The classic is dead!

funny, I see more chaved up bugeyes and blobeyes around my way than anything else. The classics seem to be kept fairly low key in comparison.

Makes me laugh everytime i read threads like these, the classic shape will always be a"classic" no matter how people mod them probably due to subarus success in rallying at that time-how many limited edition subarus do you get these days with reference to wrc? in 95 series mcrae/96 catalunya/97 terzo/99 RB5 and who wouldnt want to own a 22B granted wide bodied but still classic shape, there were just so many good classic shape scoobys out during this period,p1,wrx sti type-r the classic shape isnt dead its legendary!!!!! anyway rant over lol a few pics of how classics are lookin in the midlands (mine and a mates) and these arent isolated cases theres hundreds of mint classics around still, yer theres a few chav ones tho i can count on one hand the number ive seen, but who cares it just makes other peoples look all the better.

I must admit that I've never seen these mythical chavs driving classics . A true chav wouldn't ever be able to afford one, run one and then modify them.
I have seen a few classics with mods that I dont particularly like, but hey if they like it then fair enough.
It is very dissapointing to read threads like this though, where someone can be labelled a chav because they have differing tastes in car modifications
ps. Classics will always be the better looking

I own a MY98 classic in Reddish Blue, the only mods she has is a prodrive rear wing, 4 pots on the front, and an uprated air fliter, she is in perfect condition and has only covered 52,000 miles

Ive only had my classic for not even a week yet...but I can confidently say I think its the nicest looking model!
Maybe its different on the mainland from ourselves in N.Ireland here but its most definately not a chav car! I can honestly say its not everyday you would even see a Scooby driving down the road either!

I've narrowed the criteria down with crap looking scoobs if they have the following:
Any scoob with tailpipe bore diameter bigger than 3" is most certainly TACKY, and TASTLESS. The owner might not be a chav, but he certainly has the tastes of a chav or a 15yr old teenager (especially if the rest of the system is stock diameter).
Rally Stickers, if it aint a rally car. Or has the mechanics/cage to match. Then why make it look like somthing it clearly isn't? Again Taste and tack..verging on chavs with money
Huge spoilers and splitters. They never do anything for aerodynamics, purely looks, like having a huge fallice stuck on your head. Sure go and stick a huge Sti v(whatever) spolier on, but it looked crap from new on the car it was supposed to go on, so why on earth put it on a stock scoob and make it look worse? Again issues with Taste here.
Also filling the interiors with tons of gauges, monitors, shift lights, bleepers etc is certainly the dream of an IT geek.
It's all along the lines of the fluffy dice, leopard skin seat cover, slatted rear window blinds and those red number plates saying in Italic "TURBO "we all had 20 years back. You do it to make your car look "different", but everyone with the same bad taste as you does the same thing. So we have an epidemic of cars that just look plain tacky.
ALL IMO, its your car...so go and f**k it up if you want (I'll still be here laughing and cringing )

The majority of classics around this area have been totally ruined, I was thinking of buying a nice STI or similar next year, after being overun with trash Subarus around here im not going to bother.
More pics of standard models please, my faith is at rock bottom

Ali-B, having a big exhaust on a Scoob is not Chav, I agree a 5" on a corsa is, this is part of Jap car culture, maybe you should start looking around on the net or have a good look at some of the Jap car mags.
As for stickers/graphics, whats wrong with making the Scoob a rally replica if you want if you are a rally fan etc.. Also how can a roll cage be in bad taste? it is really one of the safest mods you can do and is there for a reason.
Gauges, when people start hiking up the power it's a good idea to keep an eye on the engine, I dont know why Subaru didn't fit an extra couple of gauges as standard and as for shift lights, well my STI has one in as standard so I guess the designer's must be a bunch of chavs.
Why are you bothered about spoilers etc..the idea was for the Scoob to look like the rally car hence why they were put on, if you dont want one on yours fair enough, but you are probably in the minority now days.
Why oh why are people always having a go at others on here for moding their car, I dont have a go at someone for leaving their car standard?
I think the main prob is that a few years ago the only people that could afford to run Scoobs was blokes in their 40's who used to laugh at me in my XR2 and now that the likes of me can afford to have a nice Scoob you dont like it, you dont like the fact that you are no longer in a motoring elite.

Do you see others start threds "why do old duffers keep their Scoobs standard?" No you dont so it would be nice to come on this forum and not see some one moaning about a stickered up scoob with a Dump valve.

Mines not standard although is only 3 miles up the road from you so youv'e probably seen it.
I know what you mean though there alot more sheds knocking around locally but then again theres some very clean cars to both modified and standard.
Just so you can wave next time you see it

Thanks for the comments guy's...
I am toy-ing with the idea of having the three rear windows tinted, but am still un-decided.
I had my RA on E-bay some weeks back, it fetched a massive £3.300. What a joke, with the condition of the car & it's pedigree because of work's carried out, it ain't going nowhere until these car's start to command the high prices that a pure Classic thuroughbred should be worth, and if I have to keep it for 20 yrs then that's what i'll do.
In the mean time, it's continual investment in un-noticed mod's, except for the big brakes which are soon to be fitted.
Investment so far in 2 yrs - in excess of 8k, for me it suits...
So far I am happy with the look, which is what I had set out to achieve, I cannot be arsed with that bling look.

So how many guys do you see with near stock scoobs do you see boasting about their array of Defis and Secs (not to forget the Ps Lewis patent cocklink ) on car pushing 250bhp at best. And the Sti shiftlight is a gimmick...you shouldn't even need to look at the guages to judge on gearchanges, you can feel the car's optimum powerband by the seat of your ****.
Why are you bothered about spoilers etc..the idea was for the Scoob to look like the rally car hence why they were put on, if you dont want one on yours fair enough, but you are probably in the minority now days.
I think I need to correct you and give you a history lesson that the original Turbo Subaru's (both legacy and Impreza...back in the years of 1990 to 1996) forte was SUBTLETY!!!. Subaru were very big on the rally scene, but nobody took notice until a Scotsman came along In other words, before the rally success and media spouting, nobody knew what it was, it blended into the background, but looked just a little differnt to stand out, but on the whole would go unnoticed...until lined agianst a 911 at a set of traffic lights.
Now everyone knows what it is, and just to make a further point, they feel the need to bolt on whatever bit they can find out of a catalogue to make it stick out even more
Why oh why are people always having a go at others on here for moding their car, I dont have a go at someone for leaving their car standard?

Just call us the common sense brigade reminding people that their attempts to be different just show how little imagination they have when it comes to stylistic "modding" - simply by making their car look like something they've seen out of Jap tuner's mag...just like everyone else trying to be "different" without imagination.
Somebody had better tell this fellow how old I am
