 F.C.??? WTF?

24% dearer for a car that is virtually identical in terms of performance?

Is it just me that hates insurance companies?

hi just a quick one if you put a resistor in the fuel temp sensor you will get an increase in performance and a fuel saving.the 130 go to a 150 and the 150 will go to 170 ish i will find out what resistor is required later tonight watch this space.

i had the same problems when i bought my GT TDI 130 that when i checked the insurance it was coming up as a GT TDI 115 but it obviously wasn't!! even had it come up as a 150 with one company!!

my 130 though has got most of the stuff 150's came with, 3 rear headrests, climate control, its got the optional sports suspension too and i've fitted the 16" montreal wheels, hasn't got the wood inside but i don't like that anyway and if i ever fancied that it could be fitted for next to nothing,

as to badges my mate bought his GT TDI 150 brand new and his came with the all red TDI badge, and his car runs great with no problems and the tests we've done are on straight roads so being a better driver doesn't come into it when comparing them.

Yes the wood wasnt very pretty the only benefit is it makes the change to the R32 trim very easy, as with the PD130 you need to change the whole radio cage... But if it was being left alone I prefer the black PD130 trim..

The all red tdi badges on your mates is just down to the dealers doing what they want, I "think" they came from Germany just with golf badges, but as said earlier thats why its best to check the boot sticker.. As for example with the extras you have on yours, it would be very difficult to tell apart from the PD150..

Cant explain your PD130 being quicker than your mates PD150 though... do you both have the same remap?? There should be around 20hp between them from most of the tuners figures, but this is often down to 10-15 on some rolling road days (sometimes theres more than 20hp difference though)..

If they are the same remap, be interesting for you to swap cars, maybe your just a bit better at the changes, saying that I guess 10-20hp isnt much difference out on the road in a 1300kg car...

As said before, both great cars... Fitted Sat-Nav and the Recaros to mine recently, couple of worthwhile mods!

I checked the Autodata book today and the cambelt on GTTDI's takes 2.9 hours.
Labour - 4 hours, rate dependent on dealer therefore £120 - £200
Timing belt and tensioner - £60
Water pump - £65

So surely the remaining service items (oil, filter, plugs, fuel filter etc etc) don't come to over £300 on average

How the hell are folk getting charged £600+ for this service?

no they haven't been mapped by the same person, his 150 was mapped by jabbasport and my 130 was mapped by a independent mapper whos based in Cardiff, a top guy that really knows his stuff, like i've already said my 130 put out 134bhp before it was mapped yet 197bhp after the mapping, both runs were done on an independent rolling road where i take my rally car so i know the figures are right, my mates was meant to be 202bhp at jabbasports but theres no way it can be cos it can't live with my 130 now and i've driven his and it feels slower than mine.

Morning.... that explains it, your 63hp increase is particularly good, in fact about the highest ive ever seen.. also Jabbas rollers are usually a tad optimistic to say the least, with PD150s regularly coming of with up to a claimed 220hp, so his isnt really achiving what its whould for whatever reason... Having said that I would doubt my Revo'd PD150 would be any more than 197hp (they claim 190)..

Top stuff.. whats the name of this tuner again

his name is Jamie and he's a top guy, can remap loads of cars or take the limiters off bmw's and mercs etc so they do more than 155mph, spoke to him earlier and he doesn't want his number put on here but would be happy to discuss anything if someone wants him to do some work, pm me if anyones interested but like i said he's based in Cardiff though.

Default Collected the GT TDI 150 today

Picked up the 150 today, and all I can say is what a car!

The pick-up is unlike anything I had imagined, it is so petrol like, with a huge shove in the back from 1500rpm.

It also seems to rev forever, well as far as diesels are concerned! The power delivery is constant and I haven't stopped grinning since I collected it.

Coupled with the fact that the fuel computer has read 49-50 mpg all of the way home, and 35 mpg at worst, and even that was while I was "testing" the power!

Why have I spent the last 7 years owning 6 different Imprezas when there are cars like the Golf around?

glad you like it mate, i've had my Golf since august and after owning an Impreza i thought i wouldn't be happy with any other car but the GT TDI has proved me wrong!! fantastic cars that perform well yet give great fuel economy, i won't be changing my Golf for a long while

Afer weeks of searching, I now have a deposit down on a TDI 150

Previous owner changed the cambelt, water pump and associated items, bang on 60k!! It's also had the climate fans fixed and the turbo has been replaced under warranty with all work by VW!

It's a Euro import, but a bargain price of £8.5k

Been a nightmare to get to here, because during the hunt, I've found:
1 - potentially clocked car with no history
2 - 130bhp cars advertised as 150bhp
1 - garage who over the phone said they had one, only to turn up and they only have 130s
1 - Bargain 150 bhp Leon, which was still advertised two weeks after it was sold
2 - VW dealers not returning calls
1 - VW dealer who had one in the prep centre, but would not be available for another fortnight!!
5 - 150's located in the NE & NW of England, where a 600 mile round trip to view put me off.
3 - Potential cars on ebay, but the fact they were on ebay put me off
4 - 150's that sold from Car Giant, before I could get to view!
3 - Over priced Leons at dealers for more than the special offer they currently have on

Bascially I've been scouring the net since before Christmas, and the car I finally buy is from someone I know!

Good arnet they! Pleased you both got sorted finally, they do take some finding..

And when you do get used to it and feel the need for more power, a remap is like having a new car!

Picked up my Bora PD130 sport today. Must say I'm very impressed. Only done 47K, full VW stamps in the service book, climate, 6-speed, 6 CD in-dash changer. Needed the boot for the pushchair as the sprog will be here soon. What a size boot though it is!!!!! I cant believe how well it revs for a diesel. Much better than the Pug 2.0 HDi.

Proby.

nice pics Andy, never seen one in that colour before, what do you think of the wheels and how it drives? i had the same wheels on mine for a few days but 19's and it killed the performance so i took them off and put 16" montreals off a GT TDI 150 on mine with made it drive loads better, how come theres a silver T and red DI on the back? that badge shouldn't be on a GT TDI 150

The car is a Euro import, which is why the badging throw me initially, but all the other checks (front splitter, wood trim, correct information on the sticker in the wheel well and red TDI on the engine cover) shows it's a 150. I'm considering taking off the 'Golf' and 'GT TDI' badges, or changing it to say 'GTI' (with a red I), removing the TD bit.

The 18" wheels were on the car when I bought it, but having driven other 150's, I can say that in most situations the handling is as good, and better when pushed hard.

i found the bigger wheels killed the acceleration when i had the 19's on mine and hated how it made the car drive which is why i sold them 2 days later and switched to the 16's, i actually found my car to handle better with the 16's than it did with the 19's even though the 19's run 235/35 tyres and the 16's are on 205/55's

There's a little tramlining, but no worse than running 17" wheels on a classic Impreza.

Maybe the 19" wheels are a step too far! 18" wheels running 225/40/18 tyres may kill some of the acceleration due to extra weight on the car. I guess the best compromise are 17" wheels, which I may switch to if the ride is too harsh when/if I lower the car.
