I'm open minded too and seeing everyone feel sorry for him, someone had to point out, that there COULD be more to it!
Yep, skids, indicate that the ABS was not working! He would have to be going at 90degrees to the tree, but the width of the tyre marks don't tell you that. They are as wide as the car.

maybe the skid marks were off one of the other racers, i mean drivers
how does a car skid slightly towards a tuft of grass and then end up on its roof???
i wish i had of finished the A level physics course now and not bottled out at an AS level, must have completely missed out the section on car crashes

all you have to do is either release the brake or leave the road?
there is another option but it onvolves a ramp

FFS - Those skidmarks are 20ft ish long
It's a **** road - if your car can stop in that short space then you must have a car that has more grip and stopping power than a formula one!
You know nothing about the incident, I cant be bothored giving you all the facts and I would be wasting my time as you would just talk more ****.
If your not going to say any of the usuall stuff like thank god you are ok then just dont bother. Which is what im going to do now.

I am not trying to annoy anyone, but I just find it odd that there are any skid marks on a car I thought had ABS.
I hope the driver is OK and gets all his money back.
I once had someone pull out in front of me, and they measured the skid marks and made out I was speeding - result:
Each had to claim off there own insurance.....for someone pulling out in front of me!

Whoa, looked at this the other day but didnt want to comment but after all the bitching I thought I might as well, bad luck on smashing your car up, thats a real bummer.
It is bad form to offer an opinion on something you werent present at but this thread does have a few key phrases and photos that stand out as pointing to excessive speed and driver error as the cause, theres no shame in it, you live and learn, have got it wrong myself on a few occasions, dont get all upset, we all make mistakes, if I am completely wrong I apologise but I am under the impression that the Impreza by and large doent turn turtle at the slightest provocation, it being a well balanced and fine handling car.
Basically my thoughts are based around the phrases,
'We had just overtaken a couple of cars who were doing 40'
'I was on my own, thankfully'
'Sidhead was behind, so may be able to explain'
'I was doing about 70'
All it says to me is, a few lads out for a blast (in separate motors) on a cold, damp day, overtakes, gets it wrong, runs out of grip/talent, interfaces with the scenery and puts it on its roof, thankfully survives to post about it on a public BBS, thus by default inviting opinions as to why/how it happened. I mean people arent going to come on here and say that they expect it was due to you going too slow and being over cautious ?
Glad you are ok and that Impreza's are strong enough !

This guy has trashed his pride and joy - what, so he should be cut a break because hes lost his car? My heart bleeds. Be thankful that he didn't kill anyone, if he wants sympathy, wrong place - I've seen too many peoiple die from accidents like this that are 'no ones fault, honest gov, I was only doing 30'.
Let the insults begin.

Ok, time for my analysis:
Looking at that photo I can discern......
Hang on, somethings not right here...
Something disturbing....
And very suspicious...
This is perhaps the worst thing I've seen on Scoobynet, since I joined...
Good lord, how irresponsible.....
It's awful,
It's unforgiveable...
It's.........
AN ESCORT WITH A WR1 PAINT JOB!!!!!!

Right then lads....this is Si's girlfriend, Soph.
Now, I wasn't there. Normally I'd be straight on with the rest of the crash analysts that have been saying he was speeding, driving like a prat etc, however, on this occasion, 'the lads' have informed me, and yes i believe them, that he wasn't driving like an idiot. He can't remember so not much point asking him. Also, 'the lads' generally don't drive like a bunch of idiots either (track days being the exception!!! lol), they just went for something to eat together and were driving back together.
All I can finally say is that, from looking at the car, I'm just bloody glad he's in one piece and I still have him here with me. It's not a phone call I ever want again in my life. He's not an idiot, and was still in shock when he posted. Something to keep him awake from the concussion no doubt.
Irrespective of how it happened, he is ok and no one else was hurt. Season greetings to all. Hope no-one else has to find out how this can so easily happen. xx

everybody is relieved and happy that Si is Ok and has walked away from his accident in one piece. I don't think anyone is accusing him of driving like a prat, and I, nor anyone else, has reason to believe that speed had any part in the accident.
We can look at the photos and make guestimates about what happened. Some people may bury their heads in the sand and pretend that a bit of diesel or ice made it happen, but at the end of the day we can only make assumptions, and look at the evidence as its seen in the photos.
I hope Si bounces back from this, from the photos, it looks likehes been given a second chance at living

I'm not going to pass any judgement, just glad there's no serious injuries.
I once rolled a Mondeo (no great loss) on a duel carraigeway, rolling 3 times through a fence and into a field next to Theale bypass in Reading. It isn't nice flipping a car and it does leave you unsure what happened and how fast/slow you were going, who was at fault or why you left the road.
It's just a relief that you can still move all your limbs and can walk to the ambulance, (assuming you had one).
Good to see the airbags went off (1 point to Subaru, 0 points to Ford, as mine didn't ).
I hope the insurance company pays out and you get yourself back behind a Momo asap.

Firstly i'd like say how glad I am that si is ok and that no one was seriously hurt, thats the main thing.
However, I do think that when people have accidents of this nature, the best thing to do is to look back at it calmly and with the aim of learning from such an experience. Someone could have been killed, namely, you!
You can blame it on the road conditions, tyres, colour of the shirt that you were wearing....... but the only grown up thing to do is to own up to making a mistake in your judgement. You were going too fast for conditions (inc car, road etc). End of story.
A car does not loose control standing still, does it? Would you have lost control at 20mph/30mph/40mph? Only you will know the answer to that, and hopefully apply this knowledge in future driving.
Again, I'm not having a go, i'm just saying what I would have done.
I make mistakes on the road (coming from a driving instructor with a scooby and a racing license!), we all do. The worst thing that any driver can do is to think that their driving is perfect, or even good. Thats when one gets complacent, and basically, lazy. We will never stop learning, thats what is so great about the human mind.
Every time we get into the car, we should aim to be just that tiny bit better than we were before!
Hope you get things sorted soon and return to the world of Impreza's. (all be it with a bit more knowledge than before!)
