New Years Day is on a Sunday, meaning Monday the 2nd is a Bank Holiday where not too many people will be working. The forecast is for the temperature rising to a heady 4-6ºc and rain showers. Does this sound agreeable
I don't think I'll brave it today, way too icy to have any fun. 2nd Jan will also be a no-go. Ho hum bring on spring.

Right, just got back from a fantastic 182 mile trek around the Dales with Mick and Chris.

Met at M62 J30 at 11 am and set off at a steady pace through the middle of Leeds and out towards Otley and Ilkley, again, at a steady pace due to the high volume and low velocity of the traffic. Once through Ilkley however, traffic volumes cleared and we turned our attention to getting over to Aysgarth. This we did, after a short stop at a very busy pub in Appletreewick for a quick Shandy.

The pace was again steady, and the NSL was adhered to at all times, due to either slow traffic or the road conditions, which although they were nowhere near as bad as we were expecting, still required respect and a lot of concentration. Various short stops were made to change the running order and give both myself and Mick a nice view of the fireworks coming from Chris' back box

A short photographic stop in Aysgarth, and we were soon on our way down the very nice sweeping road to Hawes. Qick check of the map, and off we headed to tackle the infamous Buttertubs Pass.

I've wanted to drive this road ever since I've had a licence, and it did not disappoint. Again, a steady, law abiding pace was claaed for due to the surface conditions, but with the rises and dips in the roads surface, coupled with the stunning views and MASSIVE drops on either side, no-one was in any kind of a hurry.

From the North side of Buttertubs we had a fantastic blast on a rollercoaster of a road, led for a good part by a farmer in a LandRover displaying all his local knowledge

A quick stop in Richmond for screen wash led us onto the A1 Southbound, back to Cas, and a well deserved meal at the TP.

Top Day. Thanks to Mick and Chris.

More pics to follow, for now you'll have to make do with this quickly stitched panorama from Buttertubs Pass.

Look and weep

first things first!

Thanks Andy and Chris what a fantastic day would of never found myself about without your knowledge and map skill Andy

What a superb day out, the driving was enthusiastic but sensible given the conditions, never the less still smiling like a cheshire cat.

The scenery was really amazing a few pit stops to soak it in and snap a few shots, Still cant recall all the names but once again nice job Andy'

It really was cold up on the top but both me and sticky took it in turns getting warm behind Chris's motor

here's a few pics that i have just knocked together

Dunno what's worse, waiting 12 months to get me license back or waiting 18 months to get me hands on a TEN!

...and I think it's about time you made it out on a run, rather than turning up late and leaving early.

See you Monday
