Rally Stickers, if it aint a rally car. Or has the mechanics/cage to match. Then why make it look like somthing it clearly isn't? Again Taste and tack..verging on chavs with money
Huge spoilers and splitters. They never do anything for aerodynamics, purely looks, like having a huge fallice stuck on your head. Sure go and stick a huge Sti v(whatever) spolier on, but it looked crap from new on the car it was supposed to go on, so why on earth put it on a stock scoob and make it look worse? Again issues with Taste here.
Also filling the interiors with tons of gauges, monitors, shift lights, bleepers etc is certainly the dream of an IT geek.
It's all along the lines of the fluffy dice, leopard skin seat cover, slatted rear window blinds and those red number plates saying in Italic "TURBO "we all had 20 years back. You do it to make your car look "different", but everyone with the same bad taste as you does the same thing. So we have an epidemic of cars that just look plain tacky.
ALL IMO, its your car...so go and f**k it up if you want (I'll still be here laughing and cringing )

20 years back you all did the same? that makes you a hypocrite!!! At least nowadays anyone wishing to mod their car, has many, many more choices. As a result you won't find many modded cars that are identical, that is the idea of it i think! Personnaly I cringe at what you used to do, but I'm only telling you that as I feel slightly offended by your post!
I say anyone as my dad is 59 (more old age hippy than anything else!), and he loves my car (red rally replica MY93 import), and plans to do his own mods to his skyline gtst. As someone has already said, the large bore exhaust is a japanese culture thing, I don't think small bore exhausts look right on a japanese performance car!
Everyone has their own tastes, so lets not knock those who don't match our own!

20 years back I was 6 years old
But I remember the ****box Cortinas driving around with said mods and thinking it was bad taste back then
I'll admit to putting a K&N sticker on my XR3 and a 2" exhaust system (including the janspeed manifold, no fancy backbox...did a propper job and went the whole hog), oh and few magic trees. But I grew up and took the sticker off though.
As I said, it's not down to me what anyone should do with their car, if they think it looks good, well good for them. Just don't expect me to keep a straight face

I'm 27 so we are from the same generation. I had an XR2 aswell! Didn't mod mine though because I've always been in to japanese cars, and waited until I could afford one!
Me and the missus had kids fairly early, the XR2 only cost 200 notes off a good mate and got me out off a hole at the time. I did enjoy how easy it was to work on though!!
I brought I pajero lwb 2.5 diesel when I had the money, served very well for all the car seats/pushchairs etc.The kids are older now and I can actually afford a performance car, so I managed to swap my old 4x4 for the Impreza.
Already had the rally stickers on, I originally intended on removing them but they grew on me. The car also has an aftermarket dv, and the good old K&N induction kit. The engine has also been upgraded suffiently to carry its rally stickers, no cage though and I don't mind as I really don't aim to go rolling off the road!
Never had anything like this before so I am really enjoying all the noises etc. Being a bit of a performance man though I am considering revamping the vta scenario but thats just part of my own plan to put my own stamp upon it!
Just to back up the jist of the original thread:
THE CLASSIC WILL NEVER DIE!!
It is already a legend.

Fact - Classics are getting old now, some are 12 years old.
Fact - Rust is forming on some of them.
Fact - Neds and chavs do drive them sometimes
They are going the same way as the RS Turbos. Notwithstanding, they are both great cars (I have owned both.) It makes me sad to see chavs driving these cars as they are great cars - I loved my classic and still think it is the best looking version, especially from the back. I saw a respectable bloke in a suit driving a minted P1 the other day and hate to say it but I think it looked a little 'chavish.' I hate to have said it. I cannot help cringing that my MY04 STI with TSL 333 will also be a chavish looking car in years to come and that dissapoints me - let's face it - we are all f&cked - we will all be classed as chavs. sorry in advance if I have offended anyone. All the berries in 2006!!

Why do you/we link Chav's with cars such as the Impreza, when to be quite honest many car's driven today are driven by some form of labelled driver.
I owned an absolute stonking example of a rally prepaired MK1 Escort, it looked & went the biz, I had now label. If i could own & drive one similar today I would with pride.
For me the Subaru Impreza classic is like owning yet another pure classic motor 'with attitude' just like the MK1 escort.
'Chav' this word is used to often now & is getting a little out of date

The classic is still alive
Recentley looking in the Auto-Trader and i noticed that the price of decent unmolested classics are holding there value but tainted poorly looked after classics are dirt cheap to buy. But as has been pointed out before on this thread look at the Sierra cosworths a few years back you could pick a battered one up for 2K, look at the prices now for unmolested examples. This will happen with the classic, i've had mine for 2 years and all i've done is put clear indicators on and a no to loud but not too quiet back box. I still have a grin when i drive and don't know what i could replace it with except for another classic.

FFS stop using the pics in the quotes...3 times is enough (i.e remove the [IMG ] tags )
Well that makes perfect sense...it makes you money and makes a good business image. Like signwriting your company vans etc.
I never grasped this obsession with the daft tailpipes - especially the ones that don't even fit properly (as per that otherwise lovely 22b ). I'm a believer of function before form - everything should have a legitimate purpose, not just conform to whatever is the going trend in Bansai magazine.

I haven't read through this thread, but from what I've heard...... New age bug eyes are both unloved and falling quicker than ANY subaru risiduals. There's hope for the classic once the chavy little fella's have finished (probally take them about 2 weeks to sticker them up, morronette them, then kill them)
